YOUR HOPE WILL NOT BE CUT OFF “My son, eat honey because it’s good and the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste, so shall knowledge and wisdom be to your soul if you have found it. There is a prospect and your hope will not be cut off.” Proverbs 24:13-14

aybe you started this book thinking, well I guess I should learn what Solomon has to tell me. It will probably be good for me. Perhaps your attitude was sort of like a kid who decides to eat the dreaded vegetables because he regretfully realizes it will pay off. But, by now, you are probably enjoying it. Wisdom has that effect. Solomon is saying here that once your soul gets wisdom it will love it. Your soul will want it. It will be like honey or today we would say candy. Solomon adds that the sweet cherry on the top of what wisdom will bring you is, “the hope that will not be cut off.” He used this term once before during these thirty sayings. One chapter earlier in Proverbs, Solomon also talked of being eternally minded (Proverbs 23:18). Solomon reminds us that wisdom brings sweet reward to your soul and life, and none is sweeter than eternal 161
