Hay viajes en la vida que no imaginás hacer jamás. Viajes por tiempo indefinido, que te llevan a un lugar con todas o casi todas tus pertenencias, con todo lo que sos. Viajes en nombre del amor. Cuando alguien de tu familia está lejos y te necesita, la rutina que teníamos tan aprendida cambia. Todo cambia. Las prioridades cambian. La vida se vuelve algo frágil, y el disfrutar cada instante con los seres que amamos y que nos dieron todo se convierte en algo tan gratificante y necesario que llena el alma. No obstante, para una mujer que siempre fue independiente y viajera como yo, pasar de vivir en una ciudad a vivir en un pequeño pueblo fue y es un trabajo de adaptación diario. No hay día que no recuerde las calles de Buenos Aires, su olor a café y pan recién horneado, la gente cantando en los subtes y esos rincones que guardo muy profundo en mi corazón. Sólo puedo decir que a fuerza de nostalgia encontré mi lugar en el mundo, mi Buenos Aires querido, más mío aún desde el día en que partí. Y como dice el tango, cuando yo te vuelva a ver no habrá más penas ni olvidos…
There are trips in life that you do not even expect to make. Trips for indefinite periods that take you to a place with all or almost all your belongings. Trips in the name of love. When somebody in the family is far away and needs you, the routine we used to have suddenly changes. Everything changes. The priorities change. Life becomes a bit fragile, and enjoying every instant with the people we love and gave us all becomes something rewarding and necessary that fills the soul. Yet, for a woman that has always been independent and such a traveler like me, stop living in a city to start living in a small town was and is a daily adaptation. I do remember the streets of Buenos Aires, its smell of coffee and just baked bread, the people singing in the subways and those corners that I keep deep down in my heart. I can just say that I nostalgically found my place in the world, my beloved Buenos Aires, which is even more mine since the day I left. El alba acaricia sus monumentos emblemáticos: el Obelisco, la Pirámide de Mayo, el Cabildo, el Planetario Galileo Galilei, el Puente de la Mujer. La ciudad de Buenos Aires se despierta temprano, aunque muchos dicen que nunca duerme. Su fama está precedida por las carteleras de espectáculos repletas de funciones en los teatros de la Calle Corrientes, por los iluminados bares y restó de Puerto Madero y Costanera, por las tanguerías con orquestas y bailarines en los barrios de San Telmo y Boedo. En Avenida de Mayo el aroma a café nos hace detener el paso. La mañana arranca con un desayuno con churros calentitos y medialunas en uno de los más tradicionales bares notables, aquellos que utilizaban como punto de encuentro para sus tertulias destacadas personalidades del mundo de la literatura, música y política. El café Tortoni, inaugurado en 1858, reunió a célebres escritores como Alfonsina Storni, Federico García Lorca y Jorge Luis Borges; artistas como Benito Quinquela Martín y Xul Solar; y destacadas figuras como Juan Manuel Fangio y Carlos Gardel, muchos de ellos retratados en fotografías que decoran el lugar e incluso en estatuas en tamaño real ubicadas en una mesa cercana a la nuestra, recreando un encuentro como los de aquellas épocas. Conforme avanza la mañana, somos testigos del ir y venir citadino, agitado, cautivante: las bocinas de los coches, el paso apurado de los oficinistas y el canillita enunciando los principales títulos de los diarios nacionales componen una postal que se repite cada día.

En el entorno de este pulmón verde, el más antiguo de la provincia, se ubican notables edificios como el Cabildo, sede de la administración colonial creado poco después de la fundación de la ciudad en el siglo XVI; la Catedral Metropolitana, principal sede de la Iglesia Católica en Argentina; la Casa de Gobierno, conocida como la Casa Rosada, el Ministerio de Economía, la casa matriz del Banco Nación, y el Palacio del Gobierno, sede del poder ejecutivo nacional. A 300 metros de la plaza, un desfile de transeúntes y una vía peatonal en la que tienen lugar puestos de flores, de revistas y lustrabotas despierta curiosidad. Es la Calle Florida, renombrada por concentrar una variedad de tiendas, con pintorescas edificaciones y el centro comercial Galerías Pacífico, construido a fines del siglo XIX y declarado Monumento Histórico Nacional por su arquitectura y por los murales de su cúpula central, pintados por reconocidos artistas argentinos como Antonio Berni, Lino Spilimbergo, Juan Carlos Castagnino y Demetrio Urruchúa, y por el español Manuel Colmeiro Guimarás. Hacemos un tímido pase y al levantar la vista, un mural del futbolista Diego Armando Maradona nos recuerda que estamos en La Boca. El barrio del equipo de primera división nacional Boca Juniors, que durante los superclásicos viste sus calles con los colores de la camiseta del club de sus amores y colma los bares de simpatizantes que luego irán a la cancha para vitorear en el partido. Un silbido frío se asienta en nuestros oídos, pero no es de ninguna hinchada, sino del viento que nos golpea en la cara. Aún en clima veraniego, en Puerto Madero se siente la brisa del Río de la Plata. Este paraje exclusivo conjuga pintorescos paisajes de dársenas, embarcaciones y terrazas; con modernos y lujosos hoteles, oficinas y restaurantes. Así es la ciudad. Atractiva en cada rincón de sus 203 km2 de superficie. Artística y bohemia, futurista e innovadora. Cautivante, para recorrer sus 48 barrios y sentir su música, aroma y sabor una y mil veces.

Buenos Aires City, the most seductive tourist jewel in Argentina Owner of a unique attraction, Buenos Aires is a fast paced city, full of flavors and places open all day. Those who visit it for some days say goodbye wishing to see it again.

Dawn caresses its emblematic monuments: the Obelisk, the Mayo Pyramid, the Cabildo, the Galileo Galilei Planetarium, and the Woman´s Bridge. The city of Buenos Aires wakes up early, although many people say it never sleeps. It is famous for the billboards full of plays at the theaters on Corrientes Avenue, for the well illuminated bars and restaurants of Puerto Madero and Costanera, for the tango bars with orchestras and dancers in the neighborhoods of San Telmo and Boedo. The smell of coffee on Avenida de Mayo makes us stop. The morning starts off with hot churros and croissants for breakfast in one of the most traditional and remarkable bars, which different celebrities of the literary, musical and political world used as a meeting point for their feast. The Tortoni Café, opened in 1858, gathered writers such as Alfonsina Storni, Federico García Lorca and Jorge Luis Borges; artists such as Benito Quinquela Martín and Xul Solar; and personalities such as Juan Manuel Fangio and Carlos Gardel, many of them are portrayed in photographs that decorate the place and even in real size statues placed on a table close to ours, recreating a meeting like in the old times. As the morning goes by, we are witness of the urban, hectic, fascinating coming and going: the car horns, the fast step of businessmen and the newspaper boy shouting the main headlines of the national newspapers make up a post card that gets repeated every single day. At the traditional Plaza de Mayo, scenario for many historical and present events, the pigeons fly around a group of young people who share some mates with cookies. Around this green area, the oldest in the city, there are remarkable buildings such as el Cabildo, a branch of the colonial administration created after the city foundation in the 16th Century; the Metropolitan Cathedral, main branch of the Catholic Church in Argentina; the Casa de Gobierno, known as Casa Rosada (Presidential House), the Ministry of Economy, the matrix place of the Banco Nación, and the Palacio de Gobierno, branch of the National Executive Power. Just 300 meters away from the square, a parade of passersby and a pedestrian area where there are stands of florists, magazines and shoeshiners really wakes curiosity up. It
is Florida Street, famous for gathering a variety of stores, with picturesque buildings and the shopping mall Galerías Pacífico, built by the end of the 19th Century and declared National Historic Landmark for its architecture and the murals of its central dome, painted by renowned Argentine artists such as Antonio Berni, Lino Spilimbergo, Juan Carlos Castagnino and Demetrio Urruchúa, and by the Spanish painter Manuel Colmeiro Guimarás. Siestas do not exist in Buenos Aires. People travel mainly by taxi, buses and subway. The underground rails allow to connect many of the neighborhoods that form it. Down there, where the daylight does not reach, musicians and artists get together to entertain the journey for free. It is possible to imagine a colonial Buenos Aires in San Telmo, branch of the historic center, for the streets full of antiquaries. Its narrow lanes shelter tango and modern cafés; comic characters turned into sculptures decorate some corners, a tribute for creators like Quino, Caloi and Manuel García Ferré, among others. Like something out of a fairy tale, street lights, cobbled streets and colorful conventillos. A ball rolls to our feet and a group of guys, still with the school uniform, raise their hands. We timidly pass the ball and when we look upwards, a mural of the footballer Diego Armando Maradona reminds us where we are: in La Boca. The neighborhood of the team of first national division Boca Juniors, which during the matches dresses up its streets with the colors of the club t-shirts and fills the bars with fans that later on will go to the stadium to cheer the match. We hear a cold whistle, which does not belong to any fan but to the wind that blows against our faces. In Puerto Madero the breeze of the Río de la Plata is felt even in summertime. This exclusive spot combines picturesque landscapes of docks, boats, and terraces; with modern and luxurious hotels, offices and restaurants. The city is like this. Attractive in every corner of its 203 km2surface. Artistic and bohemian, futuristic and innovative. Captivating, to tour around its 48 neighborhoods and feel its music, aroma and flavor a thousand times.

Cada mes de octubre, los tulipanes imprimen de colores el paisaje patagónico, de la mano de la firma floricultora “Plantas del Sur”, que posee un predio de tres hectáreas ubicado en un desvío de la ruta 259. Es el mayor emprendimiento productor de tulipanes del país, que en los últimos años se transformó en un atractivo turístico único en la Argentina. El largo viaje de los tulipanes Lejos de lo que puede suponerse, los tulipanes no son originarios de Holanda, sino de Turquía. Se dice que en el Oriente Medio comenzó su cultivo, entre el siglo XI y XII, y que fueron los persas y el Imperio Otomano quienes lo desarrollaron. Fue en el siglo XVI cuando Holanda importó algunas especies y, a partir de un libro del botánico Carolus Clusius, sentó un precedente que aumentó la popularidad de los tulipanes, que perdura hasta la fecha y que incluso llevó a que se conozca al mencionado país como “floristería del mundo”. Con el tiempo, los tulipanes se desperdigaron con los navegantes por todo el planeta hasta este rincón de la Patagonia Argentina. El invierno frío y la primavera templada de las localidades de Esquel y Trevelin generan un escenario propicio para el desarrollo floricultor del tulipán. Con el comienzo del otoño, habitualmente entre abril y mayo, se cultivan los bulbos, que quedan tapados hasta septiembre, cuando nacen los tulipanes y crecen hasta que en octubre están en flor, momento en el cual explota también la atracción turística por estas especies. Turistas, ¡bienvenidos! El campo de tulipanes Plantas del Sur queda frente a la entrada a la Cascadas Nant y Fall. Son 12 kilómetros desde Trevelin y se llega en taxi o contratando una excursión a la cascada y el Molino Nant Fach. En la primera semana de octubre, los tulipanes suelen florecer y mantienen su esplendor durante la segunda semana del mes. Luego empiezan a cortarlos poco a poco hasta fin de mes.

A multicolored paradise in the Andes mountain range In spring, a panoramic postal card of long row of tulips stands out in the mountain range valley of Chubut, 25 kilometers away from Esquel and 12 from Trevelin. They are more than 27 varieties that extend in a land framed by a majestic mountainous landscape.
Every October, the tulips fill the Patagonian landscape with colors, thanks to the floricultural firm , “Plantas del Sur” which has a three-hectare land located on a detour of the Route 259. It is the biggest tulips producer undertaking in the country, which has become a tourist attraction in Argentina in the last years. The tulips´ long trip Far from what it is believed, tulips do not come from The Netherlands, but from Turkey. It is said that its cultivation started in the Middle East, between 11th and 12th Century, and that the Persian and Ottoman Empire developed it. It was in the 16th Century that The Netherlands imported some species and, from a book by the botanist Carolus Clusius, set precedent which increased the popularity of tulips that lasts until today and that it even turned such country into the “world florist”. Later on, tulips were spread all around the planet up to this corner in the Argentine Patagonia. The cold winter and the mild spring of the districts of Esquel and Trevelin created an ideal scenario for the tulip floricultural development. At the beginning of the fall, generally between April and May, the bulbs are cultivated, they get covered until September, when the tulips are born and grow until they are in blossom in October, when the tourist attraction for these species also explodes. Welcome tourists! The tulip field called Plantas del Sur is opposite the entrance of Nant and Fall Water Falls. It is 12 kilometers away from Trevelin and people arrive there by taxi or by hiring an excursion to the water fall and the Nant Fach Windmill. Siempre me gustaron las estaciones de tren. Hay algo del tiempo que parece quedar allí detenido, aunque las formaciones vayan y vengan con un ritmo constante. Era 1985 y yo acababa de nacer. Mi hermano 12 años mayor sería quien me contara las historias que hicieron que para mí, esa estación, la estación El Talar, tuviera en sus vías el relato que me fascinó en mis primeros años. Nuestra casa de la infancia está a tres cuadras de allí. Leonardo, o Toti, como le decían los pibes de la cuadra, jugaba al fútbol desde que se levantaba hasta que nuestra mamá Emma, cual referí, pegaba el grito que marcaba el momento de entrar. La calle era para Toti el lugar donde vivir el barrio, lleno de amigos y aventuras. Con sus fieles compañeros, Pablito y Peti, pasaban horas con la pelota a una cuadra de la estación, y en los días de verano cuando el sol pegaba implacable, los tres esperaban que pasara el tren para tomarse un merecido descanso. Le preguntaban al guarda el horario exacto en que la formación estaría por ahí, y con la pelota bajo el brazo se subían al vagón y viajaban hasta la estación Victoria, en donde esperaban el tren que va de Tigre a Retiro para combinar y bajarse en la estación Olivos, en busca de las playas en donde pasaban un buen rato bañándose antes de emprender el camino de regreso a casa. Así, los días de calor se pasaban mejor. Eran épocas que yo conocí y viví a través de los ojos de mi hermano mayor, años en los que todavía los pibes podían andar solos, sin tantos peligros, con la familia de corazón que eran los amigos del barrio como escudo protector. Hoy voy a esa estación y recuerdo mis primeros años, la fascinación con la que miraba –y aún miro- a mi hermano querido, a mi mentor, mi compañero. Hay estaciones que guardan historias y tiempos, hay vagones cargados de momentos, hay vínculos que viajan y conectan. Hay recorridos que valen la pena: hay trenes que te llevan y traen y hay viajes que comienzan con tan sólo cerrar los ojos y recordar aquellas épocas.

I´ve always liked train stations. There is something about the time that seems to be stuck in there, although the trains go and come at a constant pace. It was 1985 and I was just born. My brother, 12 years older, was who told me the tales that made that station, El Talar, have in its railways the story that fascinated me the most during my first years. The house of our childhood is just three blocks from there. Leonardo, or Toti, as the kids used to call him, played football since he got up to the moment our mum Emma, like a referee, shouted to go in. The street was for Toti the place where to live the neighborhood, full of friends and adventures. Together with his loyal mates, Pablito and Peti, he spent hours and hours playing with the ball one block away from the station, and in the summertime when the sun was merciless, the three of them waited for the train to pass by to take a well-deserved break. They asked the train conductor about the exact time the train would be over there, and with the ball under the arm, they got on the carriage and traveled up to Victoria Station, where they waited for the train that goes from Tigre to Retiro to combine and get off at Olivos Station, in search of beaches where to take a long bath before coming home. This way, the hot days were tolerated better. They were times that I didn´t know and lived through my older brother, years when kids could play by themselves, without so many risks, together with the neighborhood friends like a shield. I am going to that station today and I do remember my first years, the fascination with which I looked up to, and still look up to my dear brother, my mentor, my partner. There are stations that keep stories and times, there are carriages full of memories, there are bonds that travel and connect. There are journeys that are worth making: there are trains that take and bring you back and there are journeys that start by just closing the eyes and remembering those days.

Sierras, arroyos y campo: una combinación genial para una escapada de la gran ciudad, un respiro del ruido y la vorágine de la vida diaria. Sierra de la Ventana era un destino que siempre me había resultado tentador, por lo que me detuve a mirar algunas fotos, a buscar información en las redes y a conversar con algunos amigos que habían estado en el lugar y que no dudaron en recomendármelo. Los 556 kilómetros que separan la Capital Federal de la Comarca, como llaman a esa zona, son apacibles, colmados de campos sembrados y ondulaciones que hacen del viaje un momento de relax. Fueron alrededor de 6 horas hacia el sur de la provincia de Buenos Aires y la ruta provincial N°76 nos condujo de pronto a un paisaje soñado, donde prevalecía un llamativo contraste de colores: celeste en el cielo, sierras marrones, campos con pastizales amarillos y sembradíos verdosos. Parecía una especie de mezcla de otros lugares que ya habíamos visitado, una fusión perfecta entre las sierras cordobesas, los campos pampeanos y la majestuosidad de la Patagonia. En el camino hacia nuestro alojamiento cruzamos el pueblo, que para nuestra sorpresa era mucho más grande de lo que esperábamos, con numerosos negocios, locales gastronómicos y de esparcimiento, como plazas y parques con juegos. El tren cruza la urbanización y los arroyos de agua cristalina bordean la pequeña ciudad, en una escena pintoresca y digna de una postal. Detuvimos la marcha antes de llegar y registramos algunas imágenes que parecían remontarnos a un tiempo pasado. Seguíamos estando en Buenos Aires pero sentimos que mágicamente habíamos arribado a otra provincia mucho más lejana. La cabaña que elegimos no podía haber sido mejor: ubicada en Villa Arcadia, el sector residencial de la Comarca, es una de las últimas quintas con 4 hectáreas de campo y salida directa al arroyo. El clima seco pero caluroso hizo que aprovecháramos para refrescarnos allí todas las tardes. Durante las mañanas recorrimos varios poblados cercanos repletos de historia y bonitos paisajes: Saldungaray, Tornquist y Villa Ventana. No nos privamos tampoco de las delicias culinarias del lugar: ricas empanadas, cordero, conservas al escabeche. Y disfrutamos de cabalgatas mientras el sol pintaba el cielo de naranja en unos de los atardeceres más lindos que tuvimos la suerte de admirar. Sin dudas un lugar para llenar la memoria de bellos recuerdos, capturar fotos increíbles y volver cuantas veces se pueda.

Hills, streams and countryside: a great combination for a break from the big city, a rest from noise and hectic everyday life. Sierra de la Ventana has always seemed an appalling destination to me; that is why I stopped to watch some photos, look for information on the net and talk to some friends who had been there and who did not hesitate to recommend it. The 556 kilometers that separate Capital Federal from the Comarca, as the call that region, are pleasant, full of sown fields and uneven lands that turn the trip into a relaxing moment. We traveled for around 6 hours towards the south of the province of Buenos Aires and the provincial route N°76 suddenly led us to a dreamy landscape, where an outstanding contrast of colors prevailed: light blue in the sky, brown hills, fields with yellow meadow and greenish sown fields. It seemed a mixture of places that we had already visited, a perfect fusion between the hills in Córdoba, the fields of La Pampa and the majesty of the Patagonia. In the way towards our lodging we went across the town, which surprisingly was much bigger than what we expected, with countless stores, gastronomic shops and leisure centers such as squares and parks full of games. The train goes through the urban area and crystal water streams skirt the small city, in a picturesque scene just like a postal card. We stopped before arriving and recorded some images that seemed to take us to a past time. We still were in Buenos Aires but we felt that we had magically arrived in another further province. The cabin we chose could not have been any better: located in Villa Arcadia, in the residential area of the Comarca, is a 4-hectare-countryhouse and a direct way to the stream. The dry climate but hot made us refresh there every afternoon In the mornings, we toured around the many close towns full of history and pretty landscapes: Saldungaray, Tornquist and Villa Ventana. We did not miss the local delicacies of the place either: delicious empanadas, lamb, canned food in escabeche. And we enjoyed horse-riding while the sun painted the sky orange in one of the most beautiful dusk that we were lucky enough to admire. Undoubtedly, a place to store beautiful memories, capture incredible photos and come back as many times as possible.

Frente a la península italiana y a poca distancia de os Balcanes, esta ciudad del sur de Croacia despliega todo su esplendor tras combinar playas teñidas por el azul profundo del mar, con un casco histórico rodeado de murallas y fortalezas de antaño.
El tiempo parece haberse detenido. La vista panorámica da cuenta de la peculiar belleza de Dubrovnik: la “ciudad vieja” es un escenario de película, al mejor estilo medieval. Y al llegar a su entrada principal, esta sensación se vuelve aún más intensa. Es que para conocer el casco histórico es necesario atravesar los muros e ingresar por Pile, una puerta de acceso que tiene en su arco a San Blas, el patrón de la ciudad. Del otro lado, Stradun -la arteria principal cubierta de mármol-, se ha ido puliendo por las pisadas de la historia. Allí el asombro es una constante porque caminar por sus calles es transitar un museo a cielo abierto, lleno de monumentos excepcionales y edificaciones de una calidad arquitectónica inigualable. De forma transversal, las estrechas calles de adoquines atesoran la verdadera magia del lugar: perderse en los recovecos, tomarse un café escuchando música en vivo y reírse del propio cansancio que genera subir miles de escaleras es, sin duda, el mejor plan.

A pesar del terremoto de 1667 y los bombardeos durante la Guerra de los Balcanes en 1991, esta urbe medieval supo reconstruirse y revalorizarse casi por completo. Las paradas obligadas son muchas y el recorrido debe realizarse a pie, ya que el centro de la ciudad - declarado desde 1979 como Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO- se encuentra dentro del perímetro de las murallas y es exclusivamente peatonal. Por eso, el calzado cómodo no puede faltar, como tampoco unos minutos de descanso. En los días de calor agobiante, lo ideal es hacer una parada en la fuente de Onofrio, no sólo para apreciar su construcción de piedra que data del siglo XV, sino también para aprovechar el agua fresca que emana de las 16 caras de su estructura poligonal. Otras de las atracciones populares son las catedrales, iglesias y monasterios. Al atravesar sus puertas, la cultura de la ciudad invade cada rincón. Todo llama la atención, cada detalle cuenta una historia y las vicisitudes del pasado dicen -paradójicamentepresente a cada paso. El recorrido por las murallas y sus cinco fortalezas es otro de los imperdibles de la ciudad. Al ritmo que cada uno prefiera, transitar sus casi 2 kilómetros de longitud y 25 metros de alto es una experiencia única. Cada parada es una excusa para respirar hondo y disfrutar, para inmortalizar en fotos lo que los ojos contemplan, para emocionarse con la inmensidad de los muros de piedra en fusión con el azul del Mar Adriático y el rojizo de los tejados de las casas, tal como si estuviésemos dentro de una obra de arte.

DUBROVNIK Y SI DE PLAYAS SE TRATA... Pero aquí no termina el deleite. Dubrovnik es multifacética: por un lado, la historia y la cultura a flor de piel. Por otro, la naturaleza invade cada rincón de su costa. Y es fácil empaparse de la belleza de sus playas, en las que el agua cristalina y las piedras blancas son una marca registrada. El catálogo es amplio y las hay para todos los gustos. La más accesible y concurrida (ubicada cerca del puerto viejo) es Banje. A simple vista, es una playa de arena artificial con un restaurante muy chic. ¿Qué tiene de excepcional? La posibilidad de relajarse en unos cómodos camastros mientras se contempla, nada más y nada menos, una postal de la ciudad amurallada. Sveti Jakov es, por el contrario, mucho más agreste y solitaria. Encontrarla a pie no es tan fácil y la posibilidad de conocerla tras arribar en una de las pequeñas embarcaciones que salen desde el puerto viejo, le aporta encanto al paseo. Allí un antiguo muelle completa la escena, donde predomina el azul intenso del mar, las piedras blancas, la arena dorada y por sobre todo, la tranquilidad. Visitar Dubrovnik es un viaje en el tiempo. Es ser protagonista de un cuento, situado en un escenario medieval. Es entender, desde la experiencia, por qué la llaman “la perla del Adriático”. Porque al recorrerla y vivirla, su encanto se vuelve evidente, su magia se hace presente y su misterio al fin se revela.
UN PASEO POR EL ESCENARIO DE GAME OF THRONES Dubrovnik se volvió aún más popular luego de haber sido uno de los lugares elegidos para la filmación de la famosa serie de HBO “Game of Thrones”. Allí se ubicó el ficticio “Desembarco del Rey”, conocido como la capital de los siete reinos en la historia que nace de la novela escrita por el autor estadounidense George R.R. Martin. Para los amantes de la serie, se organizan a diario tours que invitan a realizar un recorrido por las distintas locaciones de algunas de las escenas claves. Así, jugando a ser un protagonista más, los fanáticos transitan lugares emblemáticos de la ficción, conocen anécdotas del rodaje e imitan en sus fotografías, a las escenas originales.

' Dormir en el centro histórico es encantador, pero también la opción más cara para hospedarse. Fuera del casco viejo existe una amplia oferta de hoteles y de departamentos de alquiler. Muchos de ellos advierten a los visitantes la cantidad de escalones para acceder a los mismos, ya que fuera de las murallas, la ciudad está construida en altura. De todas formas, para quienes no se animan a hacerlo caminando, se puede llegar en taxi y colectivo. Allí, las vistas panorámicas de los balcones no tienen desperdicio.

The medieval city that is a boom in Europe Opposite the Italian peninsula and at a short distance from the Balkans, this city of the south of Croatia displays all its splendor by combining beaches dyed by the deep blue sea, with a historic center surrounded by big walls and old fortress. Time seems to have stopped. The panoramic view shows the particular beauty of Dubrovnik: the “old city” in a film set, in the best medieval style. When arriving at the main entrance, this sensation becomes even more intense. The point is that in order to know the historic center it is necessary to go through the great walls and enter through Pile, an access that has the patron Saint of the city in its arc: San Blass. On the other side, Stradun –the main artery covered with marble-, has been polished by the history´s footprints. The astonishment there is constant because walking along its streets is going through an open-air museum, full of exceptional monuments and buildings of unique architectural quality. Transversely, the narrow cobbled streets treasure the true magic of the place: get lost in the nooks, have a coffee while listening to music alive and laugh at the tiredness that means to climb thousands of stairs is, undoubtedly, the best plan.
DUBROVNIK \\where to stay ' Sleeping in the historic center is charming, but it is also the most expensive option to lodge. Outside the old center, there is a wide range of hotels and apartments for rent. Many of them warn the guests about the quantity of steps to access them, since outside the great walls, the city is built at height. Anyway, for those who do not dare to do it on foot, they can get there by taxi or bus. There, the panoramic views of the balconies are breathtaking.

' In order to enjoy the beaches, April, May, September and October are recommendable. It is important to avoid the high European season (June, July, August) because it is almost impossible to move through the city due to the huge quantity of tourists who arrive on daily cruises.
Must-see attractions In spite of the earthquake in 1667 and the bombings during the Balkan War in 1991, this medieval metropolis knew how to get reconstructed and revalued almost completely. The obligatory stops are many and the tour must be done on foot, since the city center – declared a Mankind Heritage by UNESCO since 1979- is found within the surface of the great walls and is exclusively pedestrian. That is why comfortable footwear is essential, as well as some rest. During the boiling hot days, the ideal is to stop at Onofrio fountain, not only to appreciate its stone construction which dates back to the 15th Century, but also to take advantage of the fresh water that emanates from the 16 faces of its polygonal structure. Other popular attractions are the cathedrals, churches and monasteries. The culture invades every corner once you go through their doors. Everything calls the attention, every detail tells a story and the vicissitudes of the past are paradoxically present on every step. The journey along the great walls and their five forts is another must of the city. Traveling around its almost 2 kilometer-length and 25-kilometer-height, at any pace, is a wonderful experience. Every stop is an excuse to deeply breathe and enjoy, to immortalize what the eyes contemplate in photographs, to thrill to the

immensity of the stone walls merged with the blue of the Adriatic Sea and the red of the roofs as if we were inside a work of art. And if it is about beaches... Yet, the delight does not end here. Dubrovnik is versatile: on the one hand, history and culture everywhere, on the other hand, nature invades every corner of its coast. And it is easy to get soaked with the beauty of its beaches, where the crystal water and white stones are a trade mark. The range is wide and there are options for everyone. The most crowded and accessible is Banje; located close to the old port. At a glance, it is a beach with artificial sand and with a very chic restaurant. What is special with it? The chance to relax in those comfortable sunbeds while you contemplate nothing but a postcard of the walled city. On the contrary, Sveti Jakov is wilder and more deserted. Finding it on foot is not that easy and the possibility of knowing it after arriving on one of the little boats that leave from the old port, provides the journey with charm. An old dock completes the scene, where an intense blue sea prevails, the white stones, the golden sand and, overall, quietness. Visiting Dubrovnik is a trip in time. It is to be the protagonist of a short story, set in a medieval scenario. It is to understand, from the experience, why it is called “the Adriatic´s pearl”. Because by touring around it and living it, its charm becomes evident and its mystery is revealed at last. A journey around the scenario of Game of Thrones Dubrovnik became even more popular after having been one of the places chosen for the filming of the famous HBO series “Game of Thrones”. The fictional “King´s disembarkation”, known as the capital of the seven kingdoms in the story that is based on the novel written by the American author George R.R. Martin, is placed there. For the series lovers, daily tours are organized to take a journey around the different locations of some of the key scenes. Thus, playing to be one more protagonist, the fans go to emblematic places of the fiction, know anecdotes about the filming and imitate the original scenes in their photographs.

“TODOS PODEMOS DISFRUTAR DEL PLACER DE VOLAR” El miedo a volar en avión impide que muchas personas disfruten de la experiencia de viajar y conocer lugares fascinantes del mundo. Por suerte, hay mucho por hacer para superar esta fobia.

Los miedos de aquellos que sufren la experiencia de subirse a un avión son muchos y variados. Sin embargo, Claudio Plá Alem, médico psiquiatra y fundador de Poder Volar, asegura que se puede superar la fobia a viajar en avión. Desde 1995 dicta cursos que ofrecen soluciones a los pasajeros con miedo a volar y ayudan a mejorar la calidad de los vuelos de los viajeros frecuentes. Si bien la evidencia estadística indica que el avión es el medio de transporte más seguro, quienes padecen el momento del vuelo no encuentran tranquilidad en los números. “Hay que mostrarles la trastienda, contarles las múltiples razones por las cuales el avión es el medio de transporte más seguro que hay en la actualidad. Esas razones son las que van a terminar de consolidar el porqué de la estadística”, asegura Plá Alem. Pero no todo se resume en datos duros: “Quien tiene miedo a volar ha acopiado una cadena de informaciones negativas que se almacenaron en el cerebro y se fueron acrecentando hasta desarrollar una fobia”, indica el especialista. Los miedos pueden aparecer al momento del despegue o el aterrizaje, por tormentas o condiciones climáticas e incluso por turbulencias. Para terminar con la fobia, o por lo menos mejorar la calidad del vuelo, es necesario trabajar de manera integral sobre distintos aspectos. “Nuestro enfoque aborda las áreas de la psicología, la aeronáutica, la meteorología y la seguridad en el avión. Nosotros cambiamos la cosmovisión que la persona tiene de la nave, buscamos reprogramar el cerebro mediante distintas herramientas de relajación para bajar la ansiedad y con información racional sobre la seguridad en los aviones”, explica Claudio. Para superar el miedo a volar, el primer paso es que la persona reconozca que tiene una limitación, que haga un balance de todo lo que está perdiendo en su vida y lo que podría ganar de superar esta inhibición. El siguiente paso es generar el deseo, la motivación para salir de sus dificultades. “Todos podemos disfrutar del placer de volar”, enfatiza el titular de Poder Volar. “Un avión debe ser como el living de una casa, uno debe estar viendo una película, comiendo, leyendo, durmiendo un rato. Podemos tener alguna incomodidad en algún momento, pero el vuelo tiene que llegar a ser algo placentero”. Muchas de las personas que realizaron el curso compararon el resultado con la sensación de “salir de una jaula”, una posibilidad de abrirse al mundo. Claudio Plá Alem entiende que la clave está en resignificar la experiencia: “No hay actividad más rica que la de viajar y descubrir nuevos lugares, otros países, otras culturas. The fears of those who suffer from the experience of getting on a plane are many and varied. However, Claudio Plá Alem, Psychiatrist and founder of Poder Volar, assures that the phobia can be overcome. From 1995, he gives classes that offer solutions to passengers who are terrified of flying and help improve the quality of the frequent travelers´ flights. Although statistic evidence shows that planes are the safest means of transport, those who suffer from flying do not find relief in figures. “We have to show them the back room, tell them the about the many reasons why planes are the safest transportation today. Those reasons are the ones that will consolidate the cause of the statistics”, Plá Alem assures. Yet, not everything is harsh data: “That who is afraid of flying has collected a chain of negative information that was stored in the brain and was increasing turning it into a phobia”, the specialist points out. The fear can appear when taking off or landing, with storms or weather conditions or even turbulence. In order to finish with the phobia, or at least to improve the quality of the flight, it is necessary to integrally work on different aspects. “Our focus deals with areas of psychology, aeronautics, meteorology and plane safety. We change the view that the person has about the aircraft, we try to reprogram the brain by means of different relaxation tools to slow the anxiety down and by means of rational information on airplanes safety”, Claudio explains. With the aim of overcoming the fear of flying, the first step is for the person to recognize that he has a limitation, that he considers everything he is missing in his life and what he might get if he overcame this inhibition. The next step is to create the wish, the motivation to surpass the difficulties. “Everybody can enjoy the pleasure of flying”, the headline of Poder Volar emphasizes. “A plane must be like the living room of a house, one must be watching a movie, eating, reading, dozing off. We can have some discomfort some time, but the flight has to be something pleasant”. Many people who took the course compared the result with the sensation of “Getting out of a cage”, a possibility of opening to the world. Claudio Plá Alem understands that the key lies in resignifying the experience: “There is not such a richer activity than that one of traveling and discovering new places, other countries, other cultures. Con el tibio sol de la mañana me dirigí a San Telmo, uno de los barrios con más opciones culturales de la ciudad de Buenos Aires. Vale llegar un rato antes del horario del almuerzo para caminar por sus baldosas empedradas, respirar el aire relajado que fluye entre cientos de turistas, deambular por la zona y detenerse a mirar en detalle cada objeto detrás de las numerosas vidrieras que cuentan historias infinitas. Emplazado en la calle Bolívar, el mercado del lugar. Basta poner un pie allí dentro para que una ola de colores y olores te invada por completo. Visitarlo es tomar un tren imaginario al pasado, a la niñez, a esos tiempos inolvidables. Cuántos de nosotros tenemos en algún rincón de casa ese objeto heredado por alguna abuela, tía, madre o suegra. Entrar allí es un sinfín de sensaciones, cada pieza despierta un recuerdo: los míos, traídos por una vajilla igualita a la que mi nona ponía en su pulcro mantel blanco o por un copón de cristal como el que mi mamá exhibía orgullosa en su biblioteca, a la venta a un precio elevadísimo. Una gran cantidad de puestos de antigüedades, vinilos, juguetes de chapa, muñecas que parecen salidas de una película de terror, ropa y calzado vintage conforman un paseo imperdible tanto para turistas como para locales. Y entre puesto y puesto, mi parte favorita de toda la salida: islas de comidas con sabores de distintas regiones. El momento del descanso y del deleite del paladar, con opciones tan variadas como sabrosas: tapas españolas, comida árabe, platos típicos del norte, dulces y cafés parisinos e incluso comidas caribeñas. El aroma que emanaba de un horno de barro de#44
SAN TELMO MARKET. On a warm sunny morning, I headed for San Telmo, one of the neighborhoods with the most cultural options in the city of Buenos Aires. It is well worth arriving earlier than lunchtime to walk along its cobbled streets, breath the relaxing air that flows among hundreds of tourists, tour around the area and stop to meticulously watch every object lying behind the countless shop windows that tell endless stories. The Marketplace is located on Bolívar Street. With only setting a foot in it, a color and smell wave invades you all. Visiting it means taking an imaginary train to the past, to the childhood, to those unforgettable times. How many of us keep that object inherited from some grandmother, aunt, mother or mother-in-law somewhere in the house! Going inside is an endless sensation, every piece wakes a memory up: mine, brought by a pot exactly the same as the one my granny would lay on her neat white table cloth or a large crystal cup like the one my mum would proudly show on her bookcase, on sale, very expensive indeed. A great quantity of shops offering antiques, vinyl records, tin toys, dolls which appear to be taken out from a terror movie, vintage clothes and shoes turn this tour into a must not only for tourists but also for local people. And between stand and stand, my favorite part of the tour: food with flavors from different regions. The time for the break and delight for the palate, with varied and delicious options: Spanish tapas, Arabian food, Typical Northern dishes, Parisian sweets and coffees and even Caribbean food. The smell coming from a brick oven undoubtedly determined my choice: knife-cut meat empanadas at the restaurant “El Hornero”. At a marble bar, next to a French man who from time to time tried to invade my personal space, I got ready to taste

terminó sin dudas mi elección: empanadas de carne cortada a cuchillo en el restaurante “El Hornero”. En una barra de mármol, codo a codo con un francés que de tanto en tanto intentaba invadir mi espacio personal, me dispuse a saborear la mejor versión de este clásico argentino, algo preocupada por no manchar mi impecable pantalón blanco con el jugo que soltó al primer mordisco esta delicia nacional. Para el postre, una parada en Coffee Town, un pequeño lugar muy coqueto y de estilo parisino, en un puesto que domina el centro del mercado. Allí, su clásico espresso “Mercado”, corto e intenso, para terminar de un sólo sorbo, acompañado de una cookie de chocolate casera de un dulzor justo. Con mi panza llena y el corazón más que contento, terminé la recorrida con una bolsa en cada mano, con la ilusión de llevarme un pedacito de esa tarde materializada en un objeto con historia, una reliquia que volverá a cobrar vida en algún bendecido rincón de mi casa.

For dessert, a stop at Coffee Town, a very pretty, little and Parisian style place, in a stand that takes over the center of the market. There, its classic “Market” espresso, short and intense, to finish it in just one sip, together with a homemade chocolate cookie with the right sweetness. Full stomach, happy heart, I ended up my tour with a bag in each hand, with the illusion of taking a piece of that afternoon materialized in an object with history, a relic that will come back to life again in some blessed corner of my house.
