Las propuestas para estas vacaciones de invierno son muchas y para todos los gustos. El primero de los viajes nos lleva el norte argentino, a la provincia de Tucumán, dueña de todos los climas y paisajes. En esta edición te presentamos 5 opciones para el disfrute de toda la familia, que conjugan naturaleza, aventura, cultura e historia. El segundo, al oeste de La Rioja, con su principal atracción: el Parque Nacional Talampaya, punto de partida ideal para visitar otros sitios de interés cercanos, como Embalse de La Loma, Banda Florida, Cráter Corona del Inca, entre otros. Por el puente internacional «General Artigas», vamos y venimos para conocer dos ciudades en un mismo viaje: Colón y Paysandú, dos pueblos atravesados y hermanados por el Río Uruguay. A nivel internacional, viajamos a Moscú, Rusia, sede del Mundial de Fútbol 2018. El evento deportivo reunirá a turistas de todo el mundo que podrán recorrer la emblemática Plaza Roja, conocer los museos subterráneos y dejarse maravillar por sus impresionantes obras arquitectónicas. Y finalmente, un informe para reflexionar acerca del impacto que produce el movimiento turístico en los diferentes destinos y cómo podemos colaborar para alcanzar la meta del turismo sustentable.-

The proposals for these winter holidays are many and for every taste. The first trip takes us to the north of Argentina, to the province of Tucumán, owner of all climates and landscapes. In this issue we present 5 options for all the family to enjoy; the options combine nature, adventure, culture and history. The second one, to the west of La Rioja, with its main attraction: The National Park Talampaya, ideal starting point to visit other near sites of interest, such as the de La Loma Reservoir, Banda Florida, Corona del Inca Crater, among others. Through the international bridge «General Artigas», we go and come to know two cities in the same trip: Colón and Paysandú, two towns linked and traversed by the Uruguay River. Internationally, we traveled to Moscow, Russia, host of the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The sport event will gather tourists all over the world who will tour around the Red Square, visit the underground subways and get marvel at its impressive architectural works. And finally, a report to reflect on the impact that the tourist movement produces on the different destinations and how we can help to reach the goal of sustainable tourism.-

Valles Calchaquíes, la mística de la madre tierra Para salir de la rutina y entrar en contacto con la naturaleza y lo ancestral, los valles calchaquíes en Tucumán son la elección adecuada. Se trata de cambiar de aire, respirar profundo y atravesar los diferentes climas que vive la población local en pleno contacto con el verde y el cielo. La yunga acompaña a los viajeros hasta Tafí del Valle, con un verde pronunciado que hace sentir la inmensidad de la naturaleza: no hay ninguna población humana, pero la flora y la fauna estallan en colores y abundancia. 1

Ruta del Artesano Los Valles Calchaquíes cobijan en su interior un inigualable patrimonio cultural. Artesanos de distintas especialidades desarrollan productos llenos de vida, que sellan la cultura e imprimen las huellas de los antepasados. Un recorrido por la Ruta del Artesano invita a sentir la magia de los productos acabados, tales como cuero, platería, lana, arcilla, piedra, tejidos y tantos otros materiales ancestrales que expresan la tradición de un pueblo marcado por su impronta cultural. 2

Ruta del Vino Los imponentes Valles Calchaquíes se convierten en el escenario ideal para degustar los más exquisitos vinos. Al oeste de la provincia y a lo largo de la mítica Ruta 40, se encuentra la Ruta del Vino tucumana. El microclima de esta región se caracteriza por una gran amplitud térmica, con jornadas diáfanas y de escasa humedad, producto de su imponente altura que alcanza los 3.000 metros sobre el nivel del mar en algunas zonas. Todas estas características, además de impactar directamente en las cualidades de los vinos, ofrecen un hábitat de sosiego con gran valoración por parte de los visitantes. En Amaicha existe la única Bodega Comunitaria de Sudamérica manejada por el pueblo originario, Los Amaichas. 3

Ciudad Sagrada de Quilmes Para revivir la historia del último bastión de la resistencia aborigen ante el avance español, hay que recorrer los 20 kilómetros que separan Amaicha del Valle de este sitio arqueológico de relevancia internacional. La Ciudad Sagrada de Quilmes es el poblado más cercano, con una variedad de servicios, considerado como uno de los asentamientos indígenas más importantes del país. El lugar es increíble en todo sentido. No sólo por estar entre montañas y con un paisaje único, sino también por toda la historia que guarda. Una historia que, con el relato del guía, de a poco se puede ir visualizando y trazando sobre las paredes y las construcciones que perduran hasta hoy. En medio de la inmensidad, donde se siente el viento y el sol bajo el cielo tucumano, se llega a este paraje especial, que cuenta la historia de uno de los asentamientos prehispánicos más importantes: los Quilmes, que alcanzaron un inmenso desarrollo social y económico. En el siglo XVII, llegaron a tener 3.000 habitantes en el área urbana y 10.000 en los alrededores antes del avance español. El sitio arqueológico, al que en temporada alta llegan más de 1.000 viajeros por día, hoy puede conocerse en compañía de un guía. Y la experiencia bien vale el viaje: en la falda del cerro ya se pueden advertir las reconstrucciones de la zona residencial, rematada por una fortaleza situada en la cumbre y dos fortines a ambos costados, sobre la cornisa. Al llegar a la cima, la vista imponente ayuda a visualizar mejor toda la Ciudad Sagrada. Es el lugar preciso para rendir tributo a la Pachamama con una apacheta, en la que cada uno de los visitantes participa con una ofrenda a la Madre Tierra. 4

Centro de Interpretación Ciudad Sagrada de Quilmes El Centro de Interpretación de la Ciudad Sagrada de Quilmes incorpora un nuevo concepto de la museografía destinado a que los visitantes tengan una experiencia sensorial en su acercamiento a la cultura de los Quilmes. La cultura quilmes queda reflejada de un modo conmovedor, permitiendo transmitir el mensaje de esta herencia que se perpetúa hasta hoy, y por sobre todo adquirir un sentido de compromiso y respeto por los valores ancestrales heredados de estos pueblos originarios. The Wine´s Route The impressive Calchaquíes Valleys become the ideal scenery to taste the most exquisite wines. The Sacred City of Quilmes In order to revive the history of the last bastion of aborigine resistance before the Spanish settlement, you have to travel the 20 kilometers that separate Amaicha del Valle from this internationally recognized archeological site. The Sacred City of Quilmes is the closest town, with a wide range of services, considered one of the most important native settlement in the country. The place is amazing in every sense of the word. Not only because it is among mountains and a breathtaking landscape, but also because of all the history it keeps. A history that, thanks to the guide´s talk, can be gradually visualized and drawn on the walls and the constructions that last up to today. In the middle of the immensity, where the wind and sun are felt under the sky of Tucumán, you can reach this special spot, which tells the story of one of the most important prehispanic settlements: the Quilmes, which reached a huge social and economic development. In the 17th century, they had 3,000 inhabitants in the urban area and 10,000 in the outskirts before the arrival of the Spanish. The archeological site, to which more than 1,000 travelers arrive a day in high season, can be known together with a guide. And the experience is worth taking: in 4

the hillside you can already see the reconstructions of the residential area, crowned with a fortress placed on the top and two small forts on both sides, over the ledge. When arriving at the top, the breathtaking view helps see the entire Sacred City better. It is the exact place to pay tribute to the Pachamama with a cairn, in which each visitor participates by giving a gift to the Motherland. 5

Sacred City of Quilmes Interpretation Center The Interpretation Center of the Sacred City of Quilmes incorporates a new concept of museography for the visitors to have a sensory experience in their approach to the Quilmes´culture. This culture is reflected in a moving way, allowing to transmit the message of this heritage that is perpetuated up to today, and above all to get an engagement and respect sense for the ancestral values of these native towns. LA META DEL TURISMO SOSTENIBLE Los destinos turísticos nos llenan de recuerdos memorables y experiencias gratificantes. Pero nosotros, los viajeros, ¿podemos causar un impacto positivo o sólo dejamos basura y contaminación ambiental? - Texto por Rocío Pujol -

l regresar de un viaje no somos los mismos. Los paisajes y sus habitantes, así como los sonidos, colores, aromas y sabores dejan marcas en nuestra corteza cerebral. Nos impregnamos de la cultura lugareña, al punto tal que -algunas veces- regresamos con un nuevo modismo o adoptamos una nueva tradición. ¡Sin dudas no somos los mismos! ¿Pero qué sucede con el destino? ¿Qué repercusiones puede causarle nuestra estadía en lo económico, social y medioambiental? «Toda actividad económica genera de alguna manera un impacto ambiental. En este sentido, el turismo no escapa a ello; pero lo que se intenta a través del turismo sustentable es que los impactos negativos sean los menores posibles», remarca la consultora y asesora en Turismo Sustentable, Marita Cuello. Marita acompaña al sector público y privado en la planificación y gestión de espacios turísticos desde un enfoque que permita preservar los recursos económicos, sociales y medioambientales. Estos tres pilares son el eje del turismo sustentable y los países deben considerarlos en su agenda para proteger la biodiversidad y el patrimonio cultural y desarrollo comunitario de las generaciones futuras. «En cuestiones de sustentabilidad, individuos y organizaciones solemos actuar por alguna de tres razones: por coerción, por comparación o por convencimiento. Sólo si nos obligan, cumplimos (y si nos penalizan, más aún); si otro hace algo que le funciona, tal vez lo imitamos; si creemos firmemente en algo, actuamos en consecuencia. El turismo no es ajeno a este fenómeno, y además de que la legislación ha sido más bien laxa (o inexistente) cuando a las organizaciones del sector les tocan el bolsillo es cuando más parecen reaccionar», advierte la licenciada Laura Rojo Bily; consultora, capacitadora y docente en el mundo de la Hospitalidad. 16

«La buena noticia es que, aunque queda mucho por hacer, algo está cambiando y hoy estamos mejor que ayer: quizá impulsados por ciertas modas, tal vez por imitación, ojalá cada vez más, por convicción. Además empezamos a advertir que los tres pilares (económico, sociocultural, ambiental) son claves y necesarios, y si alguno falta, el frágil equilibrio se rompe, en ocasiones de forma irremediable», continúa Rojo Bily. Destinos con conciencia De norte a sur, cinco provincias argentinas presentan su oferta turística responsable. En abril de 2017, el Gobierno de Jujuy firmó un memorándum de entendimiento con Airbnb, una empresa de origen norteamericano fundada en 2008 y que a través de su plataforma ofrece alojamientos particulares y turísticos. El objetivo del acuerdo es promocionar el turismo sostenible fomentando la actividad en zonas rurales y áreas naturales de Jujuy. Esto permitiría que, por ejemplo, quienes ofrezcan su vivienda como alojamiento puedan percibir ingreso extra como anfitriones: en el año 2017, un anfitrión jujeño que ofrecía su espacio en la plataforma

Su fachada arquitectónica medieval fue construida en 1870 y dejada al abandono hasta que la familia Fábrega Obrador se propuso devolverle vida con pautas ecológicas y diseñar un producto que le permitiese brindar servicios a sus huéspedes a través de una gestión que sigue lineamientos de Responsabilidad Social Empresaria, preservando recursos ambientales y culturales para las generaciones futuras. del programa de Ecoetiquetado de Hotelería Sustentable de la República Argentina, además de otros premios y reconocimientos por su cultura de responsabilidad social. Tanto las habitaciones como la gastronomía y las actividades recreativas y turísticas tienen un profundo respeto con naturaleza y la comunidad. «Mi Buenos Aires querido», cantaba Carlos Gardel en una letra llena de suspiros por el arrabal de la porteña ciudad. De acuerdo al informe realizado por la agencia de viajes online Despegar.com, esta provincia es la más elegida por los turistas internacionales que podrán conocer un destino con programas que la acercan a una ciudad verde. Algunas de las propuestas incluyen obras de arquitectura sustentable para minimizar el impacto ambiental que las construcciones suelen tener en todas las fases de vida de un edificio. Gastronomía saludable y consumo responsable, movilidad ecológica a través del sistema ecobicis o metrobus. Sobre la Cordillera de los Andes, entre los Pasos Cardenal Samoré y Mamuil Malal, en la provincia de Neuquén, se extienden 5.000 kilómetros cuadrados del primer geoparque argentino nombrado Pillán Mahuiza, que espera ser reconocido por la Unesco. Los geoparques son destinos que cuentan con una gran diversidad geológica y en los que sus comunidades promueven el patrimonio nacional para el desarrollo sostenible de las regiones. Turismo responsable ¿Cómo contribuir? De acuerdo a Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), el viajero puede contribuir positivamente al desarrollo del turismo sostenible, incluso antes de viajar. Algunos tips para, de ahora en más, planificar y emprender unas vacaciones como un activista del turismo responsable: a Buscar destinos con alguna certificación de sostenibilidad. Existen una gran cantidad de acreditaciones que dan fe de las buenas prácticas ecoamigables de hoteles, sitios gastronómicos y circuitos turísticos, entre otros. a Empacar sólo lo necesario. Por ejemplo, antes de una escapada veraniega a la costa solemos comprar un nuevo traje de baño, que sin dudas será necesario, pero podemos prescindir de las etiquetas, precintos o cualquier

What economic, social and environmental consequences can our stay cause? «Every economic activity generates an environmental impact somehow. In this sense, Tourism doesn´t escape from it, yet, what it is intended through the sustainable tourism is that the negative impacts are as minor as possible», Sustainable Tourism assessor and adviser, Marita Cuello points out. Those three foundations are the axis of sustainable tourism and countries must consider them in their agendas in order to protect the biodiversity, cultural patrimony and community development of future generations. «Concerning sustainability, individuals and organizations are used to acting through one of these three reasons: coercion, comparison or conviction. Checking on the origin of the goods we buy will let us guarantee that our money will go directly to the community we are visiting. Otro sitio imperdible es el Cañón del Anchumbil, que está a 8 kilómetros de Villa Unión y que da la bienvenida a los viajeros con gigantes e imponentes formaciones rocosas rojizas que se alzan ya al comenzar el trayecto. Para visitarlo, es necesario contratar una excursión para hacer el recorrido con un guía, con el objetivo de preservar esta belleza natural y cuidar el patrimonio. Tal vez lo más conocido del Departamento Felipe Varela sea el Parque Nacional Talampaya, una imponente reserva natural con valiosos yacimientos arqueológicos y una meca para la paleontología, que fue declarado como Monumento de la Humanidad por la UNESCO. A few kilometers away Along the National Route 76, just 7 kilometers from Villa Unión, there appears the entrance to the small town of Los Palacios, famous and visited for the big quantity of vineyards and producers of craft wine. It is hard to think in other place with so many vineyards and producers in just a few blocks, the inhabitants celebrate the Vino Patero Festival (Foot Pressed Wine Festival). Another must-see is the Anchumbil Cannyon, which is 8 kilometers from Villa Unión and welcomes visitors with gigantic and breathtaking rocky reddish formations that rise at the very beginning of the journey. In order to visit it, it is necessary to arrange an excursion to travel with a guide, with the aim of preserving this natural beauty and taking care of the patrimony. Perhaps the most famous place in the Felipe Varela Department is the Talampaya National Park, an impressive natural reserve with valuable archeological sites and a mecca for paleontologists; it was declared World Heritage of Mankind by the UNESCO. Very close to this, in the Vinchina Department, you can visit the Brava Lagoon, a reserve of flamingos and vicunas, 4,200 meters above sea level, sapphire blue, an excursion that can be performed through tourism agencies from Villa Unión del Talampaya. It is also possible to climb to the Corona del Inca Crater, located more than 500 meters above sea level, it is really worth knowing it. The tour around the west of La Rioja is not complete unless you visit Banda Florida: this town, where the multicolor hills and mountains are witness of the working people´s everyday life, is just a few kilometers away from Villa Unión and across the Bermejo River. Entre las ciudades de Colón y Paysandú hay menos de diez kilómetros de distancia y unos quince minutos de viaje en auto. Playas, termas, palmeras yatay y un puente con historia cimentan la unión de dos patrias, la argentina y la uruguaya, en estos pueblos que invitan a ser visitados.

l Río Uruguay las atraviesa de Norte a Sur e imprime su sello en ambas ciudades. Paysandú y Colón comparten la diversa fauna ictícola, la gastronomía y las características palmeras yatay, que pueblan las dos orillas, detrás de la generosa costa de arenas doradas que espeja la oferta turística para disfrutar de los balnearios y practicar deportes náuticos. Si bien Colón posee unos 25 mil habitantes estables, durante el verano cientos de miles se alojan en sus 20 mil plazas de alojamiento. El Parque Nacional El Palmar, las termas, la pesca deportiva y los deportes de río, su Fiesta de la Artesanía y las playas e islas, proyectan cada día más a Colón como Capital Provincial del Turismo en la Provincia de Entre Ríos. En Paysandú viven unas 90 mil personas. A su perfil industrial se suma también su oferta turística, enfocada en las playas y complejos termales, y en la historia cultural que se conserva en sus edificios religiosos y monumentos históricos, muchos de los cuales son la memoria «heroica» de la ciudad. Además de las coincidencias objetivas que acercan a Colón y Paysandú, hay un trato afectuoso que se brindan colonenses y sanduceros, un permanente ir y venir de una costa a la otra, incluso hasta casi un mismo tono de habla provinciano que confunden al distraído y al foráneo, como signo latente de un hermanamiento que se proyecta y minimiza la distancia. Dos orillas con historia Paysandú surgió a mediados del siglo XVIII, como puerto de embarque de ganado, llegó a ser la segunda ciudad más populosa de la República Oriental del Uruguay en la década de 1920. La ciudad es conocida popularmente como «La Heroica», en honor a su resistencia ante el asedio de fuerzas militares que sitiaron la localidad en tres ocasiones diferentes: 1811 al inicio de la Revolución Oriental, 1846 durante la Guerra Grande y 1864 revuelta del caudillo Venancio Flores. En aquel tiempo, cruzando el río, la ciudad de Colón empezaba a nacer, con la llegada de contingentes de inmigrantes. Aquellos primeros colonos suizos, franceses e italianos se asentaron en la zona con la ayuda del General Justo José de Urquiza, primer presidente de la Confederación Argentina y luego gobernador de Entre Ríos. La llegada de estos contingentes europeos marcaría para siempre la impronta cultural de la región. En inmediaciones de la Colonia San José se consideraba necesaria la fundación de un nuevo asentamiento. «Villa Colón» fue el primer nombre que tuvo en 1863. Cambio de Aire| 27

Vestigios de ese pasado son atractivos turísticos insoslayables que ambas ciudades ofrecen a los visitantes. El Centro Artesanal La Casona, viejo edificio en el que supo alojarse Urquiza por el año 1870, o el tradicional «Molino Forclaz», ubicado en el viejo camino que unía Colón con San José, conforman el patrimonio vivo de Colón. En Paysandú, es inevitable pasar por el Museo Histórico Municipal y la Basílica de Nuestra Señora y San Benito de Palermo, o adentrarse en el «Monumento a la Perpetuidad», antiguo cementerio convertido en monumento histórico nacional, con piezas escultóricas imponentes. El gigante que une El puente Internacional José Gervasio Artigas, con el nombre de uno de los próceres que abogó por la unidad de Sudamérica, oficia precisamente de abrazo que une las dos costas en uno de los tres cruces viales que conectan a la provincia de Entre Ríos con la República Oriental del Uruguay. Tras cinco años de construcción, fue inaugurado el 10 de diciembre de 1975. Desde este gigante vial de patas largas puede apreciarse el Río Uruguay en su inmensidad, abierto, serpenteante y casi infinito. Día a día, su traza aporta conectividad, cooperación comercial y turística, y una hermandad cultural sincera que abre sus brazos a los visitantes. Una propuesta turística que, de la mano de la historia, permite disfrutar de ambos destinos en un mismo viaje.28

Colón and Paysandú

TWO TOWNS LINKED BY THE URUGUAY RIVER Between the cities of Colón and Paysandú there are less than ten kilometers and about fifteen minutes by car. Beaches, thermal springs, Butia Yatay palm trees and a bridge with history cement the union of two homelands: Argentina and Uruguay, two countries that invite to be visited.

The Uruguay River goes from North to South and leaves its seal in both cities. Paysandú and Colón share the varied fish fauna, gastronomy and the typical Yatay palm trees that fill both shores, behind the generous golden sand coast that reflects the tourist offer to enjoy the beaches and do water sports. Although Colón has 25 thousand inhabitants, its 20 thousand accommodation vacancies are occupied by national and foreigner tourists during the summer. The city is known as «La Heroica» («The Heroic»), in honor of its resistance before the siege of military troops that surrounded the place in three different occasions: 1811 at the beginning of the Oriental Revolution, 1846 during the Big War and 1864 commander Venancio Flores riot. At that time, crossing the river, the city of Colón started to be born, with the arrival of immigrants. Those first Swiss, French and Italian colonists settled in the area with the help of the General Justo José de Urquiza, first president of the Argentine Confederation and later governor of Entre Ríos. The foundation of a new settlement was considered necessary in the proximity of San José Colony. «Villa Colón» was the first name it got in 1863. ste año, del 14 de junio al 15 de julio se celebrará el Mundial de Fútbol en Rusia. Su sede principal será la capital, Moscú, una ciudad que guarda tanto para ver que en esta nota no saldremos de la Plaza Roja. Junto con el Kremlin, un bello conjunto arquitectónico de gran importancia histórica y religiosa, ha sido declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco. De ella parten las principales calles en todas direcciones, prolongadas en autopistas hasta las afueras de la ciudad. En ese espacio, considerado el «corazón de Rusia», incluso se hicieron coronar algunos zares. La Plaza Roja: el centro de la vida de Moscú Su nombre no proviene del color de los ladrillos de los edificios y murallas que la circundan, ni tampoco es referencia del rojo asociado al comunismo, sino que deriva de la palabra (Krásnaya), Roja, que en ruso antiguo significaba «bonita», y se usaba para nombrar a la catedral ortodoxa de San Basilio, construida por Iván El Terrible en el siglo XVI, coronada por sus pintorescas cúpulas multicolores en forma de bulbo. La leyenda dice que el zar Iván dejó ciego al arquitecto para evitar que proyectara una construcción que pudiera superarla en belleza. Más allá se encuentran el patíbulo, rodeado de historias sobre ejecuciones, y el monumento a Minin y Pozharsky, dos héroes en la defensa del país de la invasión polaca del siglo XVII. Hay que hacer una larga fila reglamentaria para visitar el mausoleo de Vladímir Ilich Uliánov, mejor conocido como Lenin, donde se expone su cuerpo embalsamado con apariencia de figura de museo de cera, en horizontal. Es un monumento de granito rojo que incorpora algunos elementos de los mausoleos de la antigüedad, como la Pirámide de Zoser en Egipto o la tumba de Ciro el Grande. A ambos lados del mausoleo, en la muralla del Kremlin, están sepultadas grandes figuras de la URSS y relevantes comunistas, desde los primeros obreros y soldados caídos en la Revolución de Octubre (también conocida como Revolución bolchevique), hasta Stalin y muchos de los principales líderes, junto a sus bustos. También el primer cosmonauta, Yuri Gagarin, científicos y hasta un norteamericano, el periodista y escritor John Reed, que escribió el libro Diez días que conmovieron al mundo, una crónica testimonial

Imprescindible la visita guiada a los recintos del Kremlin, que alberga cuatro catedrales y cuatro palacios entre sus murallas y torres junto al río Moscova. Sin salir de la plaza y después de conocer el Museo Estatal de Historia, bien es válido un recorrido por las sofisticadas -y caras- galerías comerciales frente al Kremlin. Los museos subterráneos y un teatro icónico La estación de metro Plóshchad Revolutsii (en ruso: ------------------------, Plaza de la Revolución) es la más cercana a la Plaza. Construida en 1938, es una de las más impresionantes de Moscú: alberga 76 estatuas de bronce en la base de los arcos de la sala de conexiones. espectacular iluminación con lámparas modernistas colgadas del techo. Y para aprovechar el billete, una excursión puede ser visitar las diez estaciones más espectaculares del transporte suburbano. A poca distancia de esta estación majestuosa, está el espectacular teatro Bolshói, inaugurado el 18 de enero de 1825 con la representación de Cenicienta, el ballet del catalán Fernando Sor. La hoz y el martillo soviéticos colgados durante décadas sobre la fachada principal, así como sobre el antiguo palco imperial, han sido reemplazados por el águila bicéfala del escudo original de armas de Rusia. Quien pueda darse el lujo de una doble visita, no debe perderse el recorrido nocturno por la Plaza Roja, con su cuidada iluminación que le confiere una apariencia casi onírica. Tal vez el mundial de fútbol sea la excusa perfecta para elegir viajar a la ciudad de Moscú, pero seguramente después de conocer esta fascinante plaza, no habrá sido la única razón válida para visitarla. -

This year, from June 14th to July 15th, the

2018 FIFA World Cup will be celebrated in Russia. Its main venue will be the capital, Moscow, a city that keeps so much to see that we will not get out of the Red Square in this article. Together with the Kremlin, a beautiful architectural set of great historic and religious importance, it has been declared Mankind Heritage by UNESCO. From this square the main streets leave to all directions connecting highways to the city outskirts. In this place, considered «the heart of Russia», some tsars were crowned. The Red Square: Moscow´s life center Its name neither comes from the pigment of the bricks of the surrounding buildings and big walls nor refers to the link between the red and communism, it rather comes from the word Êðàñíàÿ (Krásnaya), Red, that in old Russian

meant «beautiful», and was applied to call the Orthodox Saint Basil´s Cathedral, built by Ivan The Terrible in the XVI century, crowned by its picturesque multicolor bulb-shaped domes. Legends has it that the tsar Ivan had the architect blinded to prevent him from erecting another building that could exceed its magnificence. A bit further, there is the scaffold, surrounded with stories about executions, and the monument to Minin and Pozharsky, two heroes who defended the country against the Polish invasion in the XVII century. There is an obligatory line to visit Vladímir Ilich Uliánov´s Mausoleum, best known as Lenin, where his mummified body with a wax-figure appearance is horizontally exhibited. It is a monument made from red granite that incorporates some elements from ancient mausoleums, such as the Step Pyramid of Zoser or the Tomb of Cyrus the Great. 34

On both sides of the mausoleum, in the big wall of the Kremlin, there are big figures of the URSS and relevant communists buried, from the first workmen and soldiers who fell during the October Revolution (also known as the Bolshevik Revolution), to Stalin and many of the most important leaders, next to their busts. Furthermore, the first cosmonaut Yurin Gagarin, scientists and even the North American journalist and writer John Reed, who wrote the book «Ten days that shook the world», a testimonial chronicle about the events of the Russian Revolution. The guided visit to the Kremlin is a must; it hosts four cathedrals and four palaces among its towers and big walls overlooking the Moskva River. Without even getting out of the square and after visiting the State Historical Museum, it is really worthy a tour around the sophisticated and very expensive- galleries opposite the Kremlin. The underground museums and an iconic theater The subway station Ploshchad Revolutsii (in Russian: Ïëîùàäü Ðåâîëþöèè, Revolution Square) is the closest to the Square. Built in 1938, it is one of the most impressive in Moscow: it hosts 76 bronze statues

on the base of the arcs of the connection room. Those who like playing with fate, bear in mind: it is said that four of them fulfill wishes. It has a spectacular illumination with modern lamps hanging over the ceiling. And to take advantage of the ticket, visiting the ten most fabulous stations of the underground transportation can be an excursion. Just a short distance away from this majestic station, it is the spectacular theater Bolshói, opened on January 18th, 1825 with Cinderella, the ballet by the Catalan Fernando Sor. The Soviet hammer and sickle hung over the main façade as well as over the old imperial box for many decades have been replaced by the double-headed eagle of the original Russian coat of arms. Those who can afford a double visit mustn t miss the night tour around the Red Square, with its careful lightning that gives it an almost dreamscape look. Perhaps the Football World Cup is the perfect excuse to choose a trip to the city of Moscow; however, and very likely after knowing this fascinating square, it mustn´t be the only reason to visit it. «La música fue la herramienta que guió mi vida»

Sus palabras suenan a prosa y pareciera que canta

cuando habla. Nacida en Corrientes, Teresa Parodi es una de las cantautoras de la música popular más representativas de la Argentina y Latinoamérica, que comenzó su camino al consagrarse en el Festival Nacional de Folklore de Cosquín, en 1984. Desde la creación de su primer gran éxito «Pedro canoero», ha compuesto más de quinientas obras, que fueron cantadas por las voces más importantes de América e incluidas en sus treinta discos editados. La artista habló sobre su último trabajo y aseguró: «Todo lo que tengo es como un balance de mi carrera». -¿Qué te motivó a hacer este disco? -Era algo que quería hacer hace mucho tiempo, ya que siempre tenían más lugar las canciones que los poemas. Se llama Todo lo que tengo porque creo que mi guitarra, los poemas y la música son todo lo que tengo, y eso es mucho. El lenguaje de la música y la poesía son las cosas más importantes que atravesaron mi vida. Fue un trabajo muy arduo y lo pude hacer gracias a la producción musical de Ernesto Snajer y la participación de grandes colegas como Liliana Herrero, Pedro Aznar, 36

Estoy muy feliz de haberle puesto la voz a esta mini antología de las reflexiones maravillosas de algunos seres trascendentales de nuestra historia, como Julio Cortázar, Jorge Luis Borges, Juan Gelman y María Elena Walsh. -¿Cómo definirías a la música? -La música fue la herramienta que guió mi vida. Me crié rodeada de música, mi padre tenía una gran afición por la música clásica y me fomentó ese amor desde el primer momento en que se dio cuenta que yo tenía oído, cuando mi abuela Emilia me regaló una guitarra y la afiné sola, sin que nadie me enseñara. Mi primer maestro, que tuve a los 9 años, me dijo «la música es toda tuya». A mí me pareció mucho, pero tenía razón, porque la música es toda nuestra, siempre y cuando nos lleve a algún lugar, es un lenguaje extraordinario. Siempre pienso que en la escuela debería enseñarse, en paralelo con el lenguaje de la palabra, el lenguaje musical porque, aunque algunos puedan tener más oído que otros, todos podrían desarrollarse musicalmente.

-Tenés una faceta docente -Enseñé muchos años en Corrientes y fue una experiencia enriquecedora, maravillosa. Me costó mucho dejar la profesión, pero la docencia te pide todo, y la música también, entonces, hubo un momento en que tuve que elegir, y elegí la música. Creo que, desde las canciones, uno puede contar realidades, no digo enseñar, pero sí mostrar nuestra diversidad cultural, dejar retratos cantados, historias que nos acercan a otros que miran a un mismo país y desde un mismo paisaje. Siempre intenté trabajar bien profundo para que, con cada palabra, el público pueda ver lo que estoy cantando. -Compartiste escenarios con grandes artistas, ¿quién te marcó? -Mercedes Sosa, sin dudas. De hecho, creo que nos sigue marcando a todos. Marcó un camino, una manera de ver la canción, una manera única de compartir el escenario, porque te abría las puertas del escenario como si fuera su casa, porque, al fin y al cabo, lo era. Si tenías algo que decir, era el mejor lugar, ella te empujaba a cantar, te entregaba el micrófono y, así, aprendimos a compartir la música, como un milagro. Mercedes era consciente de su talento como intérprete y puso su voz maravillosa al servicio de un gran repertorio argentino y latinoamericano, para que volara al mundo. También fue un honor que Alfredo Zitarrosa cante mis canciones, aprender su manejo del lenguaje de la palabra y de la música. Muchos artistas

Esos jóvenes se están formando siendo conscientes de la herencia que reciben y del camino a seguir en la música popular, que no es pasatista ni mediática. Me apasiona que organicen sus propios movimientos porque el mercado no les da lugar. Es algo extraordinario, siempre ha pasado y es un proceso que no se va a poder detener jamás.-

Her words sound like prose and it seemed that she sings when speaking. Born in Corrientes, Teresa Parodi is one of the most representative singer songwriter of popular music in Argentina and Latin America. She started her career at the National Folk Fest of Cosquín, in 1984. From the creation of her first hit «Pedro canoero», she has composed more than 500 songs, which were interpreted by the most important voices of America and included in her thirty records edited. The artist talked about her last work and assured: «All I have is like an evaluation of my career». -What motivated you to make this record? -It was something that I wanted to do a long time ago, since the songs were always before the poems. It is called Todo lo que tengo (All I have) because I think that my guitar, the poems and music are all I have, and that is a lot. The language of music and poetry are the most important things that went through my life. It was such a hard work and I could do it thanks to the musical production of Ernesto Snajer and the participation of great colleagues such as Liliana Herrero, Pedro Aznar, Chango Spasiuk, Luciana Jury, Nadia Larcher, Miss Bolivia, Juan Quintero and el Negro Aguirre. I am very happy for having given my voice to this tiny anthology of the wonderful reflections by some significant beings of our history like Julio Cortázar, Jorge Luis Borges, Juan Gelman and María Elena Walsh. -How would you define music? -Music was the tool that guided my life. I was raised surrounded by music, my father was very fond of classical music and transmitted that love from the very moment he realized I had a good ear for music, when my grandmother gave me a guitar and I tuned it by myself, without being told how to do so. At the age of 9, my first teacher told me «music is all yours». It seemed a lot to me, but he was right, because music is all ours, as long as it takes us somewhere, it is an extraordinary language. I have always thought that school should teach the language of words in parallel with the language of sounds because, although some students may have a better ear than others, everyone could develop musical skills. 38

-You have a facet as a teacher -I taught for many years in Corrientes and it was such a wonderful and enriching experience. It was very difficult for me to quit the profession, but teaching demands it all, and music does it too, so there was a moment that I had to choose, and I opted for music. I believe that one can tell realities through songs, I don´t mean to teach, but to show our cultural diversity, leave portraits sung, stories that approach others to look at one country and from the same landscape. I have always tried to work deeply so that the audience can see what I am singing, with every word of mine. -You shared stages with great artists, who left the most marks on you? -Mercedes Sosa, undoubtedly. In fact, I think she is still leaving marks on us. She marked a path, a way of seeing songs, a unique way of sharing stages, since she opened the stage doors as if it was her house, because, in the end, it was. If you had something to say, it was the best place, she pushed you to sing, she gave you the microphone and, thus, we learnt to share music, like a miracle. Mercedes was aware of her talent as an interpreter and gave her wonderful voice to the service of a huge Argentine and Latin American repertoire, so it could fly to the world. It was also an honor that Alfredo Zitarrosa sang my songs, to learn his songs and the management of words and music. Many artists left an indelible mark in my life and that is the mark I want to keep on walking through. -How do you see the new generations? -I am very proud of the new Argentine musicians, who come from many universities and popular music schools, run by big artists such as Juan Falú. Those young people are being formed conscious of the heritage they got and of the way to follow in popular music, which is neither superficial nor driven by mass media. I am thrilled when they organize their own movements because the market doesn´t give them the space. It is something extraordinary, it has always happened and it is a process that won´t ever stop.-

DAYS INN ARRIVED IN ARGENTINA The brand «Days Inn» arrived in Argentina with the opening of the first international hotel in the city of La Plata.
