Mark has in his curriculum dozens of monumental projects, such as Beijing Airport (China), St. Paul’s Cathedral (United Kingdom), In Lumine Tuo (Utrecht) Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Mosque (United Arab Emirates), The Macallan Distillery (Scotland), and Barangaroo (Australia) among many others. He has worked and lectured extensively worldwide, including in the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, the United States, South America and Australia. He is the co-creator of the educational project called ‘Made of Light the Art of Light and Architecture’. In this exclusive interview, this Lighting Architect, a reference and inspiration for all professionals in the lighting industry, tells us a little about his history; the difficulties he has faced during the decades designing lighting; the main projects he has done; how to make a good lighting project and how to become a quality lighting designer. He also talks about the advancement of lighting technologies; the issue of light pollution and the impact of light on human health; changes in specifications during construction, among many other subjects. Lume Arquitetura: In the 20th-anniversary edition of Lume Arquitetura, we oured to interview one of the founders Speirs Major. Tell us a little bit about story of decades dedicated to Mark Major: came into independent lighting design from architecture. an architect, as was my late Jonathan Speirs. We met in Edinburgh, Scotland, in the 1980s. Jonathan already finished training as an architect and started in lighting design.
