CONVERSATION ON THE METHOD
It really started with some of the bands we interviewed in previous issues, for each band I usually look at their videos a lot and I have often come across a kind of high quality psychedelic video that used to draw my attention in such a way that I decided to connect And have a conversation with owner Sean Laffan (owner and producer on Psychoactiv).More than anything I was interested in how the contact between band and Psychoactiv is made. And of this we speak.
software i was no longer choosing my own songs to work with now bands where finding me and sending me songs in the hope i could make something for them and thats how i have worked ever since.
The way to choose the songs and how they work. Normally the band will send me the songs they choose themselves, i will then listen to the song and if i like what i hear and i think the subscribers to my channel will like it also then i will agree to make a video, i will then listen to the song repeatedly, until i get a clear idea in my mind what kind of visuals will match the tempo and the mood of that song. I also keep in my mind how the video will look if it is used in projection on a stage or in a club, then i will source any clips that match my ideas and with the software i use i will upload what i have then start mixing and adding colours and effects until i see some magic, thats how i make all my clips. I have to feel the music im listening to thats the important thing for me, if i can feel it then making videos is easy for me if i dont feel the song then its impossible to think of ideas.
And then you sent the video to those bands? And has anyone asked you to make another video? yes bands ask me all the time now if i'm interested in making more, if you look on my channel you will see the last 2 years the same bands or record labels appear more frequently.
Who is back of Psychoactiv? When born this project? Just me my name is Sean Laffan and i started uploading songs that i was listening to but could not find them songs anywhere online and i wanted to post these songs on social media sites, this was back in 2012 and at first it was the song and the album cover as a visual, i then started playing about with the windows movie maker and enjoyed mixing film and music and made around 20 videos before someone messaged me one day and told me my ideas where brilliant and that they would like to give me the sony vegas editing software because they thought my ideas where too good for the basic windows software i was using, once i learned how to use that software then the videos became very colourful and the perfect visuals for the type of music i wanted to work with and after my first 5 or 6 videos using the new
Did you happen to find a song and have not been given permission to make a video? Oh yes! There are quite a lot of songs i uploaded in the first two years on my channel that i didn't have permission to.
We have interviewed several bands that you have made videos to, Relax Ranch, The Cult of Free Love, The Junkyard Liberty. All of the same Label. Have you received proposals from record labels to work with your artists? Yes. Which videos do you like most? My favourite of all is The cult of free love daya jeva though there are a few others I think are just as good as that one. Is there any video that you, once finished, thought "could have done it differently"? Of course i'm never 100% satisfied with any I make I always think I could have done this better or that better but stramge thing a lot of the times I finish one i've thought that one may have been better used for other songs. Have you rejected works because you did not like the songs? Yes lots of songs I didnt like. If I feel that it doesnt match the rest of my videos either because the genre is not rights or I dont like the song then I will not make the video, though I have made a few videos for people who are friends but told them to upload it to their own channels.

How many videos do you currently have? Not sure exactly them amount of videos made but its around 240 videos i’ve made in 4 years
compared to previous years? I think yes! 2016 has been the most productive year.
What are you currently working on? I’m working on two new singles at the moment one for the Spanish band GDDLF and the other is Australian band Luna Ghost which should be released very soon.
In this last month, have they sent you many songs? And in this last month i was sent 6 songs in total which is about the average amount for all months.
Has the number of videos made in 2016 increased
