This nickname was due to the intense red color of its exterior decoration, together with

their features yellow stripes on the sides, front and roof area, as well as the shape of their body, similar to the magnificent 440 series units, “the blues “, from which derived almost at 100% both mechanically and electro, but with the roof on high, as they were equipped with air conditioning. Many travelers began to call them “Long distance” by these great “similar”.

TESTS

Locomotive 130 DR AUTHOR: ENRIQUE DOPICO

Recently we tested in our magazine the PIKO V200 DB locomotive, which enabled us to discover a wonderful model at a reduced price. For that reason we wanted to test the latest model introduced by PIKO: the locomotive V 130 DR. Known among fans as “Ludmilla is one of the icons in the old DR, a railway myth. Foto P. Wormald

TESTS

The locomotives of the DR 130 series were produced in the Soviet Union at its locomotive plant Lugansk (Ukraine) since 1970 as part of an order for locomotives bound for the GDR (German Democratic Republic). These powerful locomotives would serve to increase the speed and loading of passenger and freight trains on its rail network. The rules imposed on countries of the Warsaw Pact prevented the production of this type of locomotive on German soil, so that this country should be provided locomotives outside its borders. A precedent of these locomotives was the V 200 series (later renumbered as 120 series) also of Russian origin and manufactured to the GDR from the model M 62, popularly known as “Taiga Drum (Taigatrommel). These locomotives had no heating for passenger trains and a top speed of 100 km / h, forced the acquisition of more suitable locomotives, these were the 130 series. The new locomotives received since 1970 reached 140 km / h., But still did not have electric heating train, being aimed at pulling freight trains, despite its high speed available. Subsequently a new series of locomotives, numbered BR 131 had a top speed of 100 km / h and higher tractive effort, being more suitable for use in freight trains. From 1972 was could have heated the train locomotives, getting new machines that formed the BR 132 series, limited to 120 km / h, this series being the core of the RDA traction. 17

TESTS

The latest series of locomotives received was available power increased to the 3,940 hp (2,940 kW) and numbered as BR 142. After German reunification these locomotives became the DBAG as 230, 231 232 233 and 234 series, many of them serving today in both state-owned and private operators. The first locomotive of the 130 series was introduced at the fair in Leipzig in 1970, had a 3000 Cv. engine Kolomna 5D49 and with the remaining 79 locomotives that formed this series receive the nickname “Ludmilla. Photo P. Wormald

The first series locomotives BR 130, are characterized by their front windows larger than the later series, along with the front apron of their front ends and different details in the ceiling.

TESTS

Model After meeting its predecessor, the V200 DB, we could not resist trying this new model by PIKO. Located within the Expert range of products of this brand are shared with other models that compose relacción a high quality / price positioning it as a model to keep in mind, whether we want to have our first “Ludmilla “as if we have some other brands, which you can join this new companion. We started with their packaging design simple and equal to that of the lower end models, but serves its purpose, protects the engine while its size eludes occupy unnecessary space. Once out of its packaging, we discovered with joy and satisfaction lack of bags with accessories and elements to be assembled, which for many fans is something you do not like before you tinker with the model, much less if it loses Parts by the track. Thus this is a “ready to run” model.

19

TESTS

At first glance the locomotive love the look although not a fan of “old DR models or who does not know his story background; but its image, aesthetics ... is simply captivating. PIKO has managed to give this model the look and air of 70 that looked unmistakably original. The PIKO Expert range is characterized by its detailed construction, including mounted elemenentos injected and painted to give the model that extra quality that the brand looks and in this case he has. The roof, the part that looks both models, is well reproduced, with an openwork grille in the exhaust, horns and fans well reproduced, side screens include a fine openwork that perfectly simulates the original panel. On cabins the rain gutter part of the image of the locomotive and reproduced perfectly, the detail comes to playing some small ports on the entrances. Driving cabs are the image of this locomotive and here has taken advantage of its design. The large front windows have injected wiper on the glass and painted, while that show the inside of the cabins. On the side windows has reproduced the windshield. All crystal windows and headlights have the frame painted black, detail you do not pass unnoticed.

20

TESTS

The side of the engine and battery cabinets and deposits have a very good level of detail.

The locomotive features reversible white and red lights in the direction, with changing lights on the bottom and white lights on its characteristic central focus. On the front is included the lower rack, and the handrail on the front glass and the lower skirt a brake hoses are insinuated, but better would be a perfect reproduced. The hitch assembly and skirt are with the system mounted on the V200 predecessor, allowing rotation of the joint in curves and maintaining a superb visual appearance of the front. The sides of the locomotive have a perfect finish with the side panel stiffener well reproduced, but especially striking openwork grilles on the side panels, including its different forms. Handrails, door handles and other details give a more quality to the whole. 21

TESTS

The bogies are one of the more detailed parts of the locomotive, equipped with all the elements of suspension and brake perfectly reproduced with a depth of detail that comes from the brake shoes located off the tread through suspension springs up to the brake cylinders, all with a degree of finish higher than three times more expensive locomotives. In each bogie wheel hoop is a bond and their central axes are no tractors, having a lateral movement which enables the inscription in tight curves. Before finishing the outside description we stop at the best and worst model. On the one hand side windows reveal a gray interior, without any detail of the engine room could have been reproduced in relief or painted. The bogies have been detailed with a depth few times and exceptional detail view.

Best: the lateral plate illuminated from within, something that is rarely seen, and never in machines of this price. Inside the locomotive consists of a solid metal chassis that gives the model a proper weight, which provides an exce-

llent towing capacity, running without any problem in tight curves.

Printed circuit board with socket Plux 22 and lights for the side plates.

On the frame is located a printed circuit with PLUX 22 connector that allows a quick digitization of the model, but if we give sound to our locomotive will take a little longer. To provide sound this beautiful locomotive must place the speaker in its reserved space in bottom of the chassis, its two wires go to the circuit board and solder terminals on two contacts provided for this purpose located right next to the outlet cables. PIKO offers for this locomotive the ESU decoder Ref.56340 endowed with a magnificent reproduction of the original sound.

23

TESTS

To install the digital decoder with sound first must place the speaker in its housing provided at the bottom of the chassis. Once past the speaker wires to printed circuit board terminals must be welded to the plate in the same place. You just need to remove the dummy circuit board and connect the sound decoder.

The side plates are illuminated with the main focus, providing quality detail rarely seen.

PIKO offers Loksound ESU decoder reference 56340 with the actual sounds of the locomotive and truly deafening volume. The painting of the model is the same height, with solid colors and well defined, with perfect color separation, small and legible lettering, just the bogies made in unpainted gray is somewhat below the gorgeous look General locomotive. 24

TESTS

The top of the chassis is covered by a printed circuit board that covers a powerful motor with a flywheel. The PLUX 22 socket PCB allows quick connection of a digital decoder, it will not be as fast digitization is sound. To do that, turn the speaker into position under the frame and move the two wires to the top of the printed circuit board. Right next to the outlet there are two small spot welds where weld these two cables. For this model PIKO offers Loksound decoder from ESU reference 56340 which reproduces exceptional sound that fills in quality and on The 22 Functions of the decoder are activated depending on whether the locomotive stop is or circulating, reproducing the engine sound perfectly realistic.
