meditations for an everyday relationship with Jesus
Rumors are deadly
Nehemiah 6:8-9 Then I replied to him, "There is nothing to these rumors you are spreading; you are inventing them in your own mind." For they were all trying to intimidate us, saying, "They will become discouraged in the work, and it will never be finished." But now, [my God,] strengthen me.

Rumors are deadly … often more deadly than any truth. Rumors are meant to intimidate and to discourage. The Devil knows this and tempts us to say things we cannot prove. He hopes that the pleasure taken in spreading lies will get someone hurt and hurt badly. Therefore, it is always better to say nothing negative; but if you do (and we all do) you had better be able to back it up with facts. Otherwise, you will be the one losing credibility, and not the target of the rumor mill.
As with Nehemiah a rumor is never meant to edify. In this particular case it was hoped that the publicity of false information would shut down the work of rebuilding the Jerusalem wall. Nehemiah sought God’s strength and ignored the rumors.
The wall was completed in 52 days without gaps and with new gates.
Why do I feel this way?
Psalm 42:5 Why am I so depressed? Why this turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will still praise Him, my Savior and my God.
the voice God gave me
Sometimes life is depressing. It’s just the way it is. Things happen to us or those we love. We try to do too much; time gets away from us, and there isn’t enough of it in the day, etc. This isn’t clinical depression, it is simply depressing at the time, and is a normal response to frustration and disappointment. You do not need psych meds for this!
However, there is nothing wrong with the right medication in the right dosage. God gives us all of the people and places and things to live a full, healthy and abundant life. If you need prayer, seek prayer; if you need medication, seek out a reputable physician or psychiatrist. Do not be ashamed, be healed in the name of Jesus.
