meditations for an everyday relationship with Jesus
Who can bring me down?
Obadiah1:2-4 Look, I will make you insignificant among the nations; you will be deeply despised. Your presumptuous heart has deceived you, you who live in clefts of the rock in your home on the heights, who say to yourself: Who can bring me down to the ground? Though you seem to soar like an eagle and make your nest among the stars, even from there I will bring you down.

God can bring us down if He sees a purpose in it. The purpose in this case concerns the Edomites, descendants of Esau, and enemy of Israel and Judah. An enemy of God’s people is an enemy of God. He is a protector with broad wings, sharp talons, and a mighty presence.
If He has a will He can …
Make [you] insignificant among nations; Make [you] deeply despised; Convict [your] presumptuous heart; and He will bring [you] low.
Praise our protector God.
An Unknown God
Acts17:22–23 Then Paul stood in the middle of the Areopagus and said: "Men of Athens! I see that you are extremely religious in every respect. For as I was passing through and observing the objects of your worship, I even found an altar on which was inscribed: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, what you worship in ignorance, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it He is Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in shrines made by hands.
Their unknown God was made known to them. To their credit, the Greeks and Romans were open to a plethora of gods and goddesses. In this way it provided an entre for Paul; however, adding a god was far easier than taking away a god.
Today we face the same ancient problem: which gods do we put aside?
The answer is simple and sure: We put aside all gods and goddesses except our One God Yahweh. Worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Why is this an unpopular solution when it seems so obvious? Undoubtedly, because we have invested so much of ourselves and our resources in the idols we worship… our gods are people places and things which give us temporary pleasure and temporary comfort. We live in a microwave world. Belief and commitment are so “old school.”
