Peaceable kingdom

1 Kings 8:53 For You, Lord God, have set them apart as Your inheritance from all the people on earth, as You spoke through Your servant Moses when You brought their ancestors out of Egypt.

As Christ followers we are also grafted into this same vine which is Israel. We are not Jewish, but we have the same rights and privileges in the name of Jesus. Therefore, in Him we have been set apart and our inheritance awaits … we are different than any other peoples on the earth: God desires us and He is jealous for us. We are loved in ways indescribable.

And, oh yes, we are God’s inheritance, too. Isn’t that amazing! We are not only heirs to the kingdom, we are an inheritance. Our peculiar status in etched in stone: we are the property of Yahweh, The Most High God.

We think we have heard it all, and have read it all, until it dawns on us in the Spirit one morning that we really are blessed in fundamentally different ways than anyone else on the planet … or any planet for that matter.

We are God’s own!

meditations for an everyday relationship with Jesus

Clouds are the dust

Nahum 1:2-3 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God; the Lord takes vengeance and is fierce in wrath. The Lord takes vengeance against His foes; He is furious with His enemies. The Lord is slow to anger but great in power; the Lord will never leave [the guilty] unpunished. His path is in the whirlwind and storm, and clouds are the dust beneath His feet.

God is so vast and He is so mighty that even the clouds are mere dust beneath His feet. Obviously this is a metaphor, but not far from the truth … though the truth is much more grandiose, and far mightier, than mere words can describe. Worlds themselves are His footstools, and universes provide barely enough room for Him to stretch out.

We serve a mighty big God!

Planning and doing

Isaiah 46:11 I call a bird of prey from the east, a man for My purpose from a far country. Yes, I have spoken; so I will also bring it about. I have planned it; I will also do it.

Our God is not an idle God nor is He frivolous. He is not anxious nor is He thwarted.

What God has planned He will do. We must be faithful and believe that what He has prophesied He will fulfill in ways that glorify the Son. If we are faithful, and the Son is glorified, then it is right that we should expect our journeys to line up in ways that prosper us, bear fruit, and lead us out of our wilderness places and into the land of Canaan … into a land of milk and honey.
