This design concept seamlessly blends the allure of luxury with the inviting embrace of comfort. By skillfully combining elements such as glass, metal, granite, and wood, it creates a harmonious balance between sleek sophistication and cozy warmth. The interplay of these materials in this design concept creates a captivating juxtaposition between glossy surfaces and natural textures, between modern luxury and rustic charm. The shiny glass and metal elements reflect light, creating a play of reflections and enhancing the visual depth of the space. At the same time, the warm wood provides a sense of tactility and a connection to nature, instilling a feeling of comfort and serenity. This design concept thrives on the careful balance between these contrasting elements. It allows the sleekness and elegance of glass, metal, and granite to coexist harmoniously with the inviting and comforting nature of wood. The result is a luxurious yet inviting interior that exudes style, sophistication, and a timeless appeal. 11

Abstract The Initiation of MSME Mall by the Government of Malang City is aimed to exhibiting and introducing MSME’s products to the wider community. Product identity that still needs to be introduced, requires a crowd catalyst to increase product exposure, so that the aims of the MSME Mall can be escalated. With the understanding of separateness between space and activity (disjunction), it is possible that the initial intention of a space (MSME Mall’s aim) can be escalated by the presence of other activities that works as a crowd catalyst. Merdeka Malang Square, which is positioned as a source of crowds, makes activities that are complementary to the square as a crowd catalyst activity for MSME Mall. These complementary activities are cycling and buying food. By presenting these complementary activities, indirectly making the mall as an extension of the square. With the presence of the crowd catalyst activity, that is cycling and buying food, which is take place in the bicycle track and cafeteria inside the design object, making the MSME Mall program combined with the bicycle track and cafeteria program. Combining the three programs is the design problem in this MSME Mall design. So, the transprogramming approach is used to understand that the space elements of mall, bicycle track and cafeteria can be combined regardless of the spatial incompatibility between them. Then with the superimposition method, these incompatibilities can be separated into independent elements and then can be put together and the spatial conflicts within them can be adjusted. With the transprogramming approach and superimposition method, the design problem can be resolved and the aims of the MSME Mall to introducing and exhibiting MSME’s product can be escalated. 29

The design object has a coherent sequence from the bottom to the top of the design. In each segment of the sequence, there are four consistent elements present, namely the bike track, pedestrian walkway, grass, and railing.
The railing starts from the connecting bridge, extends to the Mall area, and protects each outer and inner side of the floors up to the top floor of the design object. The exterior side of the railing is made of exposed concrete material, while the interior side of the void area uses wood material.
Railing
The grass starts from the town square grass, continues to the connecting bridge, then to the inner side of the Mall's void area, up to the top floor of the design object. The grass in the outdoor space is natural grass, while the grass in the indoor space is artificial grass.
Grass
The pedestrian walkway starts from the town square pathway, continues to the connecting bridge, and goes through each floor up to the top floor of the design object. The pedestrian walkway passes through escalators and stairs in the central void area of the design object.
Walkway
The bicycle track starts from the bicycle lane surrounding the town square, continues to the connecting bridge, and then extends to each floor up to the top floor of the design object.
Cycling track
The bicycle track utilizes rubber material for a good grip for bicycle wheels. With this performance, it not only serves as a pathway for bicycles but also for other environmentally friendly personal transportation devices such as skateboards, segways, scooters, rollerblades, hoverboards, and more.

Crafting home with memories

A dwelling with the client's childhood memories as the main concept of the design. The client's childhood memories of waking up in their grandmother's room have been reinterpreted and recreated in their current home. The play of morning sunlight beams, penetrating through the woven bamboo walls, is recreated with large east-facing openings layered with ulin wood grids. The scent of damp earth in the morning and the natural aroma of bamboo walls are revived through a spacious garden in front of the room and the use of unfinished natural wood materials. The trickling of water on the bamboo walls during rain is recreated with short water features and ulin wood grids in front of the room. Several other elements also contribute to the foundation of the design.

Design Concept and Objectives (client brief) The childhood memories of the client waking up in their grandmother's room, which left a deep impression, are reinterpreted and recreated in their current home. The illustration below provides an overview of the conditions and ambiance of the grandmother's room in the past, which is then analyzed and interpreted into architectural elements in their new residence.
Morning light filtering through the gaps in the bamboo walls [room direction, openings, wooden grid] Morning breeze flowing through the gaps in the bamboo walls [room direction, openings, wooden grid] Sounds of morning activities seeping through the gaps in the bamboo walls [room position, openings] Rainwater seeping through the bamboo walls [roof, walls, wooden grid] Earthy scent near the bed touched by rainwater [room position, garden, roof] Natural scents of bamboo, wood, and raw stone from the walls and floor of the room [raw materials: wood, bamboo, concrete]
