Dear Visitor, Welcome to the inaugural Seaside Summer series at the North Beach Bandshell. The arts have always played an integral role in the development and growth of Miami Beach, and their success and prosperity are central to our international reputation as a cultural hub. This month-long performing arts celebration showcases the best of Miami Beach and is further proof that our city is a year-round arts and culture destination and worth visiting during any season. This Seaside Summer series will feature performances by artists that run the gamut – like Julian Marley, the Miami Classical Music Festival, the Miami Hispanic Ballet, and more. The work done by the Rhythm Foundation to orchestrate this is nothing short of exemplary and demonstrates their dedication to providing our residents with a steady and varied menu of highquality performances. North Beach’s diversity is instrumental to the character of our community, and its rich history is a key part of the fabric of our city. Initiatives like this one, and the work done by the Rhythm Foundation at the North Beach Bandshell, are helping democratize the arts, revitalize this neighborhood, and ensure that everyone in the community has access to high-quality cultural experiences. So thanks for joining us. Enjoy the Seaside Summer series, and all that North Beach and our City have to offer. Sincerely,

MIAMI SALSA, TIMBA AND CHANGÜI HEAVYWEIGHTS BATTLE Timbalive burst onto South Florida's music scene in 2008, led by timbales player Leo Garcia, offering the best Cuban music with an extra touch of international rhythm. Members of the entire 10‐piece band are all highly trained musicians from Cuba’s most prestigious music schools, and represent some of the island’s best loved groups. Timbalive have collaborated with giants from the Latin music scene, toured the world, and now hope their hit songs, including “El Dinero,” Ave Maria, Que Calor,”, and “Como Miami No Hay Na,” will propel them to win this salsa battle! The success of sparkling high‐voltage band N'Taya’s last two critically acclaimed albums is a testament that Cuban music is alive and thriving in Miami. N’Taya, led by singer Nick “N’Taya” Martinez, channels the spirit of classic timba and changüi to a new generation of salsa lovers. Changüí ‐ the predecessor of son montuno, a musical ancestor of modern salsa ‐ was born in Cuba’s eastern Guantanamo prov‐ ince in the early 19th century. It is a musical meeting of African rhythms and per‐ cussion with Spanish cancion and guitar. Timba building on this Afro‐Cuban folkloric base, adding salsa and funk and a powerful rhythm section.
Two popular salsa groups, the city's best dancers, and a competition where everyone wins. Orchestra Miami celebrates Argentina’s Independence Day and honors the 100th anniversary of the legendary tango composer Astor Piazzolla with an orchestral performance featuring special guests. The 24‐member orchestra will be joined by guitar & vocal duo Rosa Incaica, and Bandoneón master David Alsina, both direct from Buenos Aires, and guest conductor Andrés Cárdenes. Orchestra Miami’s tribute begins with Piazzolla’s Libertango, a statement of “nuevo tango” (the name fuses the words “libertad” [liberty] with tango, symbolizing the break from traditional tango to nuevo tango) in an arrangement by Thomas Kalb. Bandoneónista David Alsina joins guitarist Pablo González Jazey in the Double Con‐ certo for Bandoneón and Guitar, followed by David Alsina’s arrangement of Histo‐ ire du Tango, for Bandoneón, Guitar and bass. Following intermission, vocalist Annelise Skovmand joins Pablo González Jazey and the orchestra for a selection of Piazzolla’s most recognizable tangos. Maestro Andrés Cárdenes leads Orchestra Miami in this unforgettable evening. David Alsina, bandoneon player, composer, arranger, and director of tango bands and chamber music groups; native of Buenos Aires, started performing at the age of eight; composed over 100 original songs, and the score for five independent films. David has been performing with the Miami City Ballet as bandoneon soloist with sym‐ phonic and philharmonic orchestras for more than 10 years, and has accompany many well‐known Latin music stars. Duo Rosa Incaica take audiences on a musical journey through Argentina and Latin America with their unique interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk songs. The group's musical expe‐ dition combines repertoire rooted in the folk tradition, including original compositions, with arrangements that broach the classical chamber music world. A consummate musician, powerful presence and master programmer, Andrés Cárdenes has established himself as a conductor possessing all the essentials of a modern maestro. He currently serves as Music Direc‐ tor of Strings Festival Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Festival Orchestra.

FLAMENCO SEPHARDIT VIII
Maestro Jeffrey Eckstein and Siempre Flamenco announce the 8th annual Fla‐ menco Sephardit. The show explores the connection between Ladino and Fla‐ menco music, two distinct cultures born in Spain. Ladino, songs composed by Jews exiled during the Spanish Inquisition in their adopted homelands, uses the Spanish langauge of the 1400s. Similarly, Flamenco emerged from the cries and sufferings of the Moors, Gypsies, and Jews after they were banned during the Inquisition. Fla‐ menco Sephardit explores similarities and differences in these two cultures. The producers are thrilled to welcome back Flamenco stars Jose Moreno & Jose Junco, and opera star Audrey Babcock to the cast. The cast also features vocalists Rabbi Marc Philippe and Paco Fonta, dancer Celia Fonta, guitarists Paco Fonta and Michel Gonzalez, cellist Chava Appiah and violinist Katherine Kobylarz. “The message of Flamenco Sephardit has always been to bring people of diverse cultures and religions together, to remind us that we all have similar origins, and therefore should live together in peace,” says Maestro Eckstein. 6PM Film // 7PM Show // Tickets $20 ‐ $45. Now live audiences are back to the Bandshell, and we also still provide the show online for viewers everywhere, every Third Thursday October to July. MIMO WEEKEND SUN. JULY 18 In the years following World War II, a form of design came into being that was in‐ novative in its approach to resort area architecture. Designers such as Morris Lapi‐ dus, Norman Giller and Igor Polevitzky combined elements of the International and Bauhaus styles with a touch of whimsical fantasy to create what is now known as “Miami Modern” or “MiMO.” The term adds a local emphasis to “MidCentury Modern” style. Characterized by pylons, marine imagery, sweeping curves, catwalks, and open courts, it is loved for being glamorous, fun and exuberant. Miami Beach’s North Beach is home to two neighborhoods on the National Historic District Register, as well as four others with local designation. The MiMo architecture of North Beach complements South Beach’s renown Art Deco district, making our city a Mecca for architecture buffs. Miami Design Preservation League celebrates these treasures and welcomes the opportunity to showcase our city to the world. The North Beach Bandshell, designed by Giller in 1961, is one of the jewels of the MiMo district. Historians have described the Bandshell as ‘a futuristic take on a Roman amphitheater.’ Get to know more about MiMo architecture and the unique North Beach neigh‐ borhood during this celebration of all things mid‐century Miami Beach!

BOY PABLO
Boy Pablo makes his Miami debut at the Bandshell, before heading off to play Lollapalooza, presented by Rhythm Foundation and Escala Sonora. So who is Boy Pablo? Boy Pablo is the artistic project of 21‐year‐old Chi‐ lean‐Norwegian singer‐songwriter and multi‐instrumentalist Nicolas Muñoz. His project first came to widespread attention with the video for his viral 2017 single, “Everytime" ‐ an offbeat, lo‐fi video that shined like a hidden diamond in the rough of the internet. Since then, he’s honed his brand of woozily romantic indie‐pop and in 2020 released his debut full‐ length 'Wachito Rico,' a jangly, retro‐pop sound with sun‐kissed 60s melodies. Named by Pitchfork as one of the hottest new indie up‐and‐ comers of the planet, he is joined on stage by four best friends, taking ev‐ eryone on an energetic and lyrical journey to the land of indie pop rock.
Opening set by Vanessa Zamora, Mexican singer, songwriter, producer and multi‐instrumentalist, ori‐ginally from Tijuana. Her music is a journey through the less‐explored sides of pop, guided by the eclectic and the psychedelic. Her velvety voice supports melodies that confront the truth of her emotions, in an enveloping soundscape — one of the strongest, most proming young artists today. 8PM, Tickets $30‐$45. NorthBeachBandshell.com
This show kicks off the Escala Sonora series, produced in partnership with Mishu, who last brought their epic House of Creatives Music Festival (HOC Fest) to the Bandshell, featuring artists like The Flaming Lips, Crystal Castles, and Cold War Kids. Escala Sonora aims to bring the most dynamic new Latin artists to Miami, opening up the boundaries of Latin indie and alternative music.
Who can resist the pulsating drums and joy‐ ous melodies of Bahia? One of carnival’s biggest stars brings the vibe of Brazilian summer to the North Beach Bandshell ‐ Xanddy (pronounced SHUN‐GEE) is the charismatic lead singer of the popular band Harmonia do Samba, a staple of carnival in Salvador since the 1990’s.

With Harmonia do Samba, Xanddy introduced the genre of “pagode baiano”, a style of samba with the flair and humor of Bahia. The band topped the charts in Brazil with dozens of hits and attracts thousands of revelers each year to their “bloco”, the massive carnival parades in Sal‐ vador, Bahia. The concert “Xanddy Samba & Summer” is a new solo project featuring many of those classic hits as well as a mix of reinter‐ pretations of iconic Brazilian party songs, all with the joy and rhythm that only Xanddy and his powerful band can deliver.

JULIAN MARLEY
JUL 31
Born in London, Julian Marley is the son of reggae legend Bob Marley and Barba‐ dos‐born Lucy Pounder. Growing up as a youth in a musical atmosphere, the Grammy Award Nominated roots‐reggae musician, singer‐songwriter, producer and humanitarian quickly adopted a musical lifestyle at an early age and became a skillful, self‐taught musician mastering the bass, drums, guitar and keyboards. During Julian’s formative years in Jamaica, he began to study under legendary reg‐ gae veterans such as Aston “Family Man” Barrett, Carlton Barrett, Earl “Wire” Lindo, Tyrone Downie and Earl “Chinna” Smith, all of whom inspired the then fled‐ gling song‐bird. Since releasing his debut album in 1996, Marley has continued to tour and record, with his own band, and in collaboration with family and reggae legends — always clearly reflecting his roots and heritage. In the same tradition as his father, Julian is a devout Rastafarian whose music is inspired by life and spirituality. And while Julian has built a formidable reputation by transcending mu sical genres, we can be sure that all future endeavors that the music visionary embarks on will remain spiritual, moral and with a global mission. Julian notes, “I don’t plan the next step, I just continue on with Jah Works and somehow things seem to just come together naturally that way.”
