ncouraging youth to paddle has always been a strong directive and passion of mine. Thankfully the club, along with a few dedicated members, share the same commitment towards encouraging a younger generation to get out on the water. Since August, 18 dedicated young paddlers (aged 12 to 17) have been training every Saturday to learn the sport of dragon boat towards competing in a local race scheduled for September. Sadly, this race did not go ahead. Despite the unfortunate news I was able to coordinate an invitational training session with the U18 Lamma Dragons on Middle Island. Our friends from Lamma were just as keen to come out and enjoy some fierce time on the water against the Royal X Juniors.
