Welcome to Canadian Sustainable Buildings Magazine (Formerly EP&C magazine) About Canadian Sustainable Buildings (CSB) Magazine Buildings have a tremendous impact on our national environmental footprint. It is estimated that in the next 25 years, commercial space will double in Canada. This has far-reaching implications to today’s built environment. Managing and optimizing a real estate portfolio may be one of the greatest challenges faced by asset and facility managers going forward. Financial risk related to carbon policy, competitiveness and marketability are among the dimensions of these challenges as new codes and standards raise the performance of new building stock. When we launched EP&C Magazine in 2007, our primary focus as the name implies, was the demand and supply side of the energy-related decisions facing Canadian business. The strategic management of resources including energy is an important operational activity but just one ingredient of the building lifecycle. And while we will continue to devote editorial pages to these important areas, they are but two elements of sustainable business practices that affect facility owners and managers who are increasingly challenged to maximize return on investment while managing these new business risks. These issues are all fundamentally connected and no businesses will be untouched. Across the supply chain from equipment manufacturers, to service providers, to facility developers and managers, responding to needs of this rapidly evolving business climate is a business imperative. Sustainability is the manifestation of this new global market reality. In our new format as Canadian Sustainable Buildings (CSB), we will present and explore issues of building lifecycle management, showcasing market successes, acknowledging innovation and leadership, and providing you the with a broad perspective to make informed decisions about the business of constructing and managing sustainable buildings. Constantine (Taki) Eliadis, Publisher
