As the symbol of Biennale Aravena chose a picture by Bruce Chatwin of a lady climbing some stairs in the middle of nowhere. “What does the woman see from the stairs she climbed? - Baratta ponders - a desolate land made of huge and awful human inhabited areas, truly disappointing realizations

that represent a sad infinite number of lost occasions for the acumen of human civilization; many tragic contexts that show the disappearance of architecture. But she also spots signals of a creative ability and results that bring hope, and she sees them now, not in the future.”

Architecture means space designing. The way we configure our environment, from the furnishing of our rooms

to the city, is one of the major issues that influences our lives. Therefore spatial design becomes of great importance since the success of political

fanzine - since it doesn’t follow commercial logic you can take it for free and attach it wherever you prefer. Read the topics and look at the images. They are related and simple to understand: to be as democratic as possible we will not use technical terms and we will talk about common interest topics. Spread the content and help us increase awareness.

Aravena’s Biennale refers to, architecture debate should no more be focused on formal styles but on its huge power to shape human destiny. Architecture makes the difference and it is necessary to have a higher consideration of its role on combining private interests and public consequences.

We must assert the importance of design for the sake of democracy in our society!

Making architecture means making politics.

We chose the manifesto as a means of communication because of its boldness.

2016 Venice Architecture Biennale has been a turning point on the debate our fanzine is helping to raise. As declared by the art director Alejandro Aravena: “as architects we need to talk to a wide public, to all the possible actors responsible of choices and actions that shape the space of our living, both as individuals and as society”.

We must spread the awareness on how space influences us!

We think it is important to spread architectural debate to all the society. Nowadays spatial design is a topic for few intellectuals. This is due both to a lack of interest of the society and to the little importance of solipsistic topics, compared to the power the matter actually has. As architects we need to make people know what a great power spatial design has and how this is handled by our social system.

As reminded by the president of Biennale Paolo Baratta, in the past editions many claimed that nowadays architecture is estranging itself from civil society. Within Aravena’s Biennale there was the attempt to investigate phenomena that demonstrate an opposite trend of renovating the practice to meet with social issues and dialogue with common people.

Architecture is the most political of arts because it is a tool for a society to physically shape its political organization. So it is necessary to highlight the importance of this practice in order to work on the realisation of a democratic and humanistic society through the configuration of urban context.
