Still, you can’t help but avoid the politics with mixing different personalities in one room. With such a wondrous event, you shouldn’t create a scene. In fact, don’t go out of your way to bring somebody down. There’s a time and place for everything, and this time, make it a point to get along. If there’s someone you can’t get along with, then you might as well try your best to avoid that person. However, if the situation can’t be avoided, then schmooze with your ‘frenemy’ because etiquette dictates you to be cordial and professional. It’s best to start small talk without being in the midst of a big group of people. Smile and wish them the best. Send out good vibes before you move on to your friends. When it comes to big get-togethers, you’re usually found in the company of friends. Well, this is also your chance to talk about mundane things. You might like each other, but you have to admit that a lot of your conversations revolved around work. You gravitate towards each other because you actually click. Get to know your buds so that you build a solid foundation for an even better kind of friendship. Ask the closest one in the bunch to circle the event with you. You’ll have a wingman and a sparring partner, which makes the night so much more fun and interesting. The whole experience could also spark further conversations, and if you do this often enough, you just might find yourself planning night-outs with all your friends at work. While you’d rather be with people you like, you also need to deal with those difficult characters who actually do a lot for you. It may be that troll from accounting or that ogre from procurement. Admit it, you need these people on your side every so often. Parties are your chance to extend that olive branch to let them know that while you’ve rubbed each other the wrong way in the past, you do actually appreciate their presence. Offer them a drink to make them know that you keep your work and personal life separate. If you get a no, at least you tried. This still makes them see that you mean them no ill harm. At least you did try to do something! Now, if you do like somebody from work, this is your chance to approach that person and catch their eye. Some people don’t focus on others during office hours, but once outside, it’s actually easier to start conversations with them. Stop relying on information from your colleagues. It’s always better to hear things straight from the horse’s mouth. Casually walk over to the person and talk about the food that was served or the music that’s being played. Be gutsy because you’re actually more inspired to work harder when you’ve just had a memorable night. The key here is to find something that you both like and hope that this could be the start of something wonderful.
