Relationship Rules You Can Break

When you’re with someone and people sense that it’s definitely getting serious, you’ll get bits of advice from everyone who wants to see you succeed. It’s nice to know that so many people care about you, but sometimes, you also need to break the rules in order to make the relationship more interesting. If you do everything by the book, you’re less likely to pay attention to what your gut says. You also need to listen to your instincts because most of the time, it’s right. If you feel as if you need to get to know your man more before you make the big commitment, it’s okay to live together. Years back, this was a big no-no. Well, there no longer such a thing as an old cow. You can put that overused cliché out to pasture because it helps to know what you’re getting yourself into before making a big decision. You just have to talk about a lot of things before you do decide to live together. Is this a step towards marriage or is this as far as your relationship goes? You have to be okay with whatever it is you decide. Make the emotional commitment before anything else and discuss what the future has for the two of you. Couples who are more open to each other will definitely last longer. Of course, misunderstandings are part of every relationship. What you have right now are two entities merging as one. Back then, people would tell you that you should never go to bed angry, but sometimes, you really do need the space so that you can tackle the issues you have calmly. Some people don’t like confrontations. In fact, they’ll react badly when you go out of your way to smooth things out before they’re even ready. Unresolved conflicts won’t always fester when you don’t go on troubleshoot mode immediately. When both your emotions are heightened, it will be hard for you to see things eye to eye. So, while the smoke is still coming out of your ears, take yourself out of the situation and sleep on it. The talk will go much better when you’ve both cooled off. Just make a promise to tackle the situation the very next day because it does get worse when you drag it too long. Still, the overnight plan is enough time so that you don’t get to build resentments against each other. When you lack sleep and you’re tired of all the fighting, you may not be objective. Then, ask yourselves what you really want. If you have to agree to disagree, then so be it. Just make sure to break down the walls that you’ve put up and learn the value of forgiveness. The bottom line is that you love and respect each other, and in the end, isn’t that what matters most? You may have hurt each other but your actions don’t always reflect what you truly feel. It just shows the other person that you have different ways of handling things.
