BOOK REVIEW It is vital for us as Africans to be aware of what elements make us stand out from other continents. This includes exploring in depth what we can continue to do to capitalise on key areas that have brought growth and work on the issues that continue to drag us down. Africa Is Open For Business by Victor Kgomoeswana is a must have especial for those that take a huge interest in the ever changing world of business. Get it at a CNA Store available to you. It is often said that healthy eating habits equals a healthy mind which then allows you to think smarter and reason differently. Therefore my best advice is for any health conscious individual to get one of the fastest selling nutritional book - Real Meal Revolution compiled by experts in the field . The brief profile on both books should already stir an interest, so rush while stock lasts.
AFRICA IS OPEN
FOR BUSINESS Victor Kgomoeswana, well known as an African business expert with a profile on radio and television, shares 50 stories of innovation and opportunity behind the business headlines of the last ten years on the African continent. From the introduction of M-pesa in Kenya to changing the image of Nigeria as Africa’s fraud capital, and from Rwandan coffee farmers to Ethiopian Airlines, and other remarkable stories in between, Kgomoeswana criss-crosses the continent to highlight the most fascinating business stories and their impact on the future of Africa. Africa is Open for Business contains a dynamic and different view of the opportunities available in Africa from those usually portrayed in the news and in other media. Kgomoeswana focuses on the stories behind the headlines as well as sharing his personal experiences of Africa while travelling and doing business in a way that is as entertaining as it is informative. VICTOR KGOMOESWANA is the Executive in Business Development at PPC, a listed South African cement company with operations in
South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and expanding into the rest of the continent. His role is finding investment and growth opportunities for PPC and laying the foundation for engagement. He has been presenting the weekly
Young's regular publication that highlights investment opportunities across the continent, and he is a contributor to several conferences and other discussions on Africa as an investment destination. This is his first book.
African Business Report on Talk Radio 702's Africa Business Report since July 2007 and features frequently as a guest on CNBC Africa, SABC television and radio stations on the topic of African business. Kgomoeswana is the founding editor of Eye on Africa, Ernst &

cleansing (and shaving) as it can strip the skin of natural moisture
1. Cleanse: Use a gentle cleanser (Facial foam or gel based cleanser) suited for your skin type, twice a day. Something with an alpha-hydroxy acid is recommended to promote cell-turnover; for the men who shave, this will also minimize razor bumps. To maximize moisture, avoid excessively hot water for cleansing (and shaving) as it can strip the skin of natural moisture and accelerate irritation or dryness. A toner at this time of the year can be skipped but if you feel you really need it use Rose water or an alcohol-free toner.
2. Exfoliate: When it gets cold, it’s even more important to exfoliate regularly to get rid of dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. Skimping on this important step can leave skin looking dull and tired. Make sure to use a gentle formula once or twice a week so you can have a smooth, even texture and brighter more youthful tone.

Moisturising is key Ethnic hair generally has a tendency to be dry and the curl structure makes it difficult for oil to properly penetrate both the scalp and the ends of the hair. It needs a moisturiser that helps retain its natural moisture without excessive chemicals or clogging pores. The best moisturiser for ethnic hair is an oil-based product that provides and seals in moisture instead of clogging the pores on your scalp like petroleum based products. Oil based products work better when applied to damp hair, acting more as a moisture sealant.
Look for products with excellent emollient properties such as argan, castor, jojoba and vegetable glycerine oils. You can also use products straight from the kitchen cupboard like coconut, olive, avocado and safflower oils which are excellent for hair and skin. Shea Butter is one of the healthiest moisturisers for hair and skin alike.

As Mzansi Magic Music we believe in exposing our audiences to the best in local and international music,” says Victor Koaho, Mzansi Magic Music’s Head of Marketing. In a recording career that spans almost three decades and 23 albums, Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Kenny G has grafted elements of R&B, pop and Latin to a jazz foundation solidifying his reputation as the premiere artist in contemporary jazz. instrumental chops and indelible melodies has resulted in sales of more than 75 million records worldwide (45 million in the U.S. alone) and more than a dozen climbs to the top of Billboard’s contemporary jazz chart. After High School, the gigs with R&B and contemporary jazz artists like White and Jeff Lorber kept coming. In 1982, he landed a record deal with Arista and launched a solo career with three critically acclaimed jazz albums – Kenny G (1982), G-Force (1983) and Gravity (1985). By the ‘90s, he was a multi-platinum seller and a frequent collaborator with some of the most iconic figures in American popular music, including Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Natalie Cole and Frank Sinatra. His subsequent studio albums, Silhouette (1988) and Breathless (1992), were hugely successful, the latter selling more than 12 million records in the U.S. alone and spawning the Grammy-winning single, “Forever in Love.” Other career highlights include Miracles, a 1994 holiday album that took him to the top of the Billboard chart for the first time and has since become the best-selling holiday album of all time. His two holiday albums since then – Faith in 1999 and Wishes in 2002 – have been similarly successful. At Last…The Duets Album, released in 2004, featured performances by

“cheating by Nolene Mathebula
ALMOST EVERY WOMAN HAS HAD THIS CONVERSATION DURING A GIRLS NIGHT OUT OR GIRLS NIGHT IN. THE IRONY OF THESE SESSIONS IS THAT THE GIRLS TOOK TIME OFF FROM THE BOYS, YET THEY JUST TALK ABOUT THE BOYS. Both men and women cheat, but why men cheat has become the big puzzle that has to be solved. If there's a woman out there with a perfect remedy to stop men from cheating permanently - guess what we're all ears and we will persevere until we get our desired results. Cheating comes from a deep emptiness inside an individual, a void that needs to be filled. We have boys that just do it for funwithout realising the wasted energy spent on someone they don't even connect with spiritually, they just have to boost their ego. Then we have boys that have turned it into a serious addiction commitment is just not part of the game plan. They perhaps took the vows to marry someone, but this was just to set the picture straight. They want to belong, but being with everyone
else seems to fulfill that extra gap created by something totally different.
this is something we create within ourselves.

I reckon he was born with a mic because his life is mostly structured around entertaining the masses whether it his show on Metro FMOskido I believe or by nurturing upcoming talent that just blossoms to great heights, take Heavy K and Busiswa as good examples. Oskido’s father is from Zimbabwe where he was born, at the age of 16 Bonginkosi moved to Brits (East Rand) to be with his mother who is South African.
artners and together to hat we offer guidance to our artists,
Today he is one of the key players that run one of South Africa’s biggest recording labels. I wonder if he has a secret that helps him in creating magic in his studio. “I am really not certain I can say I have a secret... I have partners and we work together to make sure that we offer advice and guidance to all our artists, we are like family and we treat each other as such” he says.
As he mentions family, I am reminded that he is a father and I ask him what characteristics he thinks makes one a role model to his children because we living in Growing up he was like any a country that really requires other child however his family us to step up and pave a way was very poor. Life went on were the children of South as they managed to survive Africa will follow in confidence. even under the most difficult conditions. “I think you should do That is one of the main reasons that inspired him to work hard so that he could be able to choose how to live his life without being confined in an environment that subjected him to poverty.

the best that you can in giving guidance... raising children is not an easy job you have to just be with them”.
He tries to make as much time possible for his kids by watching TV with them, that’s how he relaxes when his not working. His emphasis is on them feeling his presence. As the most valuable things in his life is his family and music! Those are the words from a man on a mission and that is adding value to the lives of South Africans. We also had a discussion about the Nigerian issue where school girls were abducted. He enlightens me as I ask him what steps can we take as Africans to educate the men in our continent to start thinking differently with regards to the role that women are suppose to play in our land? As he responds I realise that Oskido is not only a musician but also an individual that is very much in touch with the social issues that we are facing as Africans.
OSCAR FEELS THAT THERE IS A LACK OF MALE ROLE MODELS THAT ARE WILLING TO ASSIST IN CHAMPIONING AND PROTECTING WHAT WOMEN STAND FOR IN SOCIETY AND THAT IS A CHALLENGE WE ARE FACED WITH AS THE ROLE OF FEMALES IS BEING REDEFINED.
With that said, as Kalawa ...Who would’nt? Jazmee celebrates 20years in Okay, maybe I’m getting carried away. Let me snap out the music industry, he finds it quite surreal. of it. Oskido shares with me that he would probably be a Marketer. I reckon he would have excelled considering the success of Mafikizolo. The duo is just invading Africa as well as the world and his hands have played a role in where they are today. I will not even mention uHuru, a group that gets four year olds dancing trying to get the lyrics right with the luck.

The cd sales hitting a knock because of piracy has been tough but the introduction of digital seems to be making big changes.
Considering the fact that start of a business is not easy, holding onto it for 20 years is tough.
“Back then we had never had honours in award ceremonies or been that popular with the more corporate structure, however, we always had support from the people” he says. In a way Oscar makes it clear that it is the support from ordinary people that has elevated the stable. For him, the 20 years of democracy celebrations have been an opportunity to look back from where we come from as a country and be proud of where we are because we are currently reaping the fruits of freedom and how we can continue to fully express ourselves and be better. He recaps on his best moments with the stable: Working with Boom Shaka in the beginning. He had no idea how Big the group would become. Discovering other talents like Mafikizolo and BOP, all that has really been amazing.
25
“There has been a lot of pleasant surprises and hardships but it all makes the stable what it is today”. Oscar wa rona also mentions the fact that within this era of opportunity, he is encouraged people to raise their province’s flag. He gave the same advice to Tira and look at how popular the Durban sound has become. “We are working with new talent like Heavy K to do the same for the Eastern Cape, because there is talent everywhere”. He is spot on, considering Zahara’s story, we can never underestimate the potential of other regions outside Gauteng.
“So, Why don’t you shine in your corner? Your time will come as the light attracts people”
26
He further explains that the music industry is very lucrative, there are a lot of business opportunities.
His company has recently partnered with the NYDA to offer business start-ups within the music industry hence his stating that good things are surfacing.
The trouble is that people that try to get into the music industry are always looking at Oskido remains inspired by people that work hard and being stars. continue to make a difference. He is just blessed to bless others and I really feel that most individuals that are in his position in their respective fields should start doing the same. His journey has not been a bed of roses in the sense that he had to deal with negative publicity. He highlights that in the beginning it was difficult to ignore the negative publicity but he learned to just focus on his work and let it speak on his behalf.

COFFEE BREAK For Coffee lovers
Meet Western Capes Latte Art Champion
Luyolo Ndandane Winter will never be the same again!
WHAT IS A LATTE? Latte art is a method of preparing coffee created by pouring steamed milk into a shot of espresso and resulting in a pattern or design on the surface
Luyolo Ndandane is playing his role together with the individuals that are making Latte Art popular in Southern Africa. Born in 1988, Cala Town in the Eastern Cape but grow up in Delft South Africa.
of the resulting latte. It can also be created or embellished by simply "drawing" in the top layer of foam. Latte art is particularly difficult to create consistently, due to the demanding conditions required of both the espresso shot and milk. This, in turn, is limited by the experience of the barista and quality of the espresso machine. The pour itself, then, becomes the last challenge for the latte artist. Latte art developed independently in different countries, following the introduction of espresso and the development of microfoam, the combination of crema and microfoam allowing the pattern; it presumably was initially developed in Italy.
It all started at @Origin Artisan Coffee Roasters in 2006. For him it was an origin to a wonderful great journey full of accomplishments. He first fell in love with latte art and now his current mission is to be the best in the country.
the coffee plant its days are numbered. His tip - Never let the coffee to be in contact with water before extraction or brewing. That's rule number one. That's why one has to use it immediately, from green bean to roasted beans to grinded beans. He prefers handpicked beans for it is guaranteed that each and every bean is carefully selected to insure the quality of each and every bean. Then comes the processing, which differs on each coffee farm. Some are fully washed some sun dried.
He proudly informs Zingce Lifestyle Magazine that he holds the following title: Western Cape Regional Latte Art Champion for 2013-2014 as well as the best technical Barista for 2012-2013 nationally it’s simply - his cup is just a bliss. This 25year old has been on SABC 3 ESPRESSO SHOW, pouring a classic rosette, the other lesson that he has learned is that "coffee is a living beverage" and that we need to keep it like that up until it gets to the customers hands. From the moment it's picked from

Coffee Coffee Terminology Equipment The barista or coffee addicts are familiar with the coffee terminology used: Aromas, body, brightness (acidic) and flavour are what defines a perfect cup of espresso, some of these notes develop more when milk plays its role, which is the sweetness that brings an overall tongue taste, bringing a delicate flavour to the mouth. Each origin has its own profile, and what one picks up by cupping is never wrong #FACT. We all have different pallets. Grinded coffee can maintain its body, aroma and flavour for about 2-3 minutes max that is why most Baristas grind, insect (the porter filter) brew immediately. If one is grinding for home use, they need to make sure how they store their beans. Air tight container always the best, not the fridge because fridge observes moisture.
36
Take notes: Always use clean equipment, regardless of which equipment you use. Every coffee has a different grind: some course, some fine and some finer from Turkish, Espresso to filter coffee. Always time how long the coffee stays in contact with water each and every method you use when making coffee. The longer the coffee is in contact with water when using a filter coffee machine, the more caffeine. When using an Espresso machine, the longer you run the shot the more sour your espresso gets. The shorter your espresso the more bitter. Turkish coffee doesn't discriminate because coffee stays in contact with water all the way to the last sip of your cup. So for those coffee lovers do not say we do not love you , we got an expect in the field to give you tips. So when you get your next dose, you will have a better understanding of the process.

SLK 55 AMG, pocket rocket in a suit. If Ludwig van Beethoven had to compose a song using vehicle sounds, he would have chosen the Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG! The car sounds like a dream, enough to get any self-respecting person to want one. The car has the poise of a distinguished gentleman but the naughtiness of a schoolboy, all wrapped in one. A true pocket rocket that will drive most drivers crazy. When I experienced the car, I was left wondering if it comes with a

finacial wellness
Put structure in your finances
& start moving forward towards a
Fruitful Life by Mark Cloete
You could be living within your budget but beyond your means. You only earn a certain amount of money in your life. Imagine that you knew how much money you would earn over your lifetime the day you started work?
Imagine that the whole amount was paid upfront and you knew how many years you have to live! How would that knowledge change the way you choose to spend your money? And how much easier would it be if your world existed without the added complexity of inflation and investment returns? Financial planning would be a breeze.
The uncertainty is removed.
Financial planning would consist of
saying something like “I have sixty-five years to go and I have sixty-five million Rand, so I can spend one million a year. Or, if I need to set aside two million Rand for a house and three million for educating my children, I only have sixty million left to spend over my lifetime, so that’s nine hundred and twenty three thousand Rand a year to spend. The problem is that in reality we go into life with no guarantees at all of what we might earn, how long we might live, what inflation and investment returns or indeed anything else might do. So financial planning is not a breeze. It’s a bit of a pain. It’s shooting a moving target.
When making financial choices, the only certainty we have is what we see happening in the present, so the prudent approach is to structure our financial planning around this reality.
41
This means spending our money as if our current earnings will stay the same for the balance of our working years and then no income will come in after that.
Your Average Lifetime Spending Threshold then, is the proportion of your current income you can spend so that you don’t run out of funds in the years after your career ends.
Of course, you should continue to strive in making yourself better - all that changes is the way you spend. It means that in each phase of incremental improvement, your lifestyle should reflect your projected earnings over a lifetime at the present level of earnings.
How do you calculate your Average Lifetime Spending Threshold? Divide the number of income earning years by the number of years of expenses and express the answer as a percentage (45/65=70%).
This ensures you can maintain a standard of living rather than living large while you are young and then living in poverty or dependence on others in your old age.
This means that if you are 20 years old, you can live on 70% of what you earn and 30% belongs to the future. By this standard, far too many people are living beyond their means. How do you fare?
Let’s break it down. Most people work between about age twenty and age sixty-five. So about forty-five years. On the other hand you will have expenses until you die. Let’s say people die on average at age eighty-five. That means that in an adult lifetime, there are sixty-five years of expenses, but only forty-five years to pay for them.
If you spend all your income during the working years, you will not be able to meet expenses during the resting years.
42
Now when you start taking inflation, investment growth, your actual age and your retirement age into account and consider how your expenses might alter at different stages of your life depending on your family and circumstances, it becomes very difficult to guesstimate your Average Lifetime Spending Threshold. That’s when you turn to a professional financial planner for guidance. Be in touch with your Certified financial Planner , email Mark on : moneydoctorsa@gmail.com or mark.cloete@momentum.co.za

HEALTH CARE AND SUPPORT This programme gives care and support to children and adults that are on ARV Treatment, who are taken to clinic and hospital visits on a monthly basis. Then home visits are conducted to ensure that adherence to treatment takes place. Basic home care is also conducted when the need arises.
Home Visits Home visits are conducted to ensure the well being of the beneficiaries at home. They are firstly conducted by
social auxiliary workers to determine the eligibility of service to the family. Secondly, they are conducted by health workers if a family member is or needs to be on ARVT. Thirdly, they are conducted by our field workers who are the organizations' foot soldiers, who check on the family's well-being and report to the OVC's coordinators, who in return conduct spot checks on the families. Lastly, they are conducted by social auxiliary workers or the social worker to families that need intervention.

Zingce Magazine spends Mandela Day at Ikageng Aids Ministry in Soweto. The 18 of July was a day where South Africans united in the spirit of Ubuntu and doing their bit, therefore contributing in making South Africa a better place through giving. What is the biggest challenge about your profession?
This can be a challenge whether your principal doesn’t believe in your potential, skill or competence. I think that these are ongoing challenges that we are all working and reflecting on.
The most obvious challenge is the uncertainty. We have a lot of pieces of new legislation which are sometimes poorly drafted and have unintended consequences and it makes it difficult to work with. In addition to that, our legal system is also based on precedence which

I am absolutely inspired by a desire to influence young people and leave a legacy of fulfilment. It is also very important to me to know that I made a sustainable impact, that I created and/or supported leaders and that my being on earth was for a different purpose than just being in my office every day.
What is your long term goal? My long term goal is to be a director in a transformed law firm with a large African footprint and make sure that I play my party locally, regionally and internationally as an active global citizen in supporting a dynamic

eventually corrected. Selling time for a living will always be a challenge because it is a limited commodity, there are only 24 hours a day and it does not matter how many units of it you create after that, at the end of the day, there are only 24 hours in a day. It is also difficult I think to try and find balance because it is an incredibly demanding profession. Fortunately for me my boss Biddy Faber is very flexible and supportive and my firm in general supports me and my obvious aspirations.
CAREER PROFILING : LAW Besides law what else remains of interest to you? I spend a lot of time with my mentees and working with different youth organisations. I like to run and travel.
In this democratic era is there an evident shift in the role that women play in society?
Effectively more support for the innovation hubs, more seed and R&D funding. It also wouldn’t hurt to see better quality graduates leaving universities than what we are currently seeing – seems as though our education system is lagging a little behind. I would like to see fewer people walking on freeways late at night walking home from or to work – that breaks my heart. I also hope to see fewer people buying loaves of bread to eat with tea for lunch while

unapologetic and influential leaders in our society. I am inspired by leading women such as Phuti Mahanyele (CEO of Shanduka Group), Zukie Siyotula (CEO of Thebe Capital) and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma (African Union chairwoman). Phuti and Zuki whom I have had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with I find to be incredibly intelligent, eloquent and humble.
What makes you proudly South Africa? The diversity of our country, the incredible heritage sites and amazing history. I am proudly a product of the worst that our country has been through and the best that our country has to offer.

to go but I remain hopeful and inspired by the little progress that we are making as a country and continent, particularly in the legal fraternity we are seeing more females as heads of departments, senior management and are Exco members of large law firms. I would however like to see a woman as the Chairman of a large law firm here in South Africa, or considered to be a “rain maker” because that is true leadership. Some people might think that this last statement is controversial but why not? And if not, what kind of indictment is that on the skill, expertise, availability and management
not what do you feel can be done to add value ? I believe that our justice system has integrity and comparable with some of the best in the world. There are always lessons or best practices that can be learnt from different jurisdictions in order to remain globally competitive. A justice system is simply meant to serve the needs of its society that it operates in. South African may not be the centre of arbitration in the world but our judges are good and we make good law.
style of women in the workplace? Lawyers can generally manage themselves in their own practice areas, so I would rather want to see a female Chairman before a female CEO in the legal fraternity.
What is your biggest dream for South Africa? My biggest dream for South Africa is to see more young entrepreneurs with accessible funding to support their ventures and teams of experts available to assist and guide them.

EVENT REVIEW : YOUTH WITH PURPOSE ON THE 9TH AUGUST (WOMEN’S DAY ) THE ACCOUNTING SCHOOL COUNCIL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WITWATERSRAND HOSTED THE LADIES HIGH TEA AND GENTLEMEN’S BREAKFAST AT THE ORIGINS CENTRE.
Dankie Mokwena, Projects and Campaigns officer of The Accounting School Council, a portfolio shared with Boitumelo Lejage were primarily responsible for both events . The vision behind the Ladies’ High Tea was obviously to celebrate women’s month. “What we wanted as ASC was to inspire young women and remind them that they are worth more than they think” those were the words of the lovely lady that hosted such an inspirational event together with her team. Khaya Sithole who is also a lecturer at the university assisted the council with securing some of the most influential women to speak to the students and the guests that attended . The powerful speakers were: Zukie Siyotula (CEO of Thebe Capital, CA (SA)), Nonku Shezi (Divisional Admin and finance Manager at L’Oreal Manufacturing) - L,CA (SA)) and Bridgett Majola (LLB, 200 YSA M & G 2014). These women have achieved so much in so little time. Ladies were motivated and encouraged to dream big. The event was packed, ladies looked beautiful after all it was about them and celebrating being simply a women.
