The Samurai Re-Imagined explores the roots of the popular Japanese art forms of manga (graphic novels) and anime (animation) in the traditional arts of Japan by examining images of the iconic warrior, the samurai. By juxtaposing depictions of samurai in Edo era woodblock prints, ink paintings, historical photographs, animation cels and drawings, original manga panels, and toys, the exhibition will demonstrate the ongoing links between fine art and popular culture in Japan. Our trip to the museum will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2009
STUF FOR CLUBS QUESTION OF THE MONTH Our last newsletter’s question was: “What series features the best spring/summer celebration episode?” Here’s what some of you had to say: “For me, the best series with a summer vacation/party would be Ouran High School Host Club. It may have multiple vacation theme episodes, but each one is memorable in its own way.” Rachel H., Gustavus Adolphus Anime and Manga Society

“The best spring/summer celebration episode has to be that of Azumanga Daioh. It was just hilarious and has remained one of my favorite episodes for years now…” Jamey R., EML Anime Club

“My favorite spring/summer celebration episode would be from the anime The Wallflower… What a crazy funfilled episode! Amber Y., Anime Brigade In the past few weeks, there’s been a lot of chatter about possible North American versions of popular anime and manga series, like Full Metal Panic! and Death Note, not to mention the pending Cowboy Bebop movie starring Keanu Reeves. This month’s question: “What anime or manga series would you like to see receive the Hollywood treatment, and who would you cast in the lead roles?” Send your responses to animeclubs@rightstuf.com, and we’ll hand-pick a few responses for our next newsletter!
