The air system constantly exhausts all bathrooms and some other rooms through a Lifebreath Heat Recovery Ventilator (HRV) that recovers over 90% of its energy. Fresh air is brought in through 4 filters – a rough filter, an electronic filter, an electrostatic filter and a UV microbial filter. Radiant heating is installed in the floor in 10 zones. A central thermostatic system in the office monitors and controls all remote temperature sensors. ◊◊ The 11½ -inch space below the main floor, the bathrooms walls and any containing plumbing, are filled with cellulose insulation and soundproofing. ◊◊ Anderson casement windows and sliding doors are installed - dual-pane, high-performance low-E insulating. Interior and exterior doors are Simpson solid core. All hardware is Emtek oil-rubbed bronze. ◊◊ The wine cellar is designed to hold 1500 bottles in racks. This room is cooled by an a/c system maintaining 55 degrees F. A BRIEF HISTORY BEHIND BY THE CURRENT OWNERS "When I moved to Portland in 1996 I biked a lot in the Willamette Valley. The vineyards were very appealing to my farming past so I started thinking about buying land and planting vines. After I met Vicki, one weekend we drove out to see the listing of a small farm and discovered a sign on the property we now own. It was a 20 acre mess. I made an offer and purchased the land in September 1999. Immediately I stated clearing the north east corner for the first vineyard block and a farm building was erected. Planting the first block started in August 2000 and was finished in April 2001. Construction of the house began in March 2002 and was ready for residence in April 2003. Clearing and preparing the site continued until 2010 when the Syrah block was planted. In 2011 the Chardonnay and Viognier vines were planted. The final block of Tempranillo and other Pinot Noirs were in the ground by 2013. The farm building was improved and converted to a winery and winemaking started in 2007. Previous vintages were produced at Northwest Wines in McMinnville."
The owner’s vision for VIDON was shaped by two life experiences – having been born and raised on a farm in North Dakota and living in France while doing post-graduate physics research. As a result, he loves farming and Burgundy wines. This led to his plan to develop a small Willamette Valley vineyard with a winery that produced premium Estate Pinot Noir wines. He feels there’s real pleasure in developing new skills and creating something from scratch and he believes that “it’s the journey, not the destination” that is most satisfying. The 2000 case winery includes a Tasting and Barrel Room and welcomes guests with an impressive view of the vineyard and valley beyond. You can feel the love that the winemaker/owner have put into each and every vine. Walk this impressive vineyard and find the owner’s favorite resting spot for the perfect view while enjoying the fruits of your labor. The guests will be delighted as they relax in the large wine barrel chairs, sitting under the gazebo, drinking the fabulous wine and enjoying the views below.

SUMMARY: This beautiful and well-kept vineyard in the central part Chehalem Mountains AVA is nestled at the base of a narrow, vineyard lined canyon. According to the NRCS Soil Survey the soils are of the basalt based Saum-Parrett Series. These soils are deep to moderately deep and well drained. Grapevines grow very well on these soils and require very little input to grow and mature well. The elevation of the vineyard is between 400 and 530 feet which is very good for ripening grapes in the Willamette Valley. The neighboring vineyards are highly regarded vineyard sites known for producing top quality grapes. The property is largely planted though with some additional ground work it is possible that there is another acre worth of ground that could be planted to grapevines.
