problem as we must find a large and unused space to create the work (rehearsal) and then the space for the performance for an audience. In this hot real estate market, it is difficult to find a large enough space that can be devoted to only one purpose for up to 7 weeks. “Several years ago, there were many performance groups in Hudson County,’ said Mr. Cockrell. “We even had an association – The Hudson County Theater Alliance, that worked to build community and assistance between the many groups. Now, there are only a few of us left – all the others have been shut out due to lack of space.” Fortunately, J CITY Theater has created a relationship with the Barrow Mansion at 83 Wayne Street that will
allow them to resurrect their organization. Artistic Director, Sandy Cockrell says, “The Barrow Mansion has been incredibly welcoming and supportive of us. They have an amazing space that allows us to create our work on the highest levels and we look forward to building a great relationship with them.” “Our audiences have always been our greatest champions,’ said Ms. Cockrell. “There hasn’t been a week gone by that we haven’t received an email or been stopped on the street by a former audience member to tell us that they miss us and hope we come back soon. Audience members won’t have long to wait. J CITY Theater is currently in rehearsals for their new play: Clark Gable Slept Here. They open on May 4th. Lights, Camera, Action! Mississippi film features local producer and crew Cont’d from cover The feature film stars such talent as John Schneider (Dukes of Hazzard & Smallville), Sonny Marinelli (CBS series Vegas & HBO’s Entourage), Evan Williams (MTV’s Awkward & Netflix’s Versailles) as Lewis, and the University of Oklahoma football legend Marcus DuPree among other L.A., New Orleans, and Mississippibased actors. Leonard was instrumental in recruiting his friend Marinelli, who travelled to Mississippi to portray Robert Grinder, a central character in the film. Marinelli and Mississippi-based actor Amye Gousset (as
Priscilla Grinder) portray the locals who open their tavern, “Grinder’s Stand,” to Lewis where he meets his untimely demise. Marinelli remarked, “Working with this great ensemble cast was a pleasure every day.” The film presents several possible explanations for Lewis’ death, a story that writer and director Richey was intent on telling as part of his fascination with Mississippi history. Richey said, “The period is simply rich with story possibilities, and I felt the best story to start with was the tale of Lewis’s suspicious death.” Evan Williams added, “Meriwether Lewis is a compelling hero of American folklore. Actress Amye Gousset plays Priscilla Grinder was a complicated man, and I relished the opportunity to dive into the parts of his life that aren’t necessarily forefront in the history books.” The film crew also included producer Robbie Fisher, producer Morgan Cutturini, cinematographer Michael Williams, and New Jersey residents Cameron Taddeo, who served as 1st assistant director, and his sister Sara Taddeo as script supervisor. The Taddeos’ father Pat Taddeo was born and raised in the Marion Section of Jersey City. The Taddeo siblings had previously worked with Leonard, Richey, and fellow producer Community
College, Morgan Cutturini, a faculty member at Itawamba which was the incubator for the former collaborations of the Mysterious Circumstance producer team. The film encouraged the participation of Itawamba Community College film students who served as production assistants on the film. The Mississippi and New Jersey connection in filmmaking has become a repeated and successful tradition, one which producer Leonard plans to continue. “The chemistry among the cast and crew was simply amazing. We are now in development to return to film Mississippi Scholar in the summer of 2022,” Leonard said.

able to establish temporary outdoor seating with the issuance of a temporary use permit. These permits may allow food and/or beverage establishments to expand the areas available for seating on a cases by case basis. These temporary use permits were approved for most establishments last year through an active mercantile license from the City of Bayonne. If a food and/or beverage establishment received approval in 2020 for temporary outdoor dining, a new application is not required if the proposed use remains the same. However, proof of 2021 insurance must be provided. If the business proposal has changed, a new application will be required. Temporary outdoor dining permits allow operation from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. at A.B.C.licensed facilities and normal business hours for non-A.B.C.-licensed facilities.
Food and/or beverage establishments interested in continuing their temporary outdoor dining use permit in the same manner as the 2020 approval must sign a certification and mail or place it in the drop box by the outside of City Hall to the attention of Room #13- Zoning Office. There is no fee to continue the temporary outdoor dining use for qualifying food and/or beverage establishments. A food and/or beverage establishment that did not apply previously or receive approval for outdoor dining must submit a new application packet along with proof of insurance coverage. There is no fee for new applications or the continuation certification. For questions, please contact Tracey Tuohy in the Zoning Office at 201-858-6110 or Michele O’Reilly in the Health Department at 201-858-6355.
