Warm, feisty, and intelligent, the Delany sisters speak their mind in a play that is at once a vital historical record and a moving portrait of two remarkable women who continued to love, laugh, and embrace life after over a hundred years of living side by side. Their sharp memories show us the post-Reconstruction South and Booker T. Washington; Harlem’s Golden Age and Langston Hughes, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Paul Robeson. Bessie breaks barriers to become

One of the surviving items from the devastating fire at Hackensack Riverkeeper headquarters on May 16th is a framed photo of one of the first pair of Osprey to successfully nest on the Hackensack River shoreline in over 50 years. At that time, the Osprey was a threatened species in New Jersey and Hackensack Riverkeeper, like the Osprey, is already making a strong comeback. Canoe and kayak rentals are available at the Laurel Hill and Overpeck Park paddling centers, the river and Newark Bay from Hackensack to Staten Island have been patrolled, several environmental violations are being investigated and staff have surveyed over 40 nest sites,

New Policy Allows Bayonne Sidewalk Sales Three Days Per Week Through September 5
At its meeting on July 15, the Bayonne City Council passed a resolution allowing merchants citywide to sell merchandise on the sidewalks in front of their stores every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from July through Saturday, September 5, 2020, or until the Coronavirus emergency is terminated, whichever is sooner. The new policy allows all stores in Bayonne to have sidewalk sales in all commercial zones. The purpose of the new policy is to boost the local retail trade, which has been curtailed by New Jersey’s Coronavirus emergency restrictions, which have limited indoor business activities. The resolution passed in June stated, “The COVID-19 crisis has severely restricted Bayonne’s merchants from conducting business in their normal fashion.” City officials wanted to find additional means to improve local economic activity. The new resolution was passed for that reason. Mayor Jimmy Davis said, “I would like to thank the City Council for supporting the Administration’s proposal for expanding sidewalk sales. These sales will boost business for local merchants and provide additional choices for Bayonne shoppers.” Mayor Davis continued, “I would like to encourage Bayonne consumers to support local businesses by patronizing the sidewalk sales, and by ordering take-out food and eating outdoors at local restaurants.”
