Mayor Fulop Advances Jersey City’s Police Department with Promotions of 11 Deputy Chiefs and 39 Sergeants, Furthering Diversity through the Ranks Mayor Steven M. Fulop, Public Safety Director James Shea, and Police Director Tawana Moody announce the promotion of 11 Deputy Chiefs and 39 Sergeants within the Jersey City Police Department, which took place this morning during a ceremony inside City Hall Council Chambers. These promotions boost diversity through the ranks with new leadership further reflecting Jersey City’s diverse population. “We have the best police department in the state, bar none, and that starts from the top down. Effective leadership is key, especially when it comes to law
enforcement, and I have no doubt this diverse group of newly promoted Deputy Chiefs and Sergeants will continue the progress we’ve seen in recent years to enhance public safety, community relations, and quality of life overall,” said Mayor Fulop. The Fulop Administration has focused efforts surrounding diversity recruitment to help law enforcement
better understand and meet the needs of the most diverse City in the nation. As a result, nearly 75% of the over 700 officers hired since Mayor Fulop took office in 2013 represent minority populations. Today’s promotions expand upon these efforts as more than half of the newly promoted Sergeants are minorities, Cont’d on page 10
HUDSON HAPPENINGS City of Bayonne Covers Over Putin’s Name and Signature on Local September 11 Memorial and Groundbreaking Marker
Mayor Jimmy Davis announced that the City of Bayonne has covered over Russian President Vladimir Putin’s name and signature on the September 11 memorial and ground-breaking marker at the former Military Ocean Terminal. Mayor Davis said, “In light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the enormous refugee crisis that he has caused, the City of Bayonne has covered President Putin’s name and signature until further notice. We remain grateful to the Russian people for the memorial. They did not start the war. Mr. Putin did. The memorial will stay in place on our waterfront. It is not going anywhere.” Mayor Davis added, “I would like to thank Public Works Director Tommy Cotter for finding a technique to cover Putin’s name and signature while still respecting those who perished on September 11, 2001. The covering

The ground-breaking ceremony for the memorial took place in 2005, when Putin visited the memorial site in Bayonne. Former U.S. President Bill Clinton participated in the memorial’s dedication ceremony in 2006.
