Defeating Anxiety— 15 Keys to Gaining Biblical Peace

T

hrough my books and Worldview Weekend programs, I often present information that could cause people to worry about disturbing realities growing in the world around us. My intent, though, certainly is not to introduce anxiety into the lives of my readers and listeners. Jesus Himself points out that in the world we will have troubles (John 16:33). Yet as Christians, we are not supposed to have anxiety over the difficulties we see around us or even about those things that press upon us personally. Perhaps you don’t struggle with anxiety, but you may know a fellow believer who does. Whether you or someone else, though, Scripture has an amazing capacity to put our minds at ease if we understand the truth about how God wants us to handle our anxieties. As I’ve researched this issue in Scripture, I’ve distilled the biblical teaching about worry into 18 key points from the Bible as to how Christians should deal with fear, anxiety, and worry. 1. Anxiety causes depression. The Bible tells us that anxiety causes depression. Proverbs 12:25 is straightforward in its assessment: “Anxiety in the heart of a man causes depression.” So, one reason so many people suffer with depression is that they allow anxiety to overtake them. It is easy to understand why an unbeliever might become anxious. Unbelievers don’t have access to the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, they have no guarantee of eternal life, the reality of the Holy Spirit helping them, or understanding of the Word of God to help gain peace and calmness. To help a non-believer cope with depression can be an opportunity to share the Gospel. It’s different, though, with believers. Sometimes we struggle with anxiety as well, but Scripture offers us an opportunity to be free of it if we simply accept what is set before us. If you’re a believer struggling with depression, you might ask yourself, “Am I struggling with depression because I have anxiety?” That’s the biblical diagnosis for someone who is depressed, and releasing the anxiety is a potential solution. 2. Worry brings anxiety. You may see a connection with point #1. If anxiety is the source of depression, then it’s helpful to know where the anxiety comes from. As you worry, that brings

anxiety. Jesus addresses this head-on with His disciples in Luke 12:22-31 where He explains to them all the reasons they do not need to be anxious: He [Jesus] said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then, are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith? “And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.” The solution Jesus points to for anxiety is to “seek the kingdom of God.” The implication of the original language here is that we’re told to “seek heaven.” It means that if we pursue what is really important—not the temporal things of this life—we will have a perspective that brings us peace. 3. Wrong priorities bring despair.

“But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

The point Jesus makes after the teaching on worry that we looked at in point #2 is revealed in Luke 12:34: “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” A lot of people set their hearts on pursuing the things of this world. And some actually obtain them, thinking it will be the sweetest life possible. After working hard—perhaps for many years—to obtain them, they discover that worldly things don’t bring the joy they thought they would. If you pour your life into securing material things as the center of your life, you’re going to be very disappointed. Even Christians can fall into this trap. I know some who are not happy people because they have allowed wrong priorities into their lives. Sometimes Christians wrongly focus their time and attention on things that are temporal, not eternal. As 1 Timothy 6:6 says, “Godliness with contentment is great gain.” Continued on Page 12 Worldview Weekend Digest Winter/Spring 2017

Defeating Anxiety—18 Keys to Gaining Biblical Peace (continued)

4. Peace is lost through a quarrelsome home. If you struggle with not having much inner peace, it may be because of what’s going on in your home. Nothing is worse than friction in a marriage. Not getting along with your spouse is a sure peace thief. The Bible speaks specifically to this domestic issue. Proverbs 17:1 says, “Better is a dry morsel with quietness than a house full of feasting with strife.” And Proverbs 15:17 is similar: “Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fatted calf with hatred.” Children sometimes present another sort of problem at home. You may have a really good marriage but struggle with a quarrelsome or contentious teenager. So, as believers, we have to understand the biblical principles for marriage, for raising our children, and for dealing with anger to help us get under control the quarreling that might remove peace from our homes. Getting this fixed may be a necessary first step for peace in your life. 5. God gives peace to those who seek Him. Another reason believers sometimes lack peace is that they are not truly seeking the Lord. And how do we seek the Lord? Through the study of His Word and through prayer. Study of Scripture reveals the character and nature of God because the Bible reflects His character and nature. The Bible promises that God gives peace to those who seek Him. As Psalm 34:4 says, “I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and He delivered me from all my fears.” If we seek Him, we will find peace. 6. God gives peace to those who obey Him. To experience peace as a result of seeking God presumes that you will obey Him as you go. Sometimes, though, Christians live in disobedience. If so, the lack of peace is due at least in part to God’s chastisement. He will not give you peace if you do not obey. Disobedience grows out of not living in accordance with God’s Word. Rather than happiness, He brings trials and tribulations into your life to get your attention. Just as disobedience results in a lack of peace, obedience results in peace. According to Philippians 4:9, “The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you” (emphasis mine). If we follow biblical teachings, we will have peace. Galatians 5:22-23 is similar: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” Peace is one of the fruits of the Spirit that grows in us when we walk in accordance with God’s will. Even in the midst of what the world would say are turmoil, trials, and heartache, God can bring a peace that surpasses understanding. 12

Psalm 119:165 says, “Great peace have those who love Your law.” The law of God is His Word. So: Love God’s Word and receive peace. 7. God gives peace to those who are corrected by Him. God chastises believers who are not obedient, but the end result is renewed peace. If God brings discipline into your life, your reaction should be, “Hey, wait a minute, the Lord is trying to get my attention here; He’s punishing me; I’m suffering consequences for not being obedient to Him.” Then you learn the lessons God has for you so He can restore peace to you. This sort of correction may not be enjoyable at the time, but it is a blessing. Hebrews 12:11 points out that “no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” No one likes to be chastened by the Lord, but after we have repented, it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained. Job 5:17 goes even further. This scripture says that “happy is the man whom God corrects; therefore, do not despise the chastening of the Almighty” (emphasis mine). So, if you are living in disobedience and are not at peace, be thankful. God chastens you because He loves you. Once you submit to His discipline and repent, He will restore peace to you. 8. A spirit of fear does not come from God. If we feel fear, it is not from God. As 2 Timothy 1:7 assures us, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Love and a sound mind are blessings from God—sources of peace, not fear. 9. God is aware of our despair and anxiety, and He offers a solution. Philippians 4:6-7 promises that we can “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” When we’re anxious, we can go to God in thankful prayer, tell Him about our needs, and rest in His peace. 10. God takes care of the righteous. Although we’ll never be completely holy in this life, we are meant to pursue righteousness and holiness. As we do, God takes care of us. Job 36:7 promises that “He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous.” Righteous living means we walk in accord with God’s statutes and principles, seeking to live in line with Continued on Page 16 Worldview Weekend Digest Winter/Spring 2017

Defeating Anxiety—18 Keys to Gaining Biblical Peace (continued)

His character and nature. As we pursue righteousness, Psalm 37:25 also gives us reason not to fret: “I have been young, and now am old; and I have not seen the righteous forsaken.” 11. Anxiety calls into question God’s power. Many things we see on the nightly news, read in the daily newspaper, or view online could bring fear, anxiety, and worry, but the Lord is loving and kind. Jesus knew we would encounter troubling times, and so He told us about it ahead of time (Mark 13:23), so we would know He is in control. We need to understand how serious it is when believers let fear, anxiety, and worry rule our lives. Anxiety calls into question God’s power. This is why worry, anxiety, and fear ultimately are sins because it means we’re not trusting the Lord. We wonder, Is God really capable of solving this problem I might have? Will He really sustain me? Is God’s grace sufficient for me? The Bible says “yes” to all three questions. Galatians 2:20 explains why we can have confidence in our place with God: I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. So, God is all powerful; He’s the One at work in us, so we need not fear. 12. Anxiety calls into question God’s provision. God has already made the ultimate provision for us—our salvation—so all else is of little consequence by comparison. As 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” If God can and will provide that for us, He can and will provide whatever else we truly need. When we grow anxious, we call into question this willingness of God to provide for us. We’re saying to Him, “I’m not really sure You can provide for me.” Yet, He has already provided for us the greatest thing that could ever be provided. He has made the greatest sacrifice possible in His only begotten Son. 13. Anxiety calls into question God’s priority. Our anxiety indicates that we do not fully grasp how immensely God cares for us. Luke 12:24-28 points this out: Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Consider 16

the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. This scripture proclaims that God actually cares for the ravens—mere birds—so, of course He will care for you. After all, He laid down His life (the provision) for us. 14. Anxiety calls into question God’s providence. Anxiety in us is as if we don’t think God has the power to do what He aims to do. We simply need to relax in the truth of Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” His direction is the divine providence we need. He will not lead us into anything that is ultimately bad for us. 15. Anxiety calls into question God’s sovereignty. When we let fear, anxiety, or worry rule our lives, we’re doubting God’s absolute authority. He has complete authority in this world to do whatever He intends, and since He intends our good, we don’t have to be anxious over anything that comes our way. This is how utterly sovereign He is: Hebrews 1:3—“who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Colossians 1:17—“And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” He can and will take care of us. The bottom line here is that when we allow fear, anxiety, or worry to rule our lives, we’re sinning. Our worry is an insult to God because we’re calling into question His power, provision, priority, providence, and His sovereignty. Yes, we live in a fallen world in which evil things happen. Yet because of our trust in a mighty, sovereign, loving heavenly Father, we must control any fear, anxiety, worry, and manage the root causes. Are we disobedient due to wrong priorities, motives, or goals? Do we live in a home filled with quarreling and fighting? If so, what is the root cause of that quarreling and fighting? Is it because we have family members who are unbelievers? Or who are believers making sinful choices? Whatever is taking away your peace, find it and take control over it with the Word of God. The White Magic of Evangelicalism

W

hen it comes to real magic, the answer is “no.” Although you may have heard a distinction between black magic—special powers used for evil—and white magic—powers used for good—both are from the demonic realm. White magic is meant to look good, but it’s not. By God’s standard, it is evil, too. White magic may well be more dangerous than its dark alternative because it is actually black magic camouflaged as something good. People have always been fascinated by the idea of magic. As A. W. Tozer notes, “So strong is the bent of the human heart toward magic that there has hardly been a time when the faith of Christ has not been plagued with it.” Strange as it may seem, many people who claim to be Christians these days are fooling around with various forms of magic, Gnosticism, and mysticism, all of which derive from the occult. Many have wrapped occult practices, techniques, and messages in a veneer of Christianity by using Christian titles, terminology, and slogans. Many within the New Age movement talk about Many have wrapped occult Jesus, God, salvation, or practices, techniques, and atonement, but they’re playing with words. The New messages in a veneer of Age is nothing more than Christianity by using Christian the old lie of Satan which he titles, terminology, and slogans. first tried with great success on Eve in Genesis 3:4: “You will be like God.” To people today, that means we each get to decide what is right and wrong. We can discover hidden knowledge. We decide our own truths. Some churches now even offer “Christian yoga,” yet there’s nothing Christian about it. Yoga means yoke or union with a Hindu god. Yoga’s cousin, transcendental meditation (TM) is likewise popular, originally brought to America by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the mid-twentieth century. Despite the popularity of drug use in the 1960s, many Americans did not want to take drugs to discover their “inner Christhood” or deity through an altered state of consciousness. As a result, the Maharishi took advantage of the opportunity

WVWFoundation.com

to bring Hinduism to the United States. He gave yoga the more marketable name, transcendental meditation, and brought it to the West. So, yoga is an integral part of Hinduism, a thoroughly occult-based religion, and we’re supposed to believe it can be Christianized? I don’t think so. Christians have also gotten One of Satan’s most effective involved in other practices strategies is to insinuate just unbecoming to Christ followers. Take automatic enough truth to attract an writing, for instance. It’s the audience that would not be idea that you can read a verse attracted to darker things. and then sit in silence, waiting for the Lord to tell you—either audibly or “in your spirit”—a message to write down. The practice is supposed to reveal what a particular verse means. New Age author Helen Schucman actually claims to have written a whole book through automatic writing. A Course in Miracles is acclaimed by devotees to be the ‘Bible of the New Age.’ And who is the entity that supposedly helped Schucman write her bible? She claimed it was Jesus, but no doubt any help she received was from a demon with the boldness to call himself Jesus. Although I don’t agree with everything Merrill Unger writes, he offers an insightful overview of what magic like this is all about: Magic may be defined as the art of bringing about results beyond man’s power through the enlistment of supernatural agencies. White magic is black magic in pious masquerade. It uses, in a magic way, the name of God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit, along with Bible phrases and terminology, but is demonic—demonic in character. . . . It is carried on in many so-called Christian circles. It is called white because it parades under the banner of light in contrast to black magic that openly enlists the aid of the powers of darkness.38 White magic, is difficult to address because its many forms of camouflage include hints of the truth. One of Satan’s most effective strategies is to insinuate just enough truth to attract an audience that would not be attracted to darker things. People then mistake the partial truth for the whole truth, and Satan succeeds in undermining the Continued on Page 32

In this volume, Brannon answers these questions and more: • Why does God allow persecution of Christians? • How can you know the will of God for your life? • In what way does much of evangelicalism promote white magic, and how can you avoid it? • How can God use sinful man to accomplish His purposes without being the Author of evil? • How does Scripture show that people are not taking trips to heaven today? • Why does it contradict the Bible to say that Jesus or angels appear to preach the gospel to Muslims? • How can you help a family member or friend defeat anxiety and obtain biblical peace? • Are predestination and man’s responsibility contradictory, or can the two be reconciled? • Is the ten percent tithe a biblical teaching? 24

I am a pastor that was not aware of all the junk that is going on in the name of Jesus and distorting the Word of God, thus hurting the saints. I agree with your stand on the Word of God. Keep up the good work.” —Kenneth “I’ve just recently discovered you guys and your program and it’s exactly what I need to help me further along in what the Lord Jesus has been showing me in His Word. Recently my eyes have been opened to a lot of the deception going on in the world and in much of the church in these last days.” —Brent “I just wanted to tell you how thankful I am that God reached out and put your Worldview Weekend radio and television show in my path a couple years ago…I have learned so much about false prophets from you and your guests…I can’t thank you and your guests enough for information no one else has out there.” —Linda “I just wanted to say thank you so much for your teaching. I had believed a lot of the lies that you are willing to refute. You do such great research and put it together in a way that is understandable. This information keeps me aware and alert. I also appreciate that you preach the gospel in all of your work.” —Lori

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your ministry and the strong, solid foundation of Biblical teaching upon which all of your ministry is based. Do You Want to Understand the Times With Biblical Reason, Logic, and Context?

S

ince we began offering the free Worldview Weekend rallies, tens of thousands of people have attended, with ages ranging from pre-teen to senior adults. Almost every person leaving said they wished they had brought people with them, as the evening helped them understand global events through the lens of the Bible. Americans have largely lost reason, logic, and context. Even self-described evangelicals have little, if any, Biblical understanding of what they see occurring on a global scale, and therefore have no idea how to respond. There is a reason why we have seen people from national security agencies, federal law enforcement agencies, members of Congress, military officers, local law enforcement officials, along with tens of thousands of Americans attend our conferences. We bring together keynote speakers that have achieved the gold standard in research, communication skills, and most importantly, Biblical insight and understanding of world events. For example; the nations of Libya, Russia, Iran, Turkey, Syria, and Afghanistan are constantly in the news as many of them form military agreements. Did you know that the Old Testament prophet Ezekiel, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, foretold in Ezekiel 38 that this group of nations would gather together to come against Israel? You and I are living in what appears to be the very time in which the stage is being set for the text of Ezekiel 38 to be fulfilled. Yet, how many Christians read the paper and watch the news with this understanding? There is a global rise of a Marxist & Muslim coalition just as the Bible predicted. Over the past few months, America has seen social unrest in numerous American cities, yet do you understand the players and their worldviews behind this highly organized and lavishly funded movement? In America and around the world, Communist/Marxist and Muslims groups are openly talking about how they are building a global coalition in hopes of a global revolution. These groups are united in their hatred of Biblical Christianity, free market capitalism, religious liberty, and their hatred of Israel. A few headlines from well-known news sources include the following: • • • •

Communist Group Members go to Milwaukee to Help ‘Revolution’ Chicago Teachers Strategize on How to Indoctrinate Kids with Marxism Pope Francis Emerges as Marxist While the Christian World Burns Former FBI Counter-Terrorism Agent: ‘Vast Majority’ of U.S. Mosques/Islamic Centers Part of ‘Jihadi Network’ Illegal Migrants from Terror-Linked Countries Surging at Southern Border

• • •

U.S. Marxists Conspiring with Muslim Brotherhood to Collapse the Middle East Islam to Become Russia’s Predominant Religion by 2050 France to Shut Down 160 Mosques Used as Terror Centers

While these headlines may cause fear in the hearts of many, Christians that know their Bible will understand that a global rise of a Marxist and Muslim coalition is exactly what is laid out in Ezekiel 38 & 39. Jimmy DeYoung is an internationally recognized expert on these topics and will be speaking at the free Worldview Weekend Rallies. The Worldview Weekend Rallies keynote presentations are compelling, fast paced, and bring understanding, clarity, peace and comfort through an assurance that God’s Word is a supernatural book, written by a supernatural God. Our rallies are far from doom and gloom! Our free Biblical Worldview Weekend rallies bring Biblical understanding, and this produces an incredible peace for attendees as it reveals and reaffirms that God is sovereign—has total control—over world events. The media and President Obama have said that ISIS is not Islamic but did you know that ISIS is actually conducting itself just as Muslims are to do so according to the Koran and Hadith? Former Muslim, Shahram Hadian, speaking at our free rallies, will prove this point without any question as will Egyptian and expert on the Koran, Usama Dakdok. Shahram Hadian will also be a keynote speaker in Branson with a brand new presentation. Did you know that the government has distributed well over $1 billion dollars to socalled charity and “religious” organizations to assist them in bringing Muslim refugees to America that have not been vetted and are from terror-linked nations? Part of the strategy of many of these “religious” organizations is to say that this is what Jesus would have Christians do. Do you know what the Bible has to say about the role of government, national security and borders? Did you know that many of these “religious” organizations are saying that Christians and Muslims worship the same god? Yet, the Koran makes it clear that the Jesus of the Koran is not the Jesus of the Bible. The Koran openly denies the deity of Jesus Christ and the trinity. Do you have enough Biblical understanding to refute the growing worldview of Chrislam? You can if you attend a free Worldview Weekend rally. On the education and science front we are told that the Biblical worldview is not consistent with science. Did you know that Darwinian evolution actually contradicts the known laws of the universe and the Bible actually reported on scientific facts even before the “experts” understood what the Bible reported two thousand years ahead of them? Jason Pratt is speaking at our Branson Worldview Weekend and is literally a rocket scientist and a Navy test pilot. Jason was an avowed atheist and evolutionist and hated Christians. One of his favorite past time activities was to mock them to their face. While in school, Jason saw the scientific fallacy of Darwinian evolution and began to consider the claims of the Bible. Today, Jason is a passionate speaker for the gospel and the truth of Christianity. Jason will be a keynote speaker at our Branson Worldview Weekend in April of 2017. Continued on Page 43

Do you ever wonder where the Biblical fruit of ministry is, the unwavering contending for the faith, the clear proclamation of the gospel, and the encouraging and equipping of the saints? Sadly, many so-called evangelical organizations today are involved in one ecumenical, spiritual enterprise after another that confuses people as to what the gospel truly is. The White Magic of Evangelicalism (continued) Gospel. Joel Osteen is an especially toxic example of this approach. He promotes what he calls the power of “I am.” “Look in the mirror,” he says, “and say, ‘I am.’ Tell yourself that you’re healthy, strong, and successful.” He also warns against saying bad things of yourself because if you do, those bad things will come looking for you. Yet, this is the occultism known as positive confession or shamanism. To dress it up as Christianity, Osteen uses scripture out of context (of course) and twists it to his own ends. Christians should not be duped by such things. Scripture warns us against white magic. In 2 Corinthians 11:14-15, Paul says: Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore, it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works. White magic is Satan transforming himself into an angel of light, and the consequences can be extremely serious. For instance, I suspect that Moroni, the angel who allegedly appeared to Joseph Smith and gave him the tablets which Smith “translated” into the Book of Mormon, was a Satanic angel of light. It started one of the largest modern-day cults, the Church of the Latter Day Saints. I believe the same is true of many cult leaders today. They think they’ve encountered an angel when, in fact, they are involved with a demon. Scripture records a revealing story of white magic at work. Look at Acts 16:16-18:

White magic is Satan transforming himself into an angel of light.

Now it happened, as we went to pray, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour. Divination is another word for magic and is also an occult practice. Any time you see the word divination, you’re talking about something that deals with the occult. 32

Worldview Weekend Digest Winter/Spring 2017

WVWFoundation.com

The slave girl in this story apparently is able to reveal information, like a fortune teller, that supposedly comes from the spirit world. Her owners sold her divination services and made a lot of money. They certainly didn’t care about her soul. They were interested only in the money. The demon speaking through her did as so many false teachers do today. It laced its comments with Any time you see the just enough truth to be convincing. “These men word divination, you’re are the servants of the talking about something Most High,” it announced, “who proclaim to us the that deals with the occult. way of salvation.” That is, after all, exactly what Paul and his companions were doing. Yet the demon had a seriously ulterior motive. It was using the girl to infiltrate the group of believers. And isn’t that what goes on Continued on Page 36

The White Magic of Evangelicalism (continued) today? Demonically inspired false teachers infiltrate the Church, speaking just enough truth to build credibility and attract an audience. Paul, of course, saw through the demonic strategy and rejected the praises from the demonic realm. Sadly, many of today’s “evangelicals” are not so discerning. They are happy to be endorsed by the world and its overlord, Satan, and they feel a need to validate evangelicalism. You can see this especially through the celebrity adoration that occurs so often. As soon as a famous person says he or she has become a Christian, church leaders have them speak at their churches or interview them on “Christian television” and radio. They want the “coolness” of the celebrity to transfer to the church, so the audience will think the church is “cool” too. But did Paul do that? Certainly not. Paul wanted nothing to do with the things of the world or with the demonic realm, and he rebuked the spirit in the slave girl. He would not let this demonic person gain a foothold in the new Church and mislead its new believers. That should be our desire as well. Becoming a “hip church” is not an appropriate goal. John MacArthur speaks directly to this issue in commenting on Acts 16:

Becoming a “hip church” is not an appropriate goal.

Satan was quick to react, first attempting to infiltrate the young fellowship with a demon-possessed medium. When Paul’s miraculous power thwarted that attempt, Satan tried to destroy the Church through persecution. Those are always his two avenues: infiltration, attacking the Church from within; and persecution, attacking it from without.39 Matthew Henry’s Commentary also offers insight into the situation in Acts 16:16-24: Satan, though the father of lies, will declare the most important truths when he can thereby serve his purposes. But much mischief is done to the real servants of Christ by unholy and false preachers of the Gospel who are confounded with them by careless observers. My friends, those who do good by drawing men from sin may expect to be reviled as troublers of the city.40 36

Worldview Weekend Digest Winter/Spring 2017

SituationRoom.net

Paul was considered a troubler of the city of Philippi. Matthew Henry points out that real servants of Christ such as Paul are often persecuted by false teachers. This happens subtly today. It’s not uncommon for people to be drawn away from a Bible-preaching church to a flashier congregation headed by a dynamic false teacher. People begin to view the solid Bible teacher as “extreme” or “narrow minded,” “fundamentalist,” “legalistic,” or “intolerant.” The Bible teacher becomes known as the troublemaker in town.

...real servants of Christ such as Paul are often persecuted by false teachers.

Confronting the White Magic Problem The apostle Philip also demonstrates a way to handle white magic infiltration. Acts 8:5-10 describes the situation: Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed and lame were healed. And there was great joy in that city. But there was a certain man called Simon, who previously practiced sorcery in the city and astonished the people of Samaria, claiming that he was someone great, to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, “This man is the great power of God.” This passage reflects the reality that there is nothing new under the sun. Nearly 2,000 years ago, Philip faced a group of people in Samaria who had been convinced that “this man [a false teacher] is the great power of God.” Satan deceived people then, and he still does it now. 2017 WORLDVIEW WEEKEND RALLY SPEAKERS

Shahram Hadian A Christian pastor and former Muslim, Shahram Hadian travels around the nation speaking on critical issues facing us as Americans. Shahram was born in Iran in 1971. His father was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, and his mom was an elementary school teacher. Shahram’s parents had a sense of urgency to leave Iran as soon as possible and in December of 1978, with nothing but their suitcases, they moved to America to seek freedom. Shahram experienced a transformational life change 15 years ago when he committed his life to Jesus Christ. When Shahram became a Christian, he immediately faced persecution and disapproval from his family and culture. According to the teachings of Islam, his conversion means that he is an “apostate” and deserves to be killed. In spite of this opposition, Shahram persevered, enrolled in Bible College, and has been a Christian pastor for the last ten years. He graduated from Puget Sound Christian College with a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies and Christian Ministry.

Usama Dakdok Usama Dakdok was born in Egypt and raised in a Christian home as the son of a Baptist pastor. He became a Christian at the age of eleven. Usama learned about Islam in school because it was, and still is, a mandatory subject. To further his knowledge of Islam, he studied Islamic law in college. Usama came to the United States in 1992 after his marriage to Vicki, an American whom he met in Germany, where they were both in a full-time ministry. Usama holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology and a Master’s Degree in Missions from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Usama is now working to warn American Christians about the dangers of Islam and the rise of Sharia law in America. Usama worked for four years to translate the Koran into perfect English. The twenty-one English copies of the Koran that are now available have been white-washed. Usama’s perfect English translation reveals the accurate and dangerous worldview of Islam. Usama will be speaking on this topic at the Worldview Weekend and will also equip you with the best way to share the truth of the Bible and Jesus Christ with Muslim friends or neighbors. Usama will also address the dangers of “evangelical” leaders entering into “interfaith coalitions” with Muslims and the three different types of Jihad called for in the Koran. Usama will also reveal why so many mosques are being built in America and who is funding their construction.

Ron Rhodes started his career with his siblings as a singing group that appeared on national television broadcasts alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood and entertainment. In a green room back stage waiting to appear on a national television program, Ron heard about the gospel. After studying the claims he heard and understanding them to be true, Ron repented of his sins and placed his faith and trust in Christ. Today Ron is the author of over 60 books and is a staunch defender of the authenticity and veracity of the Bible. Ron is also an expert on world events and will be a speaker you will not want to miss hearing at our Branson 2017, Worldview Weekend. Whether it is our free Worldview Weekend rallies that will be held in 23 states in 2017, or our Branson 2017 Worldview Weekend in beautiful Branson, Missouri, we have what many say are the most compelling, Biblically articulate and theologically sound speakers of any conference ministry in the nation. I have highlighted only a few of our Biblical experts in this article, but you will find the full bio sketch of our speakers at the back of this magazine. So, if you want to understand the times with Biblical reason, logic, and context, then sign up and join us at one of our conferences. Worldview Weekend Digest Winter/Spring 2017

Religion is becoming the driving force behind political and economic structures of the most demonic world empire in history. As Brannon Howse demonstrates in The Coming Religious Reich, a one-world, ecumenical, religious system is in the works. It will foster a global consensus around a worldwide socialistic economy and tyrannical government. In the two previous books in his trilogy of warnings about the developing one-world system, Brannon first explained the grave influence of radical change agents who infiltrated the global education system to corrupt the worldview of the past several generations. Then he revealed a religious “Trojan horse”

that crept into modern-day evangelicalism to set the stage for the Antichrist. Now, Brannon shows where we are on the path to worldwide totalitarianism, and who the key players are. This is no conspiracy theory. Scripture details the facts, worldviews, key participants, nations, and the events that are at work. Pretense has given way to overt activism, and many seemingly respectable leaders—both past and present— shamelessly promote their demonically-inspired goals through books, speeches, white-papers, and interviews. The people and groups at work to bring about a one-world system include Pope Francis and the Vatican, Tony Blair and his Faith Foundation, the European Union, Word of Faith false teachers, compromised profamily organizations, the International Monetary Fund, the Bank for International Settlements, and—of course—the United Nations, to name a few. You’ll shake your head as you read of their brazen plans to dominate all of us. Worldview Weekend Digest Winter/Spring 2017
