WELCOME TO WOC27!
Women have long been the backbone of many cultures, but they don’t hold the same opportunities as men. In societies worldwide, women have struggled to gain recognition for their contributions. Despite this, significant progress has been made. There are so many examples of women’s contributions in all fields. From science to business to politics, we have made great strides. Yet there is more to be done. As we look to the future, the waves of opportunity in the 21st century give us a new sense of purpose and hope. And we are more than prepared to meet that challenge. Our story continues to unfold at the Women of Color STEM Conference.
WELCOME
GREG HAYES
Chairman and CEO Raytheon Technologies Leaders,Welcome to the 2022 Women of Color STEM Conference, where you’ll join attendees from around the world to examine “The Struggle, The Progress, The Future” and be challenged to take personal and collective action across issues, geographies and sectors.
At Raytheon Technologies, we believe that expansive thinking and bold innovation require a culture that is diverse, equitable and inclusive. As a company, we’re committed to supporting the advancement of women of color and paving the way for the next generation of STEM talent, helping them realize their full potential through K-12 programming, internships and mentoring.
We do this with the belief that companies don’t innovate – people do.
When the voices of women of color are heard and valued where critical business decisions are made, we all benefit. At Raytheon Technologies, we’ve set our own company-wide DE&I goals for 2030 to achieve gender parity and to double the representation of people of color, both in executive leadership roles. These commitments are part of how we hold ourselves accountable and measure our progress on community engagement, supplier diversity and public policy.
Conferences like this are critical in advancing our societal objectives, and they provide an opportunity to celebrate, connect and empower the many women of color who have been pioneers in their field, while also inspiring others to pursue future STEM careers.
Raytheon Technologies is proud to sponsor the Women of Color STEM Conference – the largest of its kind – as we work together to solve the world’s toughest challenges while building a culture of inclusion and opportunity for all.
Enjoy the conference.

STEVEN J. DEMETRIOU Chair & CEO JacobsI would like to welcome you to this year’s Women of Color STEM Conference. As an organization, Jacobs is proud to be both a co-host and sponsor of what has become one of the premier forums for recognizing the contributions of the amazing women leading in STEM and inspiring future generations of STEM professionals on the rise! And what a forum it is — the largest multicultural event of its type, dedicated to connecting, developing and empowering some of the industry’s most talented women.
This year’s theme of “The Struggle, The Progress, The Future” has many implications that come to bear when I think about how the industry has changed over the past decade in both the scope of work and demographic make-up. Our world is changing — demands for true equity, justice and equality has caused us all to examine biased business practices that have in the past prevented well-deserving and qualified women from thriving and advancing – and through events like this we are building and launching a new generation of diverse female leaders the like of which our industries have never seen before. I am personally proud that Jacobs has continued to rise by fostering a culture where all employees, including women and people of color, are empowered to do their best work and be recognized for their accomplishments.
Jacobs is strongly committed to creating opportunities for a richly diverse workforce, as well as for promoting and nurturing a love of the sciences among the leaders of tomorrow. We have taken bold actions to recruit, retain and promote diverse talent at Jacobs. Through our STEM activities and partnerships with prominent Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and organizations like Black Engineer of the Year, the National Society for Black Engineers and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, we have been able to recruit the best, brightest and most diverse talent in the industry.
To further enhance the rich diversity of our workforce, we have created a series of programs, such as the launch of an aspirational objective for the next five years to create a 40-40-20 gender-balanced workforce around the globe (40% women, 40% men and 20% open to any gender). This is widely recognized as an industry

best practice, and we are committed to leading on this front. Also, through our Global Action Plan for Advancing Justice and Equality, we have set out actionable initiatives and measurable objectives to address racial inequalities. This Fall we will launch our first global Supplier Diversity Dashboard, a live tool that enables us to track every dollar we spend on small businesses and veteran, women, and minority-owned suppliers. With this tool we can hold ourselves accountable for delivering on the commitments laid out by our Action Plan — and we are already seeing great progress and results as our spend with diverse businesses increases year-on-year.
What is remarkable about our Jacobs actions is that they have been driven not only by leadership but through organic, grassroots campaigns led by members of our eight global employee networks. With over 14,000 members, these networks are true force multipliers for the positive cultural changes that we have seen at Jacobs.
To this year’s attendees — thank you for attending the conference. I look forward to meeting you and engaging in enlightening discussions over the next three days.
Enjoy the conference!

Welcome to the 27th annual Women of Color (WOC) Conference.
For almost three decades, this unique event has been a forum of choice for professional development and networking. Employers committed to diversity, equity and inclusion have chosen the conference to attract the best and brightest in scientific and technical fields.
In partnership with Career Communications Group’s Women of Color magazine, WOC27 is proud to collaborate with leading employers as they promote multiculturalism and gender equity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
Each year, Women of Color magazine and the WOC Conference are thrilled to share the stories of innovators, inventors, and changemakers worldwide.
Since 1995, awards presented at the Women of Color Conference have honored excellence in STEM and underscore what we all lose when everyone is not at the table.
This year’s conference theme is “The Struggle, the Progress, and the Future,” and over the next three days, keynotes, seminars, and award shows will reflect on national and global milestones to achieve gender equality and the best practices that address the challenges to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
To meet the challenges of the global pandemic, the Women of Color Conference hosted in-person events through its digital twin experience(DTX) platform and the STEM City Metaverse. Our innovative DTX continues to offer online attendance and full-year access to 365-day media through STEM City USA.
Enjoy the conference!

At this kick-off marquee event, we celebrate hundreds of them who have shown the world, their communities, their families, and themselves the meaning of power at a time when our society must come to terms with a new way of life. WOMEN OF COLOR PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAM
PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAM
WOMEN OF COLOR PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAM
The Women of Color STEM Conference regularly partners with organizations whose missions are closely aligned with that of the conference to broaden the discussion about STEM opportunities. These programs engage the entire STEM pipeline, and the participants draw inspiration from the core Women of Color STEM Conference. It is our hope to increase your awareness of the importance of organizations like these that may already exist in your communities and to encourage you to offer your support.
PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAM SPONSORED BY THE GENERAL MOTORS FOUNDATION
The Women of Color STEM Conference ensures that its influence on building the STEM pipeline extends into the precollege community of students who might not otherwise aspire to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers because of social and economic barriers. Career Communications Group partners with STEM-related businesses, military personnel, and universities to bring precollege students together to participate in the conference. Students participate in hands-on, competitive activities that engage and challenge them to view STEM careers as real options. High school and middle school students from the Detroit and surrounding areas are invited to participate.
With the support of the General Motors Foundation and local the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP), this year’s pre-college program will focus on careers in the metaverse, transportation, energy sectors.
The program’s main feature will be the new sustained coaching, which will bring Women of Color role models into the classroom to share their stories and answer questions about the journey to their STEM careers. The classroom visits will occur in the week of the conference.
During the conference, pre-college students will participate in a full-day program that will include hands-on workshops designed by top STEM employers, round-table discussions with current Women of Color winners and college students, and opportunities to participate in escorted visits with companies to learn of the STEM career opportunities. Additionally, students are invited to engage in learning coding skills prior the conference in order to compete in a metaverse hackathon.

In these difficult times, when government and business leaders are forced to focus on day-to-day operations to restart and rebuild the U.S. economy and get people back to work, some of the first areas to be hit by cutbacks are diversity and inclusion programs, education partnerships, and community outreach—the very things that add value and hold the key to global competitiveness. That is why Career Communications Group, Inc. is grateful to the following companies that continue to support these core values. Thank you for your leadership.

2022 WOMEN OF COLOR NOMINATIONS AND SELECTION COMMITTEE
Last spring, representatives from academia, industry, and government, in addition to Women of Color Awards alumni and strategic partners, volunteered their efforts to review hundreds of nominations for the 2022 Women of Color STEM Conference Awards.
This year’s selection panel was comprised of professionals drawn from a wide spectrum of the scientific and technical community. They met over several days and reviewed and scored the packages.
During this time, panel members did an extensive read of nomination packages and ranked and scored each candidate based on established criteria and guidelines.
