an Danieluc, a Romanian judo champion and personal trainer, has opened Judokan Athletic Club inside the Hawk Meadow Montessori School in Lagrange, offering instruction to the public on Thursday evenings in advance of a full-scale grand opening in early 2014.

A longtime personal trainer with a successful practice in New York City for many years and the owner of D&D Health and Fitness, LLC, Danieluc recently moved to

Dutchess County to find a quieter place to raise his two sons. He immediately noticed a lack of available judo training options, and opened Judokan.

“I’m trying to make Judokan a unique judo club because in Dutchess County, there is not even one real dojo,” Danieluc said. “I’m hoping to build a judo club with tradition that’s the biggest and best judo club for both kids and adults.”

Grecke has been promoted from Responsible Parent Initiative Case Manager to helm the One Stop, while Simone Stewart joins the team in Grecke’s vacated position. Stewart works with families referred by the Dutchess County Department of Community and Family Services in order to help generate positive changes and a more positive future.

Matt Bettina and Kadiyah Lodge have been appointed to the position of Youth One Stop Case Manager. The pair each work with the income-eligible youth in the program to develop education and career-related goals. Zoaya Fatima rounds out the One Stop team, serving as the office’s Services Specialist, where she manages the office and provides both staff and client support.

New Beacon office to help serve southern members

I

t is with great pleasure that I can announce that the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce has, as of mid-September, opened a second office in Beacon, giving us a physical presence in both Dutchess County cities.

This new office, located at 33 Henry Street, will serve as a secondary base of operations for all Chamber business and the work done by our Workforce Development Center and Youth One Stop. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. with the Youth One Stop additionally open Thursday’s until 7 p.m. and on the first Saturday of each month from Noon-4 p.m. I urge any of our members in the lower part of the county to stop by anytime we may be of service.

It is my hope that the Beacon office allows us to better understand the unique needs and challenges facing the business community in Southern Dutchess County and also helps us expand our membership base there. Beacon is vibrant city with a wonderful Main Street business district, a great love of the arts and plenty of people who Think Local First. We at the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce are excited to get

even more involved in that community and to continue to promote Beacon as the worldclass destination that it is.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to invite you to see our new space for yourself during our official grand opening ribbon cutting and special dedication on Thursday, October 10 at 5 p.m. Our doors will be open for tours and the Chamber staff will be on hand to greet friends and tell any new faces about all the different programs offered through membership. Despite melodramatic media accounts of the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), over 90% of the population is living in peace in an area the size of the U.S. east of the Mississippi River. Congolese women have been seriously disadvantaged by traditional and religious gender stereotypes as well as a restrictive legal code. However, from little girls on up to elderly grandmothers there is an astounding dynamism to be found among women. Groundwater & Environmental Services, Inc., with an area location in Patterson, N.Y., is the winner of Environmental Business Journal’s 2012 Business Achievement Award in the remediation technology category for deployment of real-time remote monitoring systems to observe and analyze data on groundwater, surface water, and air emissions at project sites.

GES successfully used remote monitoring and data trend analyses on a variety of projects. On one project, GES collected data to understand natural methane fluctuations in groundwater and well headspace, demonstrating how those data correlate to other parameters such as weather changes and water well pumping. GES also has also implemented real-time monitoring on projects that utilize solar-powered weather stations installed at unconventional gas well drilling sites. The real-time data is being used to notify staff, via e-mail alarm notifications, of potentially unsafe conditions (e.g., high winds). Rainfall data (programmed with daily and hourly rainfall alarms) is used to initiate erosion and sediment control enhancements and inspections.
