The Youth Leadership Program Sophomore and junior high school students will:
• Experience interactive learning
• Attend challenging sessions presented by prominent community and business leaders
• Strengthen confidence and public speaking skills
• Participate in field trips
• Work on team building exercises
• Volunteer with local community service organizations
• Gain real-world experience by interning with a local organization of interest
• Start a business enterprise through involvement with Junior Achievement®
• Prepare for the college application process
• Build résumé and interviewing skills
• Have the opportunity to earn up to three college credits before graduating high school

About The Chamber Foundation, Inc. The Chamber Foundation, Inc. was established to promote education and training for area youth and professionals with the goal of enhancing the future of economic growth in the Hudson Valley region. Youth Leadership is an innovative, two-year leadership development program designed to enhance the academic, social and life skills of area sophomores and juniors and focuses on giving these students out-of-the-classroom leadership experiences. By the end of this dynamic program, students will emerge more confident and well-rounded, with improved leadership skills, a better understanding of themselves and their community, and developed skills and attitudes needed for success in college and life.
Who should apply:
• Freshmen from any public or private high school or who are homeschooled in Dutchess County preparing to enter sophomore year*
• Students looking to refine leadership skills
• Students who want to gain leadership skills
• Students looking to build confidence
• Students looking to experience careers in a field of choice
• Students wanting to develop a path after high school
*Any year high school student can apply, however preference will be given to freshman applicants and students returning for their second year of Youth Leadership
How the program works:

First year: Sophomores participate in Junior Achievement®, working on the formation of their own company, which includes stock sales, product selection, sales and marketing techniques.
Financial support for The Youth Leadership Program is from generous corporate donors, fundraising events, competitive grants and a nominal, sliding fee based on family income.
Second year: Juniors participate in sessions focused on career/college preparation and develop interview skills, write a résumé and learn about the college application process and ways of financing higher education. Each Youth Leadership session features a prominent community leader who hosts an interactive lesson on various topics including leadership, well-being and community awareness. To help reinforce the lessons being taught, sophomores complete 10 hours of community service and juniors complete a 20-hour business internship. Internship placements are based on each student’s field of interest.
A limited number of scholarships are available to students with little or no family income so any student may enroll. Fee and scholarship information can be found on the Youth Leadership application at ChamberFDN.org.
