Kia ora Koutou, On Thursday this week, 18 November, we held our Senior Academic. Certainly, a different ceremony due to covid restrictions, nevertheless it was a fantastic event and an absolute pleasure to see our students receive their awards. I am so proud of them given the year we have had. As you know, we had a live stream of the prizegiving and we hope that our school community had the opportunity to watch it. The day was very enjoyable and a proud occasion for us to celebrate the academic successes of our Senior Students. A big thank you to all our students and staff who organized this event, without whom it would not have been so successful. My thanks also to Kaumata Akeepa Taepa and Matt Heke for attending today and for presenting our students with their cups and certificates. I am pleased and honoured to announce and congratulate our 2021 Top Scholars and all of our prize winners: TOP SCHOLAR AWARDS 2021

INFORMATION __________________________________________________________________________________

___________________________________________________________________________ Y8 ORIENTATION DAY Due to the current Covid situation the Y8 Orientation Day will be cancelled. Thank you for the enrolments that we have received already, acknowledgement of these will be sent in due course.

___________________________________________________________________________ CHANGES TO THE RETURN OF NZQA EXAM BOOKLETS Changes to the way NZQA will return exam booklets in January:

Student access to marked answers • • •

Students will access all their marked exam answers through their NZQA student login. Paperbased answer booklets will not be returned in the mail (except for Scholarship exams). Students can view their marked answers online until June each year. This includes any scanned blank paper answer books, but not blank digital ones. It is important that students create an NZQA Student Login account on the Login Options page if they don’t already have one.

____________________________________________________________________________ STUDENT LOGIN CREDENTIALS FOR SCHOOL LEAVERS A reminder to students leaving school at the end of the year to check the email address they use for their Learner Login to ensure it remains accessible. Email addresses are used for logging into and resetting NZQA accounts. If your leavers are using a school email address they should update this to a personal email account before their school email account is deleted.

____________________________________________________________________________ SENIOR ENGLISH STUDENTS All Senior English students who have been issued a novel need to return these by the 3rd of December. Otherwise a lost novel charge will be placed on the students account. These can be returned to front reception or in English classes. Thank you.

14

____________________________________________________________________________ NZQA Students should be logging into their area on the NZQA site (www.nzqa.govt.nz) regularly to check their entries for externals, current results and how they link to Pathways and also, they can see their personalised exam timetable. All they need is their NSN (this is on all the tracking reports and can be accessed through the KAMAR and Schoolpoint portals).

We strongly encourage students to do this often! ____________________________________________________________________________ MATHS TUTORIALS FOR EXAMS Students MUST wear full school uniform AND sign in and out at the Duty Dean Year 11 MSC and MAT

____________________________________________________________________________ HOMESTAYS AT RLHS IN 2022 Are you interested in hosting an International Student or two in 2022 or beyond? It is likely that our borders will open up next year & we already have a number of groups interested in visiting our school for both language & cultural exchanges. At this stage most of these are 2 week stays. It is unlikely that the borders will be open early enough for us to accept International Students from the beginning of 2022, however, we could be looking at hosting students from about the middle of the year for 2 terms. 2023 could well allow us to once again accept students for a whole year. You will of course be paid an allowance for having a student stay with you, so if you are interested or would like more information please contact our Homestay Coordinator, Kay Ackerman ackermank@rotorualakes.school.nz or Director of International Students, Craig Cocking cockingc@rotorualakes.school.nz
