Dear Extended Family of DGMC: Yes, that’s right – you are part of the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus extended family! Our singers routinely call each other “brothers and sisters in song” and, when I speak to all of you from the stage, I feel the warmth of family. Many of you have been with us since the first concert in 1982; others are hearing the chorus for the first time. I hope you all feel the joy, acceptance and love emanating from the chorus this Holiday Season. Welcome to our family! A sense of family is one of many unique qualities of the DGMC and the Denver Women’s Chorus. As Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Arts Association, the nonprofit umbrella organization for the two choruses, I have the privilege of meeting many of you and listening as you share your concert stories and experiences. I am thrilled you have chosen to spend a few hours of your precious time with us as we create more musical memories during this magical time of the year. RMAA is very excited to be the 2018 recipient of a prestigious two-year Bloomberg Philanthropies Arts Innovation and Management (AIM) grant to strengthen administrative leadership and build audience capacity. As one of only 35 arts organization chosen from the Denver metropolitan area, the Artistic Directors, RMAA Board Chair and I already are hard at work developing a five-year artistic programming plan, attending AIM seminars, and participating in monthly teleconferences with our AIM mentor, a former staff member of the Kennedy Center Development Program. As part of our extended family, you have the opportunity to help us meet one additional goal of the Bloomberg Philanthropies grant: securing $4500 in matching funds. During intermission, please consider visiting our information table in the lobby to make a donation by cash or check, or find an RMAA volunteer who is ready to quickly process a credit card donation on one of our mobile devices. You can also visit rmarts.org on December 4th - Colorado Gives Day - and select Rocky Mountain Arts Association as your gift recipient. Thank you so much for being a generous and supportive member of our RMAA family! There is more good news to share! Through the generous support of the citizens of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), Rocky Mountain Arts Association is one of only two Tier III arts organizations that received grants to perform in all seven counties in the greater Denver metropolitan area during the 2018-2019 season, including new venues in Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield and Jefferson Counties. We are grateful for this opportunity to expand our mission of “building community through music” to new and diverse audiences in the months ahead. As you prepare to sit back and enjoy DGMC’s musical journey from Colorado’s majestic snowcapped mountains to the glitz and glam of Hollywood, you might also notice that our singers will be performing on spacious new standing risers, thanks to the overwhelming generosity of several longtime supporters of RMAA choruses! Now’s it’s time to enjoy DGMC’s 37th Annual Holiday Concert. As we say here in the Wild West, we wish all y’all Happy Holidays! Michael Sattler Executive Director Rocky Mountain Arts Association Denver Gay Men’s Chorus, Denver Women’s Chorus

Join RMAA’s Guardian Circle! The Guardian Circle is Rocky Mountain Arts Association’s monthly defined-giving program for family and friends of The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus and The Denver Women’s Chorus. When enrolling in this program at the Bronze ($10-49), Silver ($50-99) or Gold ($100+) levels, individuals are afforded the opportunity to support one or both choruses and to embrace the Association’s mission of “Building Community Through Music.” Guardian Circle members can designate monthly, tax-deductible contributions at any level to support many activities, including: to purchase new music and to defray the costs of securing performing rights; to assist individual singers with their annual chorus membership dues; to enhance production capabilities at our subscription concerts; to underwrite outreach efforts to unserved and underserved audiences in our community; and to support the Association’s administrative functions. Depending on the contribution level, each new or continuing Guardian Circle member receives a variety of benefits, such as: recognition in the printed program at every subscription concert; a specially designed Guardian Circle pin; complimentary tickets; invitations to exclusive donor recognition events; access to concert previews, preferential seating at performances; and invitations to exclusive VIP areas at all subscription concerts. Please consider this opportunity to join RMAA’s Guardian Circle and to wrap your arms around the 220-singing members of these two fine choruses. AUDIENCE SING ALONG! You know the words, but just in case you don’t ...here they are to help you! Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer

Have Yourself A Very Merry Christmas

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen, But do you recall? The most famous reindeer of all? Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Had a very shiny nose, And if you ever saw it, You would even say it glows. All of the other reindeer Used to laugh and call him names; They never let poor Rudolph Join in any reindeer games. Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say, Rudolph with your nose so bright, Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight? Then how the reindeer loved him As they shouted out with glee, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, You’ll go down in history!

Have yourself a merry little Christmas Let your heart be light From now on, our troubles will be out of sight Have yourself a merry little Christmas Make the Yuletide gay From now on, our troubles will be miles away Here we are as in olden days Happy golden days of yore Faithful friends who are dear to us Gather near to us once more Through the years we all will be together If the fates allow So hang a shining star upon the highest bough And have yourself a merry little Christmas now

Frosty the Snowman Frosty the Snowman Was a jolly happy soul With a corncob pipe and a button nose And his eyes made out of coal Frosty the Snowman Made the children laugh and play And were they surprised when Before their eyes He came to life that day There must have been some magic In that old silk hat they found For when they placed it on his head

12

He began to dance around Frosty the Snowman Was alive as he could be And the children say He could laugh and play Just the same as you and me Thumpety thump thump Thumpety thump thump Look at Frosty go Thumpety thump thump Thumpety thump thump Over the hills of snow

THANK YOU! The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus was established in 1982 with a passionate commitment to the lives and well-being of LGBTQ persons and steadfast dedication to fostering tolerance and acceptance among diverse communities in Colorado. Now in it’s 37th year as the premier gay performing arts organization in the Rocky Mountain region, DGMC has performed more than 225 concerts that have entertained, educated, inspired and empowered audiences of all ages. The ensemble has performed twice with the Colorado Symphony, sung at openings and closings of the state legislature, performed on university campuses in Colorado and Wyoming, and appeared with many well-known Broadway and pop music guest artists, including a 2018 featured performance with Alan Cumming on his Legal Immigrant tour at the Paramount Theatre. DGMC has premiered newly-commissioned choral works by fourteen composers, including the Rocky Mountain regional premiere of Andrew Lippa’s critically acclaimed I Am Harvey Milk; Nathan Hall’s Mountains and Rivers; Alan Shorter’s Make The Earth Your Companion; James Deignan’s What Do The Bells Say? and Craig Carnahan’s A Home is More. The chorus has appeared prominently in many of Colorado’s top-tier venues, including Boettcher Concert Hall, Buell Theatre, Gates Hall, Ellie Caulkins Opera House, Griffin Hall, Paramount Theatre and Red Rocks Amphitheatre. In 2016, DGMC made a groundbreaking appearance at the United States Air Force Academy Chapel, becoming one of the first openly gay choruses to sing at any of our nation’s military academies. In 2017, the chorus returned to the steps of the City and County Building in downtown Denver as featured entertainers for a live broadcast of Light the Lights to kickoff the Holiday Season. DGMC capped its 2017-2018 concert season by joining with treble singers from seventeen community choruses to become the first LGBTQA chorus in North America to perform Street Requiem, an homage to members of our community who struggle with homelessness and housing insecurity. Beyond Colorado, DGMC has traveled to twelve states, the District of Columbia and Canada, and has made joint appearances with several gay men’s choruses in major US cities. DGMC’s history of advocating for safe and supportive communities for all citizens is reflected in collaborations with The Matthew Shepard Foundation, The LGBT Community Center of Colorado, The Colorado AIDS Project, One Colorado, The Boulder County AIDS Project, Out Boulder County, The Colorado LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce, PFLAG Boulder County, and the national It Gets Better campaign. In Spring 2018, the chorus embarked on its first-ever school tour at George Washington High School to promote diversity, foster self- acceptance among high-school youth and to support anti-bullying efforts in our schools. To launch the 2018-2019 season, DGMC made its inaugural appearance at Coors Field to sing the national anthem at an MLB game between the Colorado Rockies and San Diego Padres, and traveled to Colorado Springs to present the southern Colorado premiere of Street Requiem. With generous support from citizens of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), the chorus is thrilled to be performing in all seven counties in the greater Denver metropolitan area this season. The ensemble will return to Fort Collins in January 2019 for the northern Colorado premiere of Street Requiem and will culminate its 2018-2019 season by joining with the Denver Women’s Chorus for the Rocky Mountain regional premiere of Stonewall 50: Silent No More to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, a seminal event in the gay rights movement in the United States.

Off Kilter! is a dynamic a cappella vocal troupe comprised of singers from the larger Denver Gay Men’s Chorus. The 16-member ensemble performs throughout the year at numerous small venues in the Denver metropolitan area and engages communities, supports causes and entertains audiences of all ages with a repertoire that ranges from classical to contemporary. Under the direction of Sam Eschliman, Off Kilter! recently was selected to participate in a master class with The King’s Singers, the world-renowned British men’s a cappella vocal ensemble. Off Kilter! is available to perform at private functions. For more information, contact us at offkilter@DGMC.org. 14
