Greetings! We are thrilled to have you join a vibrant community of geologists spanning the Rocky Mountain region. The Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists is a non-profit organization whose purposes are to promote interest in geology and allied sciences and their practical application, to foster scientific research and to encourage fellowship and cooperation among its members. RMAG has just over 2000 members, about 65% whom reside in the greater Denver metro area; the remainder live elsewhere in Colorado, in a dozen other states and several other countries. Members work in such diverse fields as: o Basic research (government and private) o Petroleum exploration and production o Mining exploration o Environmental geology o Hydrology (ground water, etc.) o Teaching (high school to university levels) Included in this packet are some tools for you to get acquainted with RMAG. As you’ll find out, the majority of your resources can be found on our website www.rmag.org however as a team, our staff is here for support. Thank you for joining RMAG. We hope you take advantage of all RMAG has to offer you and to see you at one, if not more, of our events.

Volunteer Volunteer Opportunities
As a diverse community of individuals working towards a worthy cause, we believe that your unique talents can bring us all forward. If you are skilled in any of the listed areas, or even if you just want to help, don’t be shy! The Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists hosts many events that benefit its members and the scientific community. Volunteers are always needed and welcome!
• Work with a committee to plan a symposium or event. • Be a puller (activate the trap machines that launch clay pigeons) at the annual Sporting Clay Tournament. • Sell mulligans at the annual Sporting Clay Tournament. • Sell mulligans at the annual Golf Tournament. • Drive a golf cart with refreshments at the annual Golf Tournament. • Help with on-site registration during events if needed. • Suggest interesting geologic topics for RMAG monthly luncheons. • During On the Rocks Field Trips, take photos for the Outcrop. • Take photos at events for the Outcrop and Website. • Serve as an editor for articles in RMAG publications. • Volunteer in the RMAG office on a variety of projects. The Outcrop
The Outcrop is the monthly newsletter of the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. A regionally oriented publication, The Outcrop focuses on articles about association events, member activities and topics of interest, awards, and operations. Members are kept up-to-date on the activities of the RMAG Board of Directors with an article written by the Secretary. The President of the Association communicates on topics of interest in this monthly newsletter as well. This public publication is posted the first week of every month on the RMAG website.
The Mountain Geologist
The Mountain Geologist is the quarterly peer reviewed scholarly publication for members only. Issues of The Mountain Geologist will remain on the RMAG web site approximately 18 months. Members can download the pdf to save it. Limited past issues are available in the office for $15 each.
Publication Updates Guidebooks can be purchased digitally now. Visit www.rmag.org, under the Publications and Purchase section to buy and download a guidebook.
Photo Contest! Do you have a photo of an outcrop, mountains, anything geologic related? If so, submit your photo to the RMAG office. Your photo may be featured on The Outcrop cover and you’ll be entered to win a free luncheon walk-in ticket.

Did you know... The Albany Hotel (previously at the corner of 17th and Stout) was the location for the first RMAG meeting on January 26th, 1922.

The Rockies Playmaker Forum When: March 24, 2016 Where: Denver City Center Marriott
Description: The Denver Playmakers Forum will feature US Rockies plays that were put together by well-known, successful playmakers. The forum will feature case histories, learnings, strategies, and suggestions for future playmakers. The event is co-sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists and the Division of Professional Affairs-AAPG.
IHS Trainings for RMAG Members

Description: IHS generously opened select trainings (Kingdom Geological Interpretation, Kingdom Seismic Interpretation, and Petra Overview Course) to RMAG members who are full time students or unemployed.
RMAG Golf Tournament
When: June 8, 2016 Where: Denver City Park Golf Course Description: The annual golf tournament offers geologists a day on a beautiful Colorado golf course in exchange for the office. With over 300 participants, golfers enjoy connecting with each other for a fun day out in the sun.

Mentorship Program
The RMAG Mentorship program runs from the Spring of 2016 through the fall of 2016. RMAG young professionals are paired with mentors to provide young professionals with a senior professional mentor who can provide career path and technical mentorship. Mentors For senior geologic professionals with 15+ years of experience who are interested in aiding the career development of younger professionals. Mentees For young geologic professionals with 0-10 years of experience who are interested in growing their career path and network. Mentees should be willing to take the initiative in this relationship, recognizing that benefits are weighted in their favor.

www.RMAG.org has all the resources you need to know what’s new at the RMAG. To start, click on Member Login on the top right of your screen and enter your username and password. If you are on a phone or a tablet, you’ll see three horizontal lines on the top right to click on.

Each tab in the menu contains specific information about us. Use this as a basic reference to find what you need.
Membership: Go here to renew dues, become a member, and find out more about the RMAG membership via the Membership Packet. Events: Find links to RMAG events and details about each event. You can register for events, sponsor events, and find exhibiting information here. Publications: Go here to find the latest issues of The Outcrop, information about The Mountain Geologist, and information about RMAG guidebooks. Guidebooks can be purchased digitally or as a CD in this section. Committees: Information regarding various committees are listed here. Resources: Find information about the RMAG staff, Board of Directors, and organization under the About RMAG section. Under the Resources tab, you can also find information about the RMAG Foundation, Summit Sponsorship, Employment, NGOGP, Volunteering, and Colorado Geology. To donate to the RMAG or the RMAG Foundation, please click the orange Donate tab under the Quicklinks on the right side of the screen.
How to Edit your Profile
1. Login. 2. Once logged in, click on the hyperlink below your nametag entitled My Profile. 3. Scroll down to the information box and click Edit. You can then adjust your basic information, address, phone, and custom fields. 4. Once the page you are on has been filled in, click Save at the top on the page.

Accessing the Membership Directory 1. Login. 2. Once logged in, hover over the Connections Tab. 3. You can choose to Browse the Membership Directory or do an Advanced Search.

Login Once logged in, click on the hyperlink below your nametag entitled My Profile. You’ll now be on the home page for your profile. Hover over the My Profile tab. Click on the Submissions option on the dropdown. You’ll now see all submissions with the event name, date purchased, amount paid, and the invoice ID. 7. Click on the invoice ID number you’d like to view. You’ll be guided to a paid “invoice” which acts as your receipt. 8. You can then choose to download it and print it.
Social Database
Create an online network! The new database acts a hybrid of Facebook and LinkedIn just for current RMAG members. You can upload a profile picture, connect with members online, join circles, share pictures, and control you privacy settings. Add as a Connection - To add someone as a connection, click on Membership Directory, find the person you would like to add, and click Add as a Connection. Write Messages - Connect with other members by writing them a message. Go to Inbox, Write, select who you would like to send a message to from your Connection List, and write your message. Display Photos - Have any geology based photos you want to share? Upload photos by going to My Features, Photos, and then clicking the Upload Photo tab. Message Board - Post messages and view messages on the Message Board. Click on the My Community tab to view and write messages.

Laurence Brundall published the first RMAG Newsletter in 1951. This was the beginning of the Outcrop.
