WelcomeDr.JulianYang,ChiefMedicalOfficer

We are thrilled to announce that Julian Yang, MD, MBA, will be joining the Research Medical Center leadership team as Chief Medical Officer beginning August 1. Dr. Yang is well-suited to take on challenges and support, and help us advance our mission ofproviding exceptional, high-complexity patient care to our surrounding communities. Dr. Yang will come to us after serving the last four years as ChiefMedical Officer at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Prior to this role, he served as Medical Director for the Neurosciences Clinical Service Unit at Duke University Health System, and Director of Tele-Neurology at the University ofTexas Southwestern Medical Center and Medical School in Dallas. We are excited to welcome Dr. Yang to the RMC family!Additionally, we're grateful to Dr. Terry Simon for his expert service as Interim ChiefMedical Officer. Dr. Simon will continue to support us until Dr. Yang is in place. Thank you, Dr. Simon!

Patient Testimonial: George "Steve" Remund

In September of2022, George "Steve" Remund suffered a ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) and cardiac arrest. Thanks to the quick action ofhis wife, Diana, who performed bystander CPR guided by a KCFD EMS dispatcher, he was able to live long enough to be brought to Research Medical Center where he was provided life-saving care by Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Alec Weisberg. First Cardiac Ablation CatheterProcedure Performed in Midwest

Congratulations to Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Dr. Rakesh Gopinathannair and the cardiology department for performing the first cardiac TactiFlex Ablation Catheter procedure in the Midwest last Friday. Two patients benefited from this procedure which was shown to decrease procedure times by an average of40 minutes. This efficacy will allow the EP labs to treat more patients safely with confidence and a high rate offirst pass isolation.

Madie Anderson, RN for the Grossman Burn Center at RMC, was featured in HCA Healthcare Magazine where she provided her insight to powering the progress of burn care. She has received accolades for her compassionate care, including a recent DAISY Award. Her knowledge and curiosity has helped her gain more confidence in performing the difficult task of dressing changes, which can be laborious and extremely painful for the patient. Read more.

2023 Juneteenth Cultural Parade and Heritage Festival

Our RMC colleagues joined the wider HCA Midwest Health network to walk in last weekend's Juneteenth Parade, which commemorates the end ofslavery in the United States.

KCPD LGBTQ+ Liaison Speaks at RMC

On Tuesday, we had the privilege ofwelcoming Alex Saragusa, KCPD LGBTQ+ Liaison, who spoke to our colleagues about building trust and partnerships with members ofthe LGBTQ+ community, and learning how to better serve this community with compassion and understanding. Thank you Jennifer Wegner, RN Liaison with Sarah Cannon Cancer Center, for organizing this important and timely discussion.

Join the LGBTQ+ Colleague Network, our Research College of Nursing colleagues and our division and facility DEICouncil members to support this year’s KC Pride activities. You can complete the Galen College of Nursing's online RN to BSN program with zero out-of-pocket expenses. Galen will directly bill HCA Healthcare for your tuition expenses.

With Galen and HCA Healthcare having formed the largest academic practice partnership in the country, new students seeking an online RN to BSN degree are required to attend Galen College ofNursing.

Note: This program is not available in all states. Books and fees may be billed separately. The value of the HCA HealthcareGalenGrant may be taxable to recipients in some circumstances.

John Krajicek, ChiefFinancial Officer, was the AOC this past weekend. He stayed in contact with the Nursing Supervisor throughout the whole weekend to provide support to the hospital when and where needed.
