Great Save Event

On Thursday, May 25, RMC hosted its annual Great Save Event during EMS Week. This year we celebrated the reunion of cardiology patient Steve Remund, trauma patient Ramoni Burns-Driskell, and stroke patient Elizabeth White with their EMS crews, RMC care teams, and physicians, including Interventional Cardiologist Dr. Aaron Doonan, Trauma Surgeons Dr. John Chipko and Dr. Mark Lieser, and Neurologist Dr. Ashish Kulhari who provided life-saving care. We value the support and our partnership with local and regional EMS departments and the care they provide on the frontlines with critical patients Read more.

Patient Testimonial: Elizabeth White, Stroke

As Stroke Awareness Month comes to an end, Elizabeth White and her husband, Dave, want to remind you to always BE FAST. In February 2023, Elizabeth suffered a stroke. Due to the quick action of her husband, who spotted the signs of a stroke and wasted no time in calling 911, Elizabeth's life was saved. Read more about her story and learn how Neurologist Dr. Ashish Kulhari was able to perform a mechanical thrombectomy to not only save her life, but improve her outcomes and recovery.

CVPR Ribbon Cutting

The RMC CV team celebrated the opening of the new Cardiovascular Prep and Recovery (CVPR) area with a ribbon cutting and open house last week. They were able to showcase the new 14-bed unit that allows our facility to focus on complex cardio procedures within one space with dedicated cardiac nurses caring for patients. This new unit expands our capacity for CV services while allowing us to maintain a simplified scheduling process and ability to provide timely feedback to our referring providers.

We Show Up for Community

2023 Juneteenth Cultural Parade and Heritage Festival

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. The Emancipation Proclamation officially went into effect on January 1, 1863, but it wasn’t until June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas to announce the end of the Civil War that those enslaved in Texas learned of their freedom and rejoiced. The impromptu celebration has become a yearly event observed by generations of Black families and is a day to reflect, rejoice, and educate.

Join the Black Colleague Network and walk in the Juneteenth parade on June 3 or volunteer at our booth on June 17.

2023 KC Pride Festival and Parade

Join the LGBTQ+ Colleague Network, our Research College of Nursing colleagues and our division and facility DEI Council members to support this year’s KC Pride activities. You and your family members are invited to join team HCA Midwest Health and walk in the parade on June 10 or volunteer at our booth June 9-11.

DAISY Award Winner: Lauren Bultmann

Congratulations to Lauren Bultmann, RN, 7E, for receiving April's DAISY Award. Her nominator said, "she is always kind and encouraging with her students or even with families who aren’t knowledgeable about diagnosis. I’ve seen her spend hours giving anatomy lessons and printing out literature to help her patient's family understand. Not only does she help their family, but she is the RN you want in your corner if you are in crisis!"

Proud to Be RMC T-shirts

You asked. We listened. Due to the high demand of Proud to Be RMC t-shirts, we are happy to provide two additional ways to obtain a t-shirt. If you were unable to attend a Town Hall session, please speak to your leader about options to obtain a free one through Friday, June 9.

You are also able to purchase the t-shirt at the Gift Shop for $18 with $5 from each purchase donated to the ECHO Fund.

Lab Welcomes Two Texas Tech Interns

The Research Medical Center lab recently welcomed two students from Texas Tech University to undertake their clinical laboratory rotation. This rotation offers the students a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various departments, including chemistry, microbiology, Flow cytometry, hematology, and blood bank. At RMC's laboratory, we take pride in providing a distinctive learning experience by exposing students to our complex testing procedures. As a Level 1 Trauma Center, we offer an advanced educational environment that allows students to explore cutting-edge techniques and technologies in the field.

Administrator on Call (AOC)

ACNO Lindsay Goldammer was the AOC over the weekend. She rounded in the hospital early on Sunday morning to see night shift as well as day shift. Many were in good spirits despite the difficult staffing that we worked through. She met with the ER night shift and connected with the CNC's that were in staffing. The House Supervisor and I were in constant contact throughout the entire weekend when she was not in the facility. Thank you to everyone who spent their holiday weekend here taking care of our patients. We are grateful for you!
