While DC Ranch is strengthening its protective barrier to try to prevent wildland to urban fires, there are many resources available for residents to stay educated about fire prevention in and around residential neighborhoods. The National Fire Protection Association, Scottsdale Fire Department, and personal insurance companies all provide guidance for keeping homes safe from fire dangers.

• Ensure all backyard fires, fireplaces and grills are completely extinguished after use.

• Do not burn debris, vegetation clippings or trash.

• Keep lawns watered and landscaping healthy.

• Remove flammable objects from front and back yards and store items properly—at least 30 feet away from the residence for maximum safety.

• Maintain landscaping per the DC Ranch Standards on personal property to ensure fires cannot “jump” to unmaintained vegetation.

• When modifying the exterior of a residence, use appropriate materials for fire-resistance and protection.

• Inquire with residential insurance companies about insurance deals available for at-home fire protection.

As school starts and new routines begin, residents can anticipate an increase in traffic. DCR-24 Speeding states all persons traveling on DC Ranch private roads must obey the speed limit. The DC Ranch speed limit is 15 mph unless posted otherwise. DC Ranch does not enforce speeds on Legacy Boulevard, Thompson Peak Parkway and the South loop of Desert Camp Drive, which are public thoroughfares monitored by the Scottsdale Police Department. With kids soaking up the last days of summer break, it is important to bring play equipment in the house, garage, or behind a barrier wall after every use, and keep all other personal items stored. DCR-25 Storage of Personal Items requires that all personal items must be stored out of public view, either behind a fence or inside the garage. This includes, but is not limited to, items such as ladders, bicycles, toys, sports equipment, building materials, etc.
