We sit behind a screen, days on end. Our visions curated by programs easy to comprehend. A static mouse click. Informs the placement of a brick. Restrained by a medium. There is a cap placed on our premium. Creativity dependant on a set of tools, Change is born by a break in the rules.
This artifact interrupts the projects plan. A 1:200 plan was projected onto a 1524x1219 canvas. The rooms, the dwellings are explored with translucency. An elongated courtyard, like that of an alley becomes the destination and terminal of the brush stroke. A new living is described through the overlap. A dense, impasto array of colours representative of the ‘coming together’ Indicative of diverse age, culture, religion and with the capacity for ritual. The context is presented as it is. Solid blocks describe an entitlement to space. High fences, high exclusion, and limited civic return. The proposition functions as an invitation to the civic, in doing so the boundaries of its surroundings bleed overtime. The narrative of the dignified exit is described, a ceremonial wandering with views over the boulevard; a journey to an exit accompanied by loved ones. It is said that ‘major project should explore ideas and processes that you will carry into practice’. After 15 weeks of intense research and drawing, It was incredible to step away from the computer, expressing the projects findings through a new medium. Whilst erratic, the brush moves, the markings rested at equilibrium with the body of this project. When I considered how I wanted to conclude my studies at RMIT, it seemed only fitting to go out this way. OIL ON CANVAS : 1524 X 1219
