Jane Addams; Social Worker Extraordinaire working for the betterment of our world to be won; For the poverty-stricken and homeless youths and orphans by the millions Had been cast upon garbage-filled streets, open sewer ghettos, in sum,

To face their fate of death, disease, oblivion. Yet at her Chicago Hull-House, for the poor their social sanctum, Where the unwashed, unfed, unemployed poor—began ascension By the tens of thousands found a home, found love, found redemption. There she led the penniless, the forsaken — To learn and earn the means to better lives, to live with a higher wisdom. As a leader of leaders, she brought together all together in unions Whereby impoverished peoples, nations might labor as one For international peace, prosperity and freedom.

“For True Peace is not merely the absence of war become— It is the presence of justice according to Truth done.

Thus, we stand today united in a belief in beauty, genius, and courage begun— That these are what can transform the world unto fellowship’s salvation. Since any good we secure for ourselves is precarious and uncertain, Until it is secured for all of us—incorporated into our common communion. Then let us pray unto God, let us discuss how to make earth into heaven, Vowing that the sole test of time as to our spirituality shall ever be Taking Action.” Ever Shining forth the Spirit of Perfection: Jane Addams.
