ART ENTHUSIAST Kunstliefhebber Appassionato d’arte Art enthusiast Three down, one to go. I’m so close to seeing every Egon Schiele painting housed in Vienna. I’ve been to the Leopold, the Belvedere, and the Osterreichisches Galerie. I’m rushing to the Albertina. My train leaves in 2 hours, and it will take me 30 minutes to get to the main station. I’m packed, but I want to see ‘The Embrace’ before I leave. I’ve already spent over 50 euro on museums and galleries in Vienna alone, but it’s worth every penny to stand in front of one of Schiele’s paintings. As I approach the museum, it looks suspiciously quiet. It’s is closing, they’re no longer letting visitors in. I can’t believe it. I won’t accept it. I march up, determined to get in, and the guard looks at me, determined to leave. She says “das Museum ist geschlossen,” and all I can manage to croak out between pants is, “Bitte!!” She laughs at me, and then shakes her head. I explain that I’m leaving the country in an hour, but I refuse to leave without viewing it. She cocks her head and tells me there is nothing she can do. I plead, bitte! Now she’s annoyed, but I won’t take no for an answer. After several minutes of begging in English and broken German, she harshly tells me OK, I can view it for 1 minute. I thank her six times, race up the stairs, and after about 30 seconds, I am escorted out of the building. So worth it. Sheila, my father’s mother is a sculptor and musician, playing in both worlds of abstraction and realism. Willem, my mother’s father is an avid art collector whose paintings, now hanging in museums, sustain his retirement. My grandparents influenced my parents to cover every wall in my home with a variety of art, predisposing me to become an art enthusiast. My love for art is evident in the way I dress, what I studied, where I’ve worked, and how I spend my time.

Web Design Overview

A New York based vintage poster dealerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s website, built to showcase her collection and provide information regarding pieces and contact information for clients. I built the website using HMTL5, CSS3 and minimal PHP for the contact page. Wireframes were created in Adobe InDesign.

Here as an image of the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;categoriesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; page. The site separates posters by category, artist and format. There is a rotating hover effect on the linked images, which intends to give the site a more three dimensional, gallery-like feel.

CURIOUS Niewsgierig Curiosa Curious

I’m sweating with this 50 pound backpack weighing down my shoulders, and this train is so cramped that I can’t even get to my seat. An older man ahead of me forces his way past a young woman with a lot of luggage and manages to knock all her things to the ground. She shoves him out of anger, and he responds with a slap across her face. This initiates a brawl in this sticky, narrow corridor of a night train heading from Krakow to Warsaw. Fortunately for me, the fight clears the hallway just enough for me to squeeze past to my seat between a sleeping child and a long-legged old man. The man and his travel buddy are chatting in Polish, and shortly after the train starts moving, a large bottle of vodka emerges from and overstuffed bag. The heavier man sitting across from my neighbor speaks just enough English to ask me about myself: where I’m from and where I’m headed. Instead of taking a much intended nap, I find myself drinking vodka, eating homemade chicken wings and learning Polish curse words from two round Polish men at 2 AM on my way to Berlin. I am not complacent in my own bubble. I am a very observant and interested person. I seek diversity, and I never want to stay put for long. Curiosity led me to study in Milan, Italy, and to go on a month-long solo backpacking tour through Eastern Europe. It influences my work and my perspective.

Website & App design Overview

shift This was a collaborative project with 3 product design students. The project was completed for Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti. I am responsible for the graphic design and the design of the application and website. All wireframes were created using Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. The concept of this project was to develop a system for dorms for young design students studying abroad in Italy that they could customize to their needs. It was designed to be an evolving space, as the studentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s needs are constantly evolving.

COMPASSIONATE Medelijdend Simpatica Compassionate

My palms are sweating as I see Mrs. Perry, my fourth grade English teacher, approaching my desk with a blank test in her hand. My best friend, Molly, is sitting at her desk to my right. Her face is pale and her eyes are wide. I nudge her and ask her as quietly as I can, “What’s wrong?” She looks at me, fear in her eyes, and admits that she forgot a pencil and can’t take the test without a writing implement. I look at her panicked face, and without even thinking I hand her my pencil. I see a wave of relief wash over her and she offers me a grateful smile. I feel happy that I was able to ameliorate her discomfort. Just as soon as the joy settles in, the test lands on my desk in front of me. That’s when I realize, I no longer have a pencil and cannot take the test. While I no longer give up my pencil so that I can’t take my own exam, my empathy for others informs my work and makes me a better designer and person.

This was a project for Parsons the New School for Design. The assignment was to choose an object, map itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s history in a time line and then create a stop motion film showing itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s life cycle. LINGUIST ik ben een taalkundige sono un linguista I am a linguist

It’s starting to drizzle now. I’ve been standing in this line for 45 minutes and I still can’t see the entrance up ahead. I start to slip away into a daydream, when I hear Dutch being spoken in front of me. This excites me because I hear it so infrequently outside of my home, and it’s even more unexpected to hear it being spoken in Barcelona. I start listening in to the young couple in front of me complain in Dutch to one another about how long it’s taking. That’s when I notice the family in front of them, with two young children who are whining about their feet hurting in Italian. I am stilling learning Italian, so I have to make a special effort to understand everything, but much to my surprise, I do! There is another family behind me, a young girl with her mother and grandfather. They are American and the mother is telling her daughter that it shouldn’t be much longer. It was a very special feeling to be in a foreign city by myself, listening to the people around me speak three different languages, all of which I can understand, and we all have the same thoughts. I was raised speaking two languages, Dutch and English, and learned to speak Italian during my studies in Milan. I see design and coding as languages as well, both of which I have learned in an academic environment. Every language opens up a world of opportunities and possibilities. The beauty is that there is always more to learn, and consequently, more to experience.

Research Project Overview

Flinder began as my senior thesis for Parsons. It is a research project that is the precursor for nonprofit matching site for individuals to find organizations based on their location, the causes they care about, and what they are able to give. The research was performed online, at The Foundation Center, through surveys and informal interviews. All wireframes were made in Adobe InDesign.

The landing page was launched in February 2014. It has the logo, name, mission statement and option to join a mailing list which updates users on updates on the websiteâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s progress. Landing page built using HTML5 and CSS3. Logo design done in Adobe Illustrator in collaboration with Sarah Lallemand.
