MEET OUR 2017 RAB PRESIDENT Karen Blissenbach Design Studio B Owner/Design Principal
What is your hometown? Wanamingo, MN Family: Two sweet children – Easton 13 & Hailey 10 Two riding horses – Tootie 29 & Ellie 23 One happy dog – Lilly 6 One fat (indoor) Cat – Snickers 13 One spunky (indoor) Kitten – Twix – 6 months Two pigmy goats – Tweetie & Tootoo 9 months Six laying hens – Pearl and her cronies – 9 months Two lionhead rabbits – Patricia and Priscilla – 9 months One redheaded boyfriend – Mike 40 How many years have you been a member of RAB? 15 When you’re not working, what is your favorite thing to do? Just being outside…going for walks or simply taking care of all the miscellaneous “things” that need to get done around “the farm”. Where did you receive your training for your position in the industry? North Dakota State University, Fargo ND
4
My first job was: I worked at a Professional Arabian Horse Farm outside of Cannon Falls, Prestige Arabians - (I took care of showhorses and traveled with the trainer to shows in the 5 state area). BTW that is where I got Tootie. My favorite junk food is: Chocolate Who is your favorite sports team? Vikings Briefly state why RAB is important to you or your story of how you became a board member: Being involved in RAB has been pivotal for my business in Rochester. I have developed many friendships and business relationships through RAB that I will eternally be grateful for this organization. Speaking of those relationships I can credit Diane Quinn for introducing me to RAB and inviting me to get involved. I have continually served on many committees and was a part of bringing new events to RAB such as the Remodelers Home Tour and Studs, Struts and Stilettos. After 12 years of being active I found myself at a table with Diane Quinn at the October general membership meeting and they were looking for new board members, I briefly asked Diane what that was about and she said you should do it, it will be fun, so here I am!
FOUNDATIONS December 2016 - January 2017
One of the best gifts I ever received was: A fishing pole for my 8th birthday from my Dad (even though it was Feb. I thought that was the best thing ever – my very own pole!) On my refrigerator, I keep: Nothing (sometimes inside has nothing as well!) What did you want to be when you grew up? Ironically an Interior Designer. However, when I was about 6 or 7 I wanted to be a truck driver, I loved the TV show B.J. and the Bear.

More Voters Leads to Better Codes Fire sprinkler mandates will stay in the International Residential Code, but builders and developers will see other construction cost savings after more than 162,000 votes were cast for 577 proposals on the ballot for the International Code Council’s 2016 Online Governmental Consensus Vote, which ended November 27th. After weeks of phone calls and personal visits, NAHB members were successful in pushing the results to reflect the point of view of the Code Official, rather than that of the product manufacturer. “This shows the value of our association as the consistent voice for safe, cost-effective construction – and being the voice for home buyers,” said NAHB Construction, Codes and Standards Chairman Phil Hoffman. Click HERE to see the preliminary results and highlights to the 2018 editions of International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Energy Conservation Code, and International Fire Code.
