Shonaghsays:“I’mabigfanofDragRaceandIwas
watchingtheshowwhenIreceivedthemessagefrom TheVivienne.Itwasmyfirstexperiencedoing editorialwork.Itwashighfashion,andIlovedit.It wasaprivilege.”
TohaveTheVivienneinherhouseforfittingswasa bitsurreal.AlthoughShonaghdidn’tkeeptrackofthe numberofhoursshespentcreatingtheshow-stopping gown,ittooksixweekswithmultiplehoursperday,so itwasasignificantcommitment.TheViviennewent ontowintheepisode,soitwasallworthit.

Shonagh’srouteintofashionhasbeen unconventional.Shebeganknittingin2017when shewashospitalisedforaperiodoftime.Shesays:“I neededsomethingcreativetokeepmegoing.Ibegan knitting.Itwastherapeuticandcalming.”Theyarn keptgettingchunkierandShonaghkeptpractising untilshefoundheruniquecrochetlaceeffect.
Asaveganandsomeonewholivesamindful sustainablelifestyle,usinganimalwoolwouldn’t havemadeShonaghhappy,soshesourcedan alternativethat’skindtotheenvironment. Sheusesaplantbasedbio-nylonthat biodegradesbetweenfiveand10years.
Itdoesn’tcauseplasticpollutionandismadeusinga closedloopsystemre-usingwater.It’salsoincredibly softandnotatallitchy.Shonagh’swellawareofthe massivenegativeimpactthefashionindustryhason theenvironment–itsfootprintisbiggerthan aviationandshippingcombinedandshe’skeennot tocontributetothat.Shonehasbeenawardedthe VeganSociety’sVeganTrademarkwhichisglobally recognisedacrossmultipleindustries,including textilesandfashion,aswellasfood,drinkand cosmetics.TheTrademark’srigorousstandards makeiteasierforconsumerstomakeinformed purchasingdecisions.
