ElmhurstBalletSchool’scentenarysummerballfeaturesamenucuratedby BirminghamMichelin-starchefGlynnPurnell,workingwiththeNECGroup’sawardwinningeventcaterersAmadeus.The11JulyeventtakesplaceduringElmhurst’s runofsummershows,titledCentury.Glynnsaid:“I’msopleasedtobeableto contributetocelebrating100yearsofElmhurstandhavetheopportunitytobring theatricalityandelegancetothedinnertable.”

TheMADEFestivalisreturningtoitsoriginalcitysiteinBirminghamthis summer.Theevent,nowinitsninthyear,willtakeplaceonSaturday29 JulyintheDigbethTriangleaftersuccessfuloutingsatSandwellValley CountryParkin2021andWolverhamptonRacecoursein2022.Festival directorPeteJordansaid:“TheplanwasalwaystoreturntoBirmingham. WhenIarrivedinBirminghamin2011myfirst impressionwasexcitement.MyfirstjobandIwas movingtothesecondcitywheretherewassuchabuzz forcultureandart.Whathasquicklybecomemy favouritethingisthenumberofvenueswhereyoucan watchshows,etc…onenightattheHippodrome,the othertheAlex,thenSymphonyHallontothearena thenthe02venues.There’ssomuchonthedoorstep. SometimesIstruggletojusthaveanightathome.

DOWNTIME

Ilovecooking,bakingandmakingpasta.Spadays alwaysgodownwell,asdoesafternoonteaandlotsof walkingaroundBirmingham.Andgoodmusic–I’ma hugefanofClassicFMandSmoothChill.

FINALLY…

There’smuchIwillmisswhenIleaveBirmingham asI’vespentallofmy20shere.Lotsofmemories wrappedupinthiswonderfulcityandmanypeople who’vemadeitspecial.BirminghamandBRBwill alwaysbemyspiritualhome. ■
