Ileadthegroundsteamthatlooksafterthe14-acre sitethatmakesupEdgbastonPrioryClub.Wehave32 tenniscourtsofvaryingsurfaces,aswellaslargeareas ofmanagedlawns,shrubbedsandborders,hedges, treesandseasonalflowerdisplays,allofwhichfalls undertheremitofourgroundsteam.Juneisprobably thebusiestperiod,whenwehosttheRothesay BirminghamClassicTenniseventonourgrasscourts. Preparationgoesonallyearbutit’snotunusualfor ourteamtowork100-hourweeksforatleastamonth aroundtheevent.

Professionally,therelationshipwehavewithHeartof BirminghamVocationalCollege(HBVC)reallystands out.Eightyearsago,westartedworkingwiththemto providesomeoccasionalworkexperienceonceaweek onthegroundsteam.Nowwehavesupportedinterns
learninginmultipledepartmentswithintheclub.Based onourrelationshipasaclub,Ihaveendedupwiththe privilegeofbeingthechairofgovernorsforthecollege, whichissomethingIfindmassivelyfulfilling.
