Creating academic excellence through community engagement
A locally based solution for the benefit of pupils and families within their communities
Welcome to the Hamwic Trust I would like to welcome you to the Hamwic Trust and introduce you to our organisation. As Chief Executive, I have responsibility for the organisation of the Trust and the academies within it. Working alongside a strong Executive Team, talented School Leaders and a dedicated Managed Services team, I co-ordinate the work of the schools on behalf of the Directors and staff members who represent our community. Hamwic is a community based organisation bringing schools together through Multi Academy Trusts in order to serve their local geographic areas. The Trust was founded on the principle of the academies working collaboratively together for the benefit of our communities and students.
Our Directors, School Leaders, Staff and Governors take a collective responsibility for academic outcomes and the well-being of all our students. At Hamwic we are passionate about the central role of education in improving individual life chances for children and young people. We bring professional expertise and experience to secure the highest possible achievement for all. We believe in a local education whilst taking account of national and international perspectives. I hope you share our sense of excitement to pursue the opportunities that will further build on the successes of the Hamwic Trust to meet the needs of our local communities, within the context of an ever changing educational landscape.

Case Studies “The chance to be a leader in another team of teaching professionals and make a positive contribution to benefit another group of children has been fantastic. I was very lucky, in my previous school, to have been given the opportunity and support to develop my leadership through bespoke training and ongoing coaching, resulting in opportunities to then mentor, lead and support others on their journey to become good/outstanding teachers. Secondment to a school where I could ‘give back’ has been truly rewarding for me and a recent and very positive Ofsted Inspection reflects the part my secondment has contributed to the whole school community.
The exciting thing about secondment opportunities is that they are flexible; usually for a fixed short term initially. In my experience, this was the best part of the opportunity and because the secondment was within a Trust, there have been CPD gatherings between the schools. Apart from keeping in touch with colleagues, networking across the schools becomes easier and more beneficial for all. I would recommend the experience without reservation and am now Deputy Head Teacher at Gatcombe Park Primary School.”

September 2016
“I was looking for a new challenge having been the Deputy Head at Shirley Infant School for four years and having successfully completed the NPQH. I was offered a secondment to Harefield Primary School as Head of School for a year. A fantastic experience in a new setting with a range of different challenges. I then applied for the interim Headship role at Wordsworth Primary which was to join JET in October 2014. A growth school in a new building and a very different setting. New challenges and issues but seemingly many successes as I now have a longer contract! To be able to contribute as part of the leadership team in three schools within a short period has been both exciting and rewarding. My career path would not have been possible outside of a multi academy. The opportunities offered have arisen as a consequence of the Hamwic schools working closely together in an open and collaborative environment and in the knowledge that by developing me as a professional that the group of schools would benefit as well as me as an individual professional.”

April 2015
“I joined the organisation in September 2012 as HR Manager. Although incredibly passionate about Human Resources (HR), I had always wondered what it would be like working as a School Business Manager. I thought a secondment would allow me the chance to have a hands on position within school ‘doing’, rather than ‘advising’. During 2014, I had the opportunity to find out. Intense training sessions were provided, particularly in the areas of finance and health and safety. For the first time, I was responsible for maintaining a whole school budget. Although fairly new to the world of finance, the training gave me the knowledge and confidence needed in order to generate management accounts and follow month end finance processes. Whilst undertaking the secondment, I attended university to study for a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. My contribution was welcomed, strategic input encouraged and I felt valued. I have developed strong working relationships with senior management, Business Managers and Headteachers. I believe the success of my role is partly down to the secondment opportunity that I had. Studying for a professional qualification of course added weight to that. I am fortunate to work for an organisation that is passionate about giving youngsters the best opportunities in life, that cares about its staff and who have programmes in place to support staff development. The secondment was an invaluable learning experience.”
