Performance Time

Monthly Objective

Theater Space: Preparing for a year-end performance is one of the most exciting things for dancers. Many stages, like the one we will be going to, have a large space with lots of chairs called the Audience. The Audience faces the stage, that is usually lifted up off the ground. There are many moving parts and technology in a theater including, wires, ropes, big doors and huge curtains so we have to be careful where we are walking and always pay

attention!

Behind, or sometimes even under the stage is a dressing room. Dancers use this space to to get ready and stay warm for their time on stage.

wings

On the side of the stage there are curtains called , this is where dancers wait their turn to go on to the stage and dance. We must be careful not to touch the curtains because they wiggle and shake. Also be careful because if you can see the audience, then the audience can see you and we don’t want to detract from what’s happening on stage in the moment.

Monthly Concept

Performance Choreography Choreography The art of composing ballets and other dances and planning and arranging the movements, steps and patterns of dancers. A few important reminders to ensure learning your choreography and performing with confidence are: • Be on time for all rehearsals and for the performance. • Be well rested for rehearsals and the performance. No parties, sleepovers, etc. the night before you go to the theater. • Eat healthy before coming to the theater. • Drink plenty of water at all times. No sodas. • Be prepared to wait your turn to dance. • Be as quite as possible while waiting. • If you get too excited or nervous, take several slow, deep breaths. • Please use the restroom before dressing. • Please use dance manners and keep your hands to yourself. • Remember — for safety — no running, doing gymnastics, standing on chairs, etc. • No eating or drinking in costume before or during the show. • Be polite, and mind the person in charge. • • Smile! The audience wants to see that you enjoy your dancing and that it • makes you feel good! 28

Rockland School of Ballet’s Frog Princess Awards An Annual End of Year Ceremony and Celebration Every dancer enjoys the thrill of praise; the pride in achievement. Every dancer’s response to the Frog Princess Awards will be positive, immediate, and tangible. Every dancer is acknowledged - from the exceptional to the average - all seek recognition for their endeavors. Parents have the opportunity to see their children dance on their own, in an environment that is not competitive. Dancers maintain interest and enthusiasm over a period of years as they progress from level to level.

The Frog Princess Awards is a ready-made program of choreography that sets attainable goals for achievement. The Frog Princess Awards are a series of age- and level-appropriate distinctive choreographic compositions that students perform before an audience of parents and friends.

A most important aspect of the Frog Princess Awards is that they are NOT competitive - each student receives a medal, and a certificate. The Frog Princess Awards are a stress-free, enjoyable experience for teachers, dancers, and parents alike.

The fee is modest.

No heavy outlay for costumes: the dancers perform in their leotards. The entire learning process of the variations and the actual performance are a joyous experience for dancers.

Please mark your calendar! This year’s Frog Princess Awards will be Saturday, May 28, 2016
