Michelle + Jon mount engadine lodge, canmore
After meeting over a few drinks and shared conversation, the rest was history for Jon and Michelle. Fast forward five years where Tim + Court Photo and Film captured this gorgeous couple’s romantic wedding day, set to the stunning backdrop of the Rocky Mountains in Canmore. The couple had an intimate gathering at Mount Engadine of 30 family members and close friends. The florist, Blissful Blooms created bouquets filled with pastel colours and lush greenery to match the surrounding scenery. Truly a day to remember, Jon and Michelle’s sparkler-lit first dance put the stars in the sky that evening.

A L B E RTA R O C K I E S 1 0 1 Advice for a perfect trip to Kananaskis, Banff, Canmore, and Lake Louise featuring favorite local spots. Like all of Alberta, the weather can change in the blink of an eye. Planning ahead can make all of the difference.
film and forest photography
S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R With its close proximity to snow dusted mountains and Lake Louise, Banff shines as an ideal wedding location in the Candian Rockies. From June to August, the weather is warm and sunny, making it the most popular time of the year to tie the knot. If you are looking for that summer wedding vibe and plenty of rays, August might be your best bet with average temps around 22°C. On the other hand, if you are wanting a cozy and cool ambiance to your day, look to December when the town is often blanketed with snow. For a more moody day, check out March and June. While there is a chance of rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months, sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony, and reminding guests to drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.
ACTIVITIES Head for the mountains to get your heart pumping and to take in the stunning scenery. Kananaskis, Canmore and Banff are all prime hiking locales with a good variety of trails throughout this area of the mountains. Nearby Banff, Sundance Canyon Trail is a moderate 10 kilometre loop trail, or if you are staying near Canmore, Upper Grassi Lakes Trail Loop is an easy 4.3 kilometer hike with views of Whitemans Pond. Feel the crisp air on your skin and feel refreshed as you plunge from hot, warm and cool pools in the hydrotherapy loop at Kananaskis Nordic Spa. Open 365 days a year, you might be met with a blanket of snow or warm summer rays. Pair your stay with a deep tissue or aromatherapy massage to melt away any stress then grab a bite to eat to refuel your body at Two Trees Bistro. Less than 60 kilometers from Banff, Lake Louise is a mecca for adventurers with emerald green water and towering rugged peaks. From ice skating and sleigh rides in the winter to canoeing and hiking in the summer, Lake Louise offers something for everyone in every season. The scenic beauty of Lake Louise is unmatched and is highlighted by the glow of the sun as it dips behind Mount Victoria.

Make it official In the province of Alberta, you can get your registration of marriage and marriage license at any registry agent office. Your partner and you must both be in attendance with proper identification. You will be asked multiple questions while you are there such as when and where are you getting married or if you’ve had any previous marriages. It will cost $40, and you must be married within three months of receiving the license. The province of Alberta does not require you to be a resident, but it does require two witnesses at the ceremony. Your officiant will need to send the signed registration of marriage form to Vital Statistics within 48 hours of the ceremony.

Local Wedding Inspiration
Sara + Riley sage bistro, canmore
Sara and Riley got engaged while on vacation in Vancouver. The pair watched the Brahm’s Tams Drum Circle at sunset, after which Riley proposed. Their wedding day can be best described as retro, bohemian, rustic chic - think bright sunflowers, crocheted lace and big round sunnies. Breeze Photography captured the vintage feel of the entire ceremony, and Twyla, the officiant, put together a memorable sand ceremony that perfectly complemented the vibes of the day.

Sara sourced the decor from antique stores and thrift shops to match the wedding theme. Personal touches included a special locket of the bride’s grandmother’s ashes tied around her bouquet. For the sweet tooth in the crowd, the wedding featured an expansive donut wall and a delicious cake. Guests were provided with tiny jars filled with chocolate rocks, along with handkerchiefs for the ceremony. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house!

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE
“If you’re getting married in Banff or Canmore, book your venue as soon as possible! Things get busy. Don’t sweat the small stuff - it won’t matter in the moment. Remember to take a few moments to connect, just the two of you, on the day of your wedding. Everything is so busy and goes by in a flash! Take it all in.”

Q & A with
Rocky Mountain Photo Co. By: Erin Mitschele
What is your favorite part of the job? Making new friends, learning about people from all over the world, and exploring new places! .
Do you have a favorite tool of the trade? OF COURSE! But some things need to be kept secret ;)
Where do you come up with your ideas? Every time I drive anywhere, I’m always scanning landscapes, analyzing light, and ideas just naturally happen. I have used Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration, but I try not to compare myself to other photographers. It’s easy to go down a rabbit hole.
What is one thing you wish you could educate your clients on? The importance of seeing full wedding galleries. The lighting situation changes drastically during a wedding day. From getting ready in a dark hotel room, to the ceremony in bright sunlight, and the reception where flash photography is used, a good photographer will have the knowledge and the equipment to get good photos in all of these conditions. It’s easy for photographers to post 2-3 perfect photos from a wedding. Seeing a photographer’s full album will give couples a much better idea of their overall quality.

Favorite Wedding Moment? When the mom of the bride or groom comes up and hugs me at the end of the night. This melts my heart to know I made an impact on the family and added to their experience as well. Personal vows are my favourite traditional moment. I am an empath, and hearing couples open their hearts and express their unique description of love is an amazing thing that gets me every time.
Worst wedding SNAFU? How did you problem solve? I dropped a wedding ring through a deck while taking detail shots. Thankfully my cousin was a bridesmaid in this wedding, and she found a drill to take a few boards off to grab it. We told the bride (the next day) and all laughed about it. Needless to say, I never take detail shots near small openings or where there is any risk to fall! Lesson learned.
What is your spirit animal? A deer. They represent instinctual energy, independence, and regeneration. You are sensitive, with a strong intuition. You have the power to overcome challenges with grace. You master the art of being both determined and gentle in your approach.
