EDITOR’S LETTER

congrats to our cover couple!

Being born and raised in Colorado, I found my love for the Rockies in a state that holds so many beautiful places. Through the years, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many of the other states across the Rockies and have found a certain charm to all of them. Something about the fresh air blowing through the evergreens, or the sand blowing across the Southwest deserts, and the aqua blue lakes in the north, I couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do!” than the Rockies. As I begin to plan my own Rocky Mountain wedding using RMB, I find myself in awe of the talented local vendors in each pocket of the Rocky Mountain region. I hope that within these pages you will find all the inspiration and tips you need to make your day everything you want it to be. We’ve scouted the best of the best in your area to provide you trusted local vendors. Happy planning! xo

BILLINGS 101 Advice for a perfect Billings trip featuring favorite spots of the area. Planning ahead can make all of the difference for your guests and you.

evan and larissa photography

S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R As the largest city in Montana and surrounded by seven mountain ranges, Billings shines as an ideal wedding location. From June to August, the weather is warm and sunny, making it the most popular time of the year to tie the knot. If you are looking for that warm weather vibe and plenty of rays, July might be your best bet with average temps in the high 80s. On the other hand, if you are wanting a cozy and cool ambiance to your day, look to January or February when the city is often blanketed with snow. For a more moody day, check out March and June. While there is a chance of rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

W H AT T O P A C K Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months or sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony.

ACTIVITIES If you are a fan of micro breweries, the Brewery Brew Trail in downtown Billings is a must! This self-guided, 1.5 mile tour starts along 1st Avenue then loops around to Montana Avenue. Start at Yellowstone Valley Brewing Co. and finish at Mountain Brewing Co., as you stroll down the street enjoying sips from the six breweries, two distilleries and one cider house. Just five miles south of Billings, explore Pictograph Cave State Park, a National Historic Landmark since 1964. The 23-acre park features a short, quarter-mile loop trail that goes by the three caves, Pictograph, Middle and Ghost. Discover the mystery of the extraordinary site as you take in the more than 100 pictographs and discuss their different meanings. Bring binoculars to truly take in all the details of the drawings. Get out of town and check out the Tippet Rise Art Center in Fishtail. Sitting on a 12,000-acre working sheep and cattle ranch against the backdrop of the Beartooth Mountains, Tippet Rise celebrates the cohesive experience of art, music, architecture and nature and its connection to human lives. Tour the sculptures by taking a guided tour by van or without a guide by foot.

Make it Official In the state of Montana, you can get your marriage license at any county clerk’s office. Your partner and you must both be in attendance with proper identification. You will be asked multiple questions while you are there such as when and where are you getting married or if you’ve had any previous marriages. The state of Montana does not require you to be a resident or have a blood test, but it does require two witnesses. It will cost you $53 to be paid at issuance of the license, and the license must be returned within 180 days.

Nicole and Brandon met during a country street dance in Laramie, Wyoming. Bandon asked Nicole to swing dance, and the rest is history! A year and a half later, the two took a trip to Nicole’s home state of South Carolina. One evening, Nicole and Brandon took a stroll through Pitt Street Bridge Park taking in the picturesque surroundings of palm trees and the vast ocean. There Brandon got down on one knee and proposed with the whole thing captured on camera! Nicole and Brandon planned a romantic wedding for May 25th.

“Our favorite moment of our day was when we snuck away from our reception to read our personally written vows in the neighboring horse pasture at sunset. We spent time walking in front of the mountains, meeting the horses, and most importantly sharing our thoughts and feelings in an intimate setting, which made the day so much more meaningful.”

ADVICE FROM THE BRIDE

“If you are planning your wedding during a stressful time in your life, don’t be afraid to push your date back to accommodate the situation. If you are committed to each other, it will not be a big deal and that way you both can participate in the planning!”

Mikayla + Ben m o u n ta i n w i l l o w w e d d i n g s

Mikayla and Ben met on a fortuitous blind date setup by a friend of Mikayla’s family. After seven years of dating, Ben knew Mikayla was the one but just needed the perfect moment to propose. During the summer, the pair went up to a family cabin by Lake Champlain in upstate New York. One night, Mikayla and Ben took a row boat out into the middle of the lake. Under the sparkling night sky, Ben asked her to be his forever! Mikayla and Ben planned a bohemian, outdoor wedding for September 14th.

Jessyka + Stene

real beginnings

Leading up to the proposal, Jessyka and Stene went on a trip to Butte, Montana for the state’s softball tournament, which the high school team Jessyka coached was playing in. Stene was excited for the trip since he had attended Montana Tech in Butte, and he wanted to show Jessyka all his favorite college spots. After their time in Butte, the couple headed to Stene’s grandparents’ ranch to help out for a few days. It was finally time to head home, and the pair decided to take a new way back through the mountains to Billings.

THE PROPOSAL

Taking the scenic route home, Jessyka and Stene took multiple stops to hike around the stunning landscape and capture pictures with the numerous trickling waterfalls throughout the dense forest. After their final waterfall stop, the duo started to hike back down when suddenly Stene grabbed Jessyka’s hand and twirled her around to him. Jessyka was more than shocked to find Stene down on one knee asking her to marry him. Before he even finished asking the question, Jessyka excitedly exclaimed, “Yes!

The Billings Petroleum Club started in 1954 in the basement of the Northern Hotel in downtown Billings. Oilmen and other professionals talked business there for almost 30 years before the Sheraton Hotel was built across the street in 1980. The top floor of the brick masonry was built specifically for the Petroleum Club. Upon it’s completion, the Sheraton Hotel was declared “the tallest load-bearing brick masonry building in the world” by the Brick Institute of America. The Billings Petroleum Club has served it’s members, their children, and their children’s children for over 65 years. A gorgeous remodel was completed in 2016 and serves as Billings only panoramic view of the city and Beartooth mountains.
