EDITOR’S LETTER
While 2020 may have left us all with a few bumps, bruises and lessons learned, I can feel the eager hopefulness that is around the corner as we step into this new year, brimming with bright possibilities and so much love to be celebrated. I’m continually amazed at how all of you, vendors and couples, navigated the twists and turns. Out of all of it, I believe it served as a necessary reminder of what is important and what this industry is truly about at its core- honoring love. Along with all kinds of new beginnings, spring and summer are the ultimate expression of this fresh start that is ushered in so naturally. This magazine takes you into that feeling of longer days celebrating your love with those special to you amongst the gorgeous Rocky Mountains. Table inspirations from incredible florists and planners flush with pops of color and rich palettes are sure to get creative juices flowing as you begin to put together your own wedding inspiration. Venture on a bachelorette trip with your best gals down to one of my very own favorite towns, Salida, spending time on the river and exploring local spots. Take every page in and see what resonates. The pages following are all sparked by the enlivened newness we all feel during this season and are meant to be a return to what is simple and true. As we look to the future of what is ahead, the Rocky Mountain Bride team cannot wait to be a small part in your journey towards a lifetime of love and partnership!

Brooke + Daniel / Great Sand Dunes National Park & Preserve Brooke and Daniel met as young teens at a local bowling alley. During their early high school years the two spent their summers sneaking out, loitering in parks, running through sprinklers and having their parents drive them to movie theaters. Twelve years, adventurous travels and each of their undergrads later, Daniel used Brooke’s idea to go hiking to propose. A bit into their hike, perfectly situated at a scenic overlook, Daniel acted like he was out of breath, stopped for a break and began saying his thoroughly rehearsed proposal. She didn’t think it was real, and chatted with him throughout his intended monologue. He then pulled out the ring and she realized what was really occurring. Brooke said “Yes!” and they went to their favorite local mexican restaurant to get to-go margaritas. Over margaritas, he was able to repeat his proposal speech more collectedly so she could absorb it. Brooke remembers, “It was a beautifully written recount of all the life we have lived together and how excited he was for our future.” Photographer: Sweet Justice Photography | sweetjusticephoto.com Engagement Ring: Ashley Schenkein Jewelry Design | asjewelrydesign.com

What questions should you ask your photographer prior to shooting your engagement photos? “Ask your photographer what their shooting style is like. Some photographers love being more hands-on and directing the look of the shoot, posing, etc. while others want to capture you as a couple in a candid, photojournalistic way – just letting the scenes unfold while you enjoy doing something you’d naturally do together.” - Sweet Justice Photography

25
Should you invest in doing an engagement session with your wedding photographer? “Yes! It’s the best opportunity to get to know each other in an easier setting. Having a photographer that you’ve worked with and trust is just one less thing to stress about on your wedding day!” - Gracie Marie Photo

Natalie + Matt / Boulder Natalie and Matt met through mutual friends at a LANCO country concert in Denver. They locked eyes, got to talking and Matt asked her to dance to the band’s song “Greatest Love Story.” Less than two years later they had a quarantine engagement. Natalie recalls, “Matt had other plans in mind but considering what was going on in the world he adjusted and still managed to make our engagement so special and romantic. After being cooped up since the middle of March, Matt told me we were having a ‘date night’ and to ‘get ready.’ I was so happy for an excuse to get dressed in actual clothes and put some makeup on! Matt pulled over outside of the gardens at Colorado State University’s Center of Performing Arts building which was the original Fort Collins High School. Matt attended Fort Collins High School, played football and now coaches. He took my hand as we started walking through the gardens around to the front of the building. As we approached the historic Fort Collins High School plaque, he got down on one knee to my surprise! He had a dear friend hiding out, taking photos of the whole thing and a bottle of champagne for us!” Photographer: Gracie Marie Photo | graciemariephoto.com Engagement Ring: Neil Lane | neillane.com

How do you choose the best location for your engagement photos? “If there is a spot that holds sentimental value to you, that’s always an incredible option. I’m all about reminiscing, so if you choose a place that you two love together, it makes the shoot more comfortable. Other than that, think about what you two like to do together. If you are outdoorsy and enjoy spending your time in nature, then maybe an epic mountain backdrop is best. If you like to hang out downtown and want a more urban vibe, then it’s always fun to find hidden gems around the city.” - Bridget Burnett Photography

Rachael + Ashley / Golden Rachael and Ashley met while working at a local restaurant in Arvada. They began first as friends and bonded over common interests; snowboarding, skateboarding and their love for adventure and the outdoors. Four years later on the same hike where they had their first date, Ashley had planned to propose at the top of the mountain but nature intervened and the place was covered in flying ants. So as they made their way down, Ashley with their dogs as onlookers, popped the question. Tips FROM THE PHOTOGRAPHERS SHOULD YOU AVOID CERTAIN COLORS OR PATTERNS WHEN PLANNING OUTFITS? The most important part of choosing an outfit is picking something that you feel comfortable in. Whether that's a nice dress or suit or your favorite pair of jeans and a jacket. Other than that, I always tell couples that solid and neutral colors photograph best, but that does not mean you can't wear something out-of-the-box. - Bridget Burnett Photography I always just tell my couples to stay away from super busy patterns. Neutrals are always the way to go in my book. - Gracie Marie Photo It’s important to wear color rather than blacks and whites, however accenting can be a favorable option and helps bring out rich tones. Color really lifts your photographs but which colors can also depend on the location and season. For the mountains during the summer or spring, think colors that will play off the natural tones around you, like oranges, reds, yellows, or blues, purples, and greens during winter or fall. Urban settings tend to have more neutral colors so you can match that or really make a statement with pops of color. Flowy dresses are amazing because when the wind catches them... magic. For the guys, jeans and a button up shirt is flattering, however texture always really amps up a portrait - try layering with a vest, flannel or hat. Most importantly, be you and wear whatever you would normally wear for the activity you have chosen. - Sweet Justice Photography TAYLOR JONES PHOTOGRAPHY
Love is in season.
A good thing to think about is what time of year you would like your photos to be taken. Some want a lovely snowy backdrop, all bundled up. Others like a summer scene with those bright green tones. Another thing to think about is if you want to use these photos for a save the date or your wedding website. Keeping those important dates in mind is crucial for timing. - Bridget Burnett Photography

QUICK TIPS Do things before your shoot that will make you feel relaxed. If that means having a drink beforehand, do it, or listening to your favorite playlist on your way. Just remember that this session is all about you two and your love. Focus on each other, love each other, and remember what got you to this moment. - Bridget Burnett Photography Make the most of your engagement session. You get to have quality time with your partner capturing this short season as an engaged couple. This is a once in a lifetime chance to get a bunch of creative photos you can use throughout your wedding year–save the dates, wedding website, guestbook, wine bottle labels, personalized wedding decor, thank you cards, etc. and at the wedding! - Sweet Justice Photography

CHOOSING THE BROADMOOR “Funny story. Tyler and I knew we wanted a destination wedding but could not decide where. We ended up flipping a coin between Napa Valley (my choice) and The Broadmoor (Tyler’s choice). Looking back, we might have had to flip again if it landed on Napa Valley. We couldn’t imagine our weekend being anywhere else but in the Rockies.”
- REHEARSAL DINNER -
welcome Brittany really wanted this event to embrace the geographical location of where they decided to get married and to have it feel a bit more masculine than the wedding day to really separate the two events. So, in true Colorado fashion, the welcome party was held outdoors. The Broadmoor’s Mountain Clubhouse, with its massive lawn and epic views of both the Front Range Mountains and Colorado Springs, set the scene. For the floral, Grace & Gather Events worked with Design Works to incorporate warm peach and honey tones that kept the style whimsical and wild-flowery. The colors were intentionally chosen as a nod to Brittany and Tyler’s home state, Mississippi – Tupelo Honey, anyone? The decor remained slightly rustic but still elevated by accenting the tablescapes with antlers that brought in the Rocky Mountain feel.

B E L LY L A U G H S A N D S W E E T T E A R S Guests enjoyed lawn games, whiskey, champagne tastings and a set of Southwest-themed food stations for dinner. Opting for stations and providing a variety of seating welcomed guests to enjoy the evening as they wished. It was really important for Brittany and Tyler to create a casual evening where guests could munch on food, enjoy a cocktail, play some games and chat amongst one another. The most memorable part of the evening for both the couple and their guests was a surprise slideshow, made by Tyler’s sister, that included well-wishes and funny stories from friends and family that couldn’t attend the wedding weekend. Brittany and Tyler originally opted for a smaller wedding, but with restrictions, they decided to downscale their wedding even further to follow the local mandates. This surprise slideshow was a very special treat and there were so many belly laughs and sweet tears.

TOUCHES OF BLUSH Accessories that play into the style are a simple way to add color. Fun pink suede shoes and resin geometric earrings are a playful way to dress up your bride style. With such a soft color palette, let your groom steal the show with a stately dark suit that pops off of the blush tones making him look extra dapper.

PURE ELEMENTS To maintain consistency throughout your wedding day, use elements that compliment each other and limit colors or hues. The dried ceremony arrangement pairs nicely with the golden tones of the reception’s place setting silverware and wooden bud vases, while the pink satin napkins correlate back to the bouquet’s lush roses.

Erika + Colin CRESTED BUTTE
Erika and Colin met at a pizza shop through mutual friends in Washington D.C. They only lived a couple blocks away from each other and soon realized they were from the same hometown, went to the same high school and college and attended the same music festivals but had never met. Two-and-a-half years later they went on a snowboarding trip to Crested Butte. Erika remembers, “After a long day of snowboarding, we decided to go snowshoeing for sunset. We made our way to the top of Snodgrass Mountain and Colin dropped to his knee and asked the question. We celebrated with champagne in the snow.” The two planned a wildflower filled adventurous elopement for July 20th.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “It’s easy to follow a traditional wedding template but challenge yourself to be creative about the event to ensure it reflects your authenticity. Redefine your wedding experience, it is the first day of your new journey together. Create an environment where you can be completely present during your vows. It’s the best gift you will give each other.”

HOMEGROWN FLOWERS Erika and Colin grew their own flowers for the bouquet and boutonnière. It’s always been a dream of Erika's to grow her own flowers for her wedding. She picked out some of her favorite flower seeds just a few months before their wedding day. Erika and Colin tended to them weekly for a few months and just before the wedding day, they started to bloom. The bouquet was a dream!

Anastasia +Greg GRANBY
Anastasia and Greg met in high school when Anastasia played sports against Greg’s older sister. The two were in the same grade, had crossed paths multiple times during games, started talking and never stopped. For the proposal, Anastasia remembers, “Greg asked me to marry him on July 4th. We were with all of our close friends and after the fireworks ended, he got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. It was perfect!” They planned a boho ranch wedding for August 22nd.
P E R S O N A L I Z E D FAV O R S
“We have family in New Mexico that roast their own coffee, so I had them make a couple pounds for us. Afterwards, I put them in these adorable coffee bags that said ‘The perfect blend. Anna + Greg’ with the date of our wedding. For my bridesmaids, I had custom white buffalo necklaces made for each girl, as well as the mother of the groom and bride. Lastly, I had my dear friend, Madi at Joy and Jane Shop create each girl a custom collage. These included where they were born, how I knew them and special things about each of them. They were absolutely unique and a gift that will last a lifetime.”
ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “Just relax. Your wedding is a celebration of you and your loved one. Whatever happens, will happen, there is no need to control everyone and everything when you have all you need right in front of you. It is so special that so many people travel so far to celebrate you and yours, but at the end of the day, it is all about the love you have for each other, so embrace the wedding day, because it flies by.”

Kasey +
Craig
BOULDER Kasey and Craig met as coworkers working for a hotel downtown in Chicago and didn’t start dating until two years later. After two years of dating Kasey recalls, “We were living in Atlanta at the time and Craig asked my boss if I could have a day off without me knowing. I started to get suspicious then but was thrilled to not go to work. He then said he had a full day planned. We went to the farmers market and out to brunch and then back home to get ready for a dinner date. We ate dinner at a mexican restaurant and had a few pitchers of margaritas... our favorite. We often walked around the park so he asked if I wanted to do that. We got around the edge of the pond and he popped the question! He coordinated with my parents flying in from Missouri and his coming down from Georgia. Then we celebrated with a reservation at a rooftop bar with our families.” The two planned a simple, boho wedding for August 22nd.

FA L L I N G I N T O P L A C E
“We had originally planned a large wedding in Chicago, Illinois for October. As I began the planning process I immediately felt disconnected. I am a very low-key person and none of the large extravagances felt true to us. When I took a step back and realized the amount of money we were paying to enjoy a few hours of our time I decided to put the wedding on hold. After that, COVID came around and we started debating if we wanted to hold off or plan something different. I grew up traveling to Colorado, specifically in the summers and immediately was drawn to the vibe there. After some google searches, Craig sent over a link to the Flagstaff House and things started falling into place. My mom suggested we look for a mountain airbnb outside of Boulder to potentially throw the reception. Again, things fell right into place and we found the most amazing place complete with a pool (with a slide, one of the guest highlights, even my grandpa participated), hot tub and amazing views with tons of room to host events. After all the accommodations were in place we found the best photographers and we started planning with them.”

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “Do what is truly important to you. A main decision maker was I didn’t want to feel like I had to entertain my guests, I wanted to spend this time with them and enjoy myself as well. I think it’s easy to fall into ‘tradition’ even if you aren’t traditional and when you take a step back you say ‘this isn’t me, why am I doing all this?’ It’s hard let go of judgment or expectations but this is your day. Take a step back and say, ‘Is this something I want, or something everyone is expecting me to do?’ I cut out everything that wasn’t important to us as a couple, we didn’t think a first dance was meaningful so we didn’t have one. Make the day one you are truly going to enjoy, no regrets.”

Megan + John
TELLURIDE Megan and John started their journey in Denver during high school where they quickly became friends freshman year. Busy schedules with sports and relationships took them in different directions until the two reconnected the summer of their sophomore year in college. Even though she attended school in Boulder and he in Los Angeles, they made time for each other and as Megan says, “The rest in history!” Nine years later John proposed near Trout Lake in Telluride, where under the guise of family photos, they took an ATV ride to meet her family. Megan recalls, “When we arrived to the meadow, our Saint Bernard and family were hidden behind the trees. With the ring staged on a large rock, John parked the ATV and proposed right in the middle of the field.” They planned a western boho wedding for September 6th.

KEEPING LOVED ONES CLOSE “We included a moment in our ceremony for my father who passed two years prior. My parents were married on Labor Day, so it felt special to share the same weekend in a town that was special to all of us. Our officiant Gary, who was my father’s best friend and a mentor to us, read our vows aloud which took a lot of weight and public speaking off our minds. It was so nice to hear someone else speak our words, cementing their meaning.”

Nicaela + David
CARBONDALE Nicaela and David first ran into each other at a concert but barely talked the whole night. After realizing they went to the same church, friends helped them “accidentally” run into each other again and before long they were inseparable. A year later, Dave flew Nicaela from their hometown, Dallas, Texas, to Marble, Colorado where they spent any weekend away they could while dating. Nicaela recalls, “He took me to the lake where he first told me that he loved me just a few months before. I was completely shocked because we went on dates like this all the time and there was currently so much uncertainty in the world, I was also expecting at least another month before he proposed - just an instinct. Dave affirmed that he was certain about our love and he did not want to wait another day not being engaged. I of course said, ‘Yes!’ and we immediately flew back home where our close family was waiting for us to celebrate.” They planned a modern and minimal wedding with some boho twists for September 26th.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES “Don’t get too caught up in wedding planning. Investing in your future marriage is far more important than having the perfect wedding. Wedding planning can be so fun, but can also be a comparison trap and a distraction from why you are entering this union in the first place! David and I took some of the money towards our wedding budget and put it towards premarital counseling and it has been one of the best decisions we ever made! At the end of the day, the cake will get eaten and the flowers will wilt and you’ll never wear the dress again - but your relationship with your spouse will last forever and deserves to be invested in.”

Chandlerie
Chandlerie: the perfect outcome of a florist making candles for florists. The name was originally pulled from a Jeopardy! answer, “The room in medieval castles where the candles were kept.” Chandlerie launched in 2019 with a mission to create sustainable candles using up-cycled wax. An incredible eye for design clearly drives these small batch artisan candles as they come to life in the most exquisite colors. With extensive knowledge of the industry and love of the amazing creatives within it, endless opportunities arise through custom collaborations with clients by creating the perfect hues for specialized wedding day decor. This community driven effort relies on repurposed wax, of which the wedding industry delivers in spades, and thrives in knowing the use of impactful candle colors as a design element is one of the most dazzling details for your day. Chandlerie’s 2021 color line consists of soft subtle colors, rich majestic shades and beautiful bold tones. The following pages are filled with eye-catching table trends inspired by this splendid color line.

Bright + Modern CANDLE COLOR: PERSIMMON BRANCH
The true orange of Chandlerie’s new shade, Persimmon Branch, was used to create a bright, modern, out-of-the-box design with unexpected details and a unique color combination. The crisp white lacquer table and white wishbone chairs paired with bold flowers like anthurium, poppies and ranunculus tie the look together. Scarlet Gilia Creative, opting for a more unconventional charger, created a fun, modern placemat that was customized to each name along with menus that fit perfectly inside the salad plate. The table is tied together with Chandlerie’s blue-grey 2020 collection Love-In-The-Mist candles bringing it all together! Neutral Pop CANDLE COLOR: PAMPAS GRASS
This art-inspired design incorporates Chandlerie’s new shade, Pampas Grass. The concept started with a custom painted table by local artist, Rebecca Caridad, which replaced the traditional use of a linen. The focus was to show couples and clients how a smaller table can be fun, unique and beautiful. With microweddings changing the look and feel of events, the table is an exquisite display of inspiration for a four-top table that felt truly unique and special. Chandlerie’s 2021 green shade, Fern + Frond, is prevalent throughout this unique design. The arrangement, a new take on a traditional head table, is comprised of various heights and sizes of tables adorned with a variety of ferns as a nod to the candle name and peppered with delicate white blossoms for a “forest floor” feeling. Inspired by spring and renewal, Plum Sage Flowers created a stunning draping garland concept without any floral foam so the design remained environmentally responsible. Mixing the Tuscany and sage green grace linens from Nüage Designs added a soft embroidered element that created depth to the overall composition. Renaissance Garden Party CANDLE COLOR: CATTLEYA
The beautiful candle shade Cattleya transported us to visions of the purple blooms dripping out front of the Bridgerton mansion, everyone’s latest binge-worthy Netflix series. In lieu of a linen, touches of English Ivy climbed up the legs and around the edges of the gorgeous table provided by Eclectic Hive. Intermixed within the ivy and greens are a variety of beautiful blooms including clematis, lilac, roses, tulips, ranunculus and more, all reminiscent of a garden party. Romantic arrangements sprinkled with hand-painted feather butterflies complemented the candles in a soft pastel palette. The place settings featured touches of gold, blush goblets, and stacks of blush plates set atop a pearl charger along with the most beautiful watercolor floral Nüage napkin, tied with a chiffon bow. Sweet Zion Paperie designed the paper details with a modern meets English renaissance nod, translated through the acrylic and paper 3D floral menus and laser cut place cards in a matching hue.

Assigned with Chandlerie’s blue Privet Berry color, Table 6 Productions created a modern, fresh, vibrant and artsy setting. Playing off of Nüage Design’s Blush Mimo linen, the team mixed glass, acrylic, wood and stone elements to bring in different levels of texture while keeping the look and feel consistent and cohesive. Unexpected elements included a fun crescent-shaped table, an abstract four-tier cake created by A Cake Come True and yellow velvet chairs. The look was magnified with exquisite floral creations by The Olive & Poppy which included Picotee striped ranunculus, peach poppies, yellow Forsythia, and burgundy Phalaenopsis orchids.

Natural & Organic CANDLE COLOR: MULBERRY + WINE
The Mulberry + Wine candle from Chandlerie inspired this fresh, organic and texture-filled tablescape creation. The candles cohesively spread amidst a floral sea of mauve, buttercream and warm peach tones. Virginia of Bluebird Productions holds true to one of her design principals, “We always err on the side of timeless with our designs and aspirational concepts. Our inspiration was to create a tablescape complimentary to not only the candle but also the Chandlerie brand as a whole.”

Boldly Feminine CANDLE COLOR: GLORIOSA Inspired by Chandlerie’s Gloriosa color, the tablescape honors a strong, feminine color palette; celebrating pink in all its glory. Gloriosa is one of Chandlerie’s most bold colors offered in the new line, and Go Bella Design and Planning wanted the colors not to just accompany it, but to do it justice.
