EDITOR’S LETTER

Being born and raised in Colorado, I found my love for the Rockies in a state that holds so many beautiful places. Through the years, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many of the other states across the Rockies and have found a certain charm to all of them. Something about the fresh air blowing through the evergreens, or the sand blowing across the Southwest deserts, and the aqua blue lakes in the north, I couldn’t think of a better place to say “I do!” than the Rockies. As I begin to plan my own Rocky Mountain wedding using RMB, I find myself in awe of the talented local vendors in each pocket of the Rocky Mountain region. I hope that within these pages you will find all the inspiration and tips you need to make your day everything you want it to be. We’ve scouted the best of the best in your area to provide you trusted local vendors. Happy planning! xo

JACKSON 101 Advice for a perfect Jackson trip featuring the weather and favorite spots of the area. Planning ahead can make all of the difference for your guests and you.

jeremiah & rachel photography

S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R With its close proximity to snow dusted mountains and Grand Teton National Park, Jackson shines as an ideal wedding location. From June to August, the weather is warm and sunny, making it the most popular time of the year to tie the knot. If you are looking for that warm weather vibe and plenty of rays, July might be your best bet with average temps in the low 80s. On the other hand, if you are wanting a cozy and cool ambiance to your day, look to January or February when the city is often blanketed with snow. For a more moody day, check out March and May. While there is a chance of rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

W H AT T O P A C K Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of the guesswork out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months or sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony.

ACTIVITIES Head north on US-191 to Grand Teton National Park, home to hiking trails, scenic byways, crystal clear rivers and an abundance of wildlife. From May-October, take Teton Park Road to the Jenny Lake Loop Road, a 4-mile scenic pass, skirting along the east shore of Jenny Lake. The glacial lake is nestled at the foot of the Teton Mountain Range with stunning views of the peaks. Just outside of Jackson, find the National Elk Refuge, a six by ten mile refuge composed of rolling hills and expansive meadows. Explore the area by driving through Refuge Road or in the winter by sleigh. As the temps dip and the land becomes blanketed with snow, step back and take in the scene as you look across the landscape scattered with 5,000+ elks. Teton Village, 12 miles northwest of Jackon, lies at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. This Swiss-style village, better known as the “Vil,” offers everything you could possibly need. From espresso stands to après-ski bars and live music to country saloons, explore the town before hitting the slopes in the winter or riding the scenic tram for hiking trails in the summer.

Make it Official Jackson Hole is one of the most popular areas in the country to get hitched, but make sure you schedule some time to get your marriage license before your ceremony. In the state of Wyoming, you can get your marriage license at any county clerk’s office. Your partner and you must both be in attendance with proper identification. It will cost $30, and the state of Wyoming does not require you to be a resident or have a blood test. You will need two witnesses, and the license must be returned to the county clerk’s office within one year.

Jessica + Tony diamond cross ranch

Jessica and Tony had a very unique meeting. Tony reached out to Jessica, who was a local news anchor, on Facebook, and the two started chatting, but Jessica wasn’t in a place for a relationship at the time. Tony sent Jessica a picture of him flying a jet, which she posted to her TV Facebook page, and one of her colleagues saw it who happened to be in Tony’s same squadron. Fast forward to almost a year later when Jessica was reporting from Randolph Air Force Base. Her work colleague remembered the photo and introduced Jessica to Tony in person, and the pair have been inseparable ever since! Four years later, the couple took a trip to Lake Tahoe to visit Tony’s family. The pair set off to explore Hidden Valley, just south of the lake, and take in the changing leaves of fall. Tony pretended to lose his camera lens cover to distract Jessica. As she frantically searched for the “lost” cover, she noticed Tony with tears in his eyes, down on one knee, proposing! Jessica and Tony planned an enchanting vintage-inspired wedding for August 9th.

P E R S O N A L D E TA I L S

Lots of care went into making Jessica and Tony’s day not only memorable but also very personal. Jessica wore her grandmother’s wedding gown, which had been miraculously untouched since 1940. With the help of an expert restoration and seamstress, her grandmother’s gown was given new life! Another special detail was Tony’s ring, which was made out of scrap metal from a B-1 bomber plane to pay homage to his service in the Air Force.

Elizabeth + James bentwood inn

Elizabeth and James definitely had a “meet cute” type of encounter. Jumping into a friend’s car on the way to a music festival, neither Elizabeth nor James thought the person sitting beside them would one day be their future spouse! The two instantly hit it off and ended up talking the entire trip. Three years later, James wanted to propose but also wanted it to be a surprise. On his birthday, Elizabeth planned an entire day of fun activities and wasn’t even thinking about getting engaged. In the morning, James asked her to come look at the highdefinition photo quality on his new camera. When Elizabeth stared at the screen, there was a message in the photo reading, “Will you marry me?” Needless to say, Elizabeth was absolutely surprised! Elizabeth and James planned a boho, mountain chic wedding for August 24th.

Samantha + David snow king resort

Samantha and David both played college soccer and a mutual friend thought the two would be a good match! On their sixth dating anniversary, David surprised Samantha with a trip to their university to see the campus’s new front walkway that was composed of bricks donated by alumni. While Samantha was searching for the brick David supposedly bought, she didn’t notice David getting down on one knee until she looked up! Moments later, all their friends came out from their hiding spots to congratulate the couple! Samantha and David planned an intimate wedding for August 8th.

the grand tetons

“We knew we wanted to get married in a national park. Since David had always wanted to go out west, he chose the Grand Tetons because of its picturesque mountains. Oddly enough, I unknowingly chose the exact location in which my late grandfather told my dad, on their last trip out west together, that if he could do it all again, he would get married right there at Schwabacher’s Landing. It definitely added an emotional element to the rehearsal when my dad saw the site again after all of that time.”

introducing

Q & A with

XOWYO By: Erin Mitschele

What is your favorite part of the job? Creating beautiful things!

What is your favorite tool of the trade? InDesign! I love creating mood boards and color palettes. That is really where the ideas in my head start to take come to life. And my swatch books. I love picking up paper and designing from that.

Where do you come up with your ideas? Everywhere, often from the client’s love story and images that inspire them. I have a client who met her fiancé on a boardwalk in Jackson Hole, and we are going to incorporate the wood grain pattern from those actual boards into her invitation. This way her meet-cute isn’t so literal, but still part of their stationery story.

What is one thing you wish you could educate your clients on? Pricing. Many people think that paper is inexpensive and are shocked to know what the true cost of a beautiful invitation really is. I think it’s the most undervalued aspect of weddings, and it doesn’t help that online stationery companies and Etsy sellers have driven down the price and value of our work, creativity and expertise.

What is your favorite wedding season? I love winter weddings in Jackson Hole. They are so much less frequent, so when we do them it really challenges us creatively. I love thinking about how to make the weddings cozy and personal in a different season. We get to incorporate other materials like velvet and sheepskin, things that whisper hygge.

What is your biggest indulgence? The spa. I love massages and facials. I splurge every so often and treat muself to a really nice spa afternoon.

If you could have one, what would be your super power? Ah, the Superpower Dilemma. I would choose to fly. You can go anywhere, any time you want. You can use the power for a more fulfilling life, and to help others.

What is the last concert you’ve been to? Hahaha, I think it was taking my mother in law to see Hall and Oates and Tears for Fears. Does that date me? I love the 80s.
