Oh, Montana! What a year it’s been. With limited traveling + staying close to home, I’ve been lucky enough to rediscover all of the beautiful places throughout this state. Driving through the Bitterroot Valley on a spring day as the seasons were starting to make their change is one of my favorite memories. It’s almost as though I was seeing everything for the first time - perspective is everything and sometimes it takes life slowing down to realize how lucky we all are. To you all; wedding vendors, brides + grooms, our team here at RMB, I’m so proud of everything we have conquered over the past year and a half. A true sentiment to what this is all really about - love. The upcoming pages reflect the authenticity + beauty Montana has, inside and out. The real love stories featured in this magazine prove to us all that love is never canceled. From an intimate elopement in Glacier to a fun-filled fare in Big Sky - there is so much beauty throughout this state. Not only will you be meeting Montana brides, just like you, but you’ll also be introduced to the vendors who brought their dreams to life. So, take notes of the couples’ advice and be inspired by the creativity within the pages ahead. I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Halle + Blake / Glacier National Park

Halle and Blake met by happenstance. Halle had taken a shift on what was supposed to be her night off from bartending while Blake made his way into the same bar from a neighboring town. The two immediately connected and made plans to go on a date. For their one year anniversary, Halle and Blake planned a trip to Montana, they also arranged for a couple’s photography session in Glacier National Park. About halfway through the photoshoot, with warm green forests covering the valley all around them, Blake got down on one knee and asked Halle to marry him!

Addie + Ian / Florence

Addie and Ian met while both attending college at Oklahoma State University. The two caught gazes from across the bar and Addie bravely walked right over to Ian and introduced herself. After graduation, the couple relocated to Montana to start the next chapter of their lives together. During a family vacation to Hungry Jack Lake, Minnesota, Addie and Ian ventured off for a short hike to Honeymoon Bluff. Once they reached their destination, Addie checked her phone to see the photos she captured along the way of her and Ian. When she turned around, Ian was on one knee and asked her to marry him!

Sarah + Peter / Corvallis

Sarah and Peter met in Missoula while at college. For Sarah, she was totally smitten from their first encounter. Eight years into dating, Sarah and Peter were on a trip together in Thailand. As they were waiting to have dinner in Phra Nang Cave Beach, they decided to go for a walk along the water. On the sandy stretch with towering limestone formations above, Peter announced that he found a heart shaped seashell and quickly bent down. He then began to fidget with one of his wool socks, where a stunning oval shaped diamond ring was hidden. Without thinking a thing and utterly surprised, Sarah said, “Yes!”

Megan + Braydon BILLINGS

Megan and Braydon met at a fashion show for a local clothing boutique. Days before the event, Megan’s colleague and friend told her about one of the male models who was “just her type.” The girls laughed about the potential prospect and Megan was left intrigued to meet this new mystery man. After the show, Braydon asked to meet up for a drink and although the first date went well, Megan was moving away in a few short months. Six years later, Megan was in town visiting when her and her mother decided to stop at a bagel shop for a quick bite to eat before starting their day. Right there, standing in the front of the line was Braydon. A quick exchange of polite conversation and both were off in separate directions. A few weeks later, Megan received a message from Braydon about their previous encounters and the rest is history! Three years into dating, Braydon proposed in the valley at the base of the Beartooth Mountains. Surrounded by family while enjoying the dazzling display of fireworks on the Fourth of July, Braydon asked Megan to marry him. They escaped to a cabin in the mountains for the remainder of the weekend to celebrate with close friends. Megan and Braydon planned a moody and romantic wedding for June 5th.

CHEYENNE TRADITIONS

“My grandfather, Max Highwalker Senior, wrapped us in a ceremonial blanket, burned cedar over us, and gave us a Cheyenne blessing. I was also gifted an eagle feather, a great honor in my tribe, by my Uncle Beaver Tall. My mother, Roxanna One Bear Wilson, then beaded the quill of the eagle feather using traditional Cheyenne beadwork, which was included in my bouquet.”

Kelsey + Evan BIG SKY

Kelsey and Evan met more than ten years ago while at a house party at Indiana University Bloomington. Coincidentally, they were both from the same hometown and went to the same high school in the suburbs of Chicago. The pair immediately hit it off and felt a connection, but the timing wasn’t quite right. They kept in touch over the next five years watching each other’s lives from afar, while Kelsey wondered if Evan might be the one who got away. Fast forward five years, Evan was visiting home from Colombia, South America and asked to catch up over coffee and the rest is history! Four and a half years later, Evan proposed near Kelsey’s family’s cabin in Michigan. Tucked away in a valley, Evan chose a charming red covered bridge complemented with surrounding lush forests. Kelsey and Evan planned an elevated rustic wedding for September 5th.

“We decided to write personal vows to each other and that was without a doubt the best decision we could have made. It’s so special to share those words with each other. The most beautiful part of it all was how nervous I thought I would be reciting my vows in front of everyone and in the moment not another soul in the world existed besides the two of us. We also had the string quartet play ‘You Can Call Me Al’ for our walkout song and that was pretty fun.”

Danielle + Brendan g l a c i e r n at i o n a l pa r k

Danielle is a natural born traveler, compelled to book a flight and explore the world. A few days before a month-long trip to two different countries, she met Brendan. Danielle and Brendan went on their first official date during a short visit home from Costa Rica. Four years of dating and countless adventures later, while moving into their first apartment together, Brendan proposed to Danielle. With one moving box left to unpack, Brendan began handing each item inside to Danielle. What Danielle didn’t realize was that he had strategically placed sentimental souvenirs representing their relationship in it. At the very bottom, Brendan got down on one knee and presented Danielle with an engagement ring. Danielle and Brendan planned a rustic, boho chic wedding for September 18th.

ADVENTUROUS MOMENTS

“After our ceremony, we went off on a little adventure with our photographer in the mountains. At one point, I had taken off my shoes and put on a pair of hiking boots to walk up to one of the high points. When we got there, we stood on the edge of the rock and all you could see was the sun setting, the beautiful lake and trees surrounding us. I remember Brendan and I looked at each other smiling. We had the exact same thought: we finally did it.”

Libby + Caleb BIG SKY Libby and Caleb were both on the same academic path to become veterinarians when they met. One semester, they had the same class schedule and inevitably became study buddies. After graduating from undergraduate school, the pair was accepted into Colorado State University’s Veterinary Medicine Program and continued their friendship in Northern Colorado. The relationship grew stronger as they navigated the rigors and stress of school. Fast forward three years, Libby was completing clinical rotations, a part of vet school when vet students start the transition from student to doctor. It was only the attending clinician and Libby inside the truck when they received an emergency call that an injured miniature donkey needed medical attention at a ranch in the mountains. As a lifelong lover of miniature donkeys, Libby knew this was her time to shine. Once at the beautiful old ranch in the valley of the Rocky Mountains, an elderly rancher appeared with urgency in his voice pleading for the doctor’s help. They quickly threw the truck in 4-wheel drive and drove around a wide group of trees to the nearby pasture, to find an astonishing surprise. Standing in the pasture holding a lead rope to a perfectly healthy miniature donkey, was Caleb. The clinician glanced over at Libby with a smile and exclaimed, “that’s your donkey.” Caleb got down on one knee and proposed with a stunning emerald vintage ring. Libby recalls, “It could not have been a more perfect proposal, the mini donkey, the authenticity of me wearing khakis doing my best to look like a veterinarian, all while covered in dirt from the previous appointments. There was so much honesty and realism in those little details.” Libby and Caleb planned a Western rustic elopement for October 10th.

“Riding horses through Big Sky country in a wedding dress was pretty spectacular, I felt like a badass princess who could gallop off at any moment. Lucky for Caleb, I did not. We’re both veterinarians and grew up with horses, we knew we wanted to incorporate animals into the wedding somehow. It was magical to be able to ride horses to the top of a mountain in the most beautiful place and make our love official.”

INDUSTRIAL MINIMALISM

With so many decor options, it’s understandable why minimalism has become such a major wedding style trend, and let us tell you there is beauty in simplicity. A clean look merely allows details to become more intentional. Industrial minimalism manifests the natural beauty and allows the light of the venue to shine through while white florals with accents of lush cascading greenery brings underlying sophistication with a crisp and classic feel. This twist on rustic romance meets urban chic promises a neutral soft and airy look. A fun component to include for visual balance is this leather-backed mustard velvet lobby chair, it’s gold pin legs finish the chair off making it a total showstopper.
