Wedding Professionals giving back in their community In the spirit of charity, one group of wedding specialists are doing amazing work to give back to a deserving couple the gift of a lifetime – a $40,000 wedding. Almost all aspects of the couple’s wedding were donated by area wedding professionals who contributed their services as “The Gift Worth Giving.”

together – perhaps the ultimate expression of love between two individuals. So, in order for us to help perpetuate the love, we’ve decide to gift it in the form of an unforgettable wedding day to a deserving, loving Montana couple,” say The Gift Worth Giving Founders.

Three Bozeman business owners began the idea to gift a dream wedding to one deserving Montana couple. Larry Stanley, photographer and owner of Montana Wedding Photographer, Jena Silverness, event designer and owner of Silver Lined Weddings and Megan Jacks, owner of After 5 and Weddings bridal and formal wear shop, along with producer, Stana Milodragovich, teamed up to give a dream wedding each year.

For the past three years, this dream wedding has been held at Springhill Pavilion. Owners of the Pavilion, Sally and Chum Howe, reserved one prime wedding date for the deserving couple while Gift Sponsors filled in the rest. The event design, the bridal gown, attendants’ dresses, tuxedo rentals, photography, flowers, catering, DJ, wedding rings, make-up, beverages and more are provided for the couple by an amazing group of top-notch, local wedding businesses.

The founders and organizers of The Gift Worth Giving, along with countless local wedding businesses work tirelessly over the course of four months to prepare the wedding and the couple for their dream day. Bethany and Adam had the perfect day for their August 10th, 2013 rustic mountain wedding. Cocktail Hour: Commonly an hour following the wedding ceremony when guests enjoy cocktails and appetizers and the Bride, Groom and family take breathtaking photos. Cocktail Table: Tall table for guests to mingle around during cocktail hour. Damask: A kind of linen, silk, cotton or rayon fabric made with flat patterns interwoven into the fabric. Often used for formal napkins and tablecloths. Dance Floor: The designated area for reception celebrations, including dancing, cake-cutting, speeches and toasts. Commonly the area is adjacent to the bandstand, stage or DJ booth, and is centrally located. It is important to select a dance floor size appropriate for the number of wedding guests. Consult with a flooring professional to determine the size you'll need. Destination Wedding: What you call your Montana wedding if your not from Montana. Formal Exit: This occurs at the end of the night everyone goes outside to send the Bride and Groom off. A Sparkler exit is by far RMB’s favorite way to do this. Leigh O'Donnell, Owner

What trends do you see for Montana Weddings in 2014? I see lace continuing to be a strong trend for 2014 but with more dramatic backs. Also, shorter skirts and gowns with appliques will start to make an appearance. Color combinations such as black and white will be trending. The key theme for this year is less is more, sleek and modern. How was your business created? How did you get your start? In 2008 I was shopping with my sister for her gown at Kleinfelds in Manhattan. I had been researching the Bozeman area to figure out a niche I felt I could fill. After experiencing the big corporate side of bridal retail, I decided I would love to bring a more personalized boutique style to Bozeman where I would get to know each customer by name and they would have confidence in my store and walk away with a memorable experience. My vision was to bring unique bridal fashion 26

rockymountainbride.com

sensibilities to Montana brides-to -be. What is your greatest form of inspiration? Beautiful clothing that makes a woman feel gorgeous is my inspiration in life. Wedding gowns aren’t just dresses, they speak to who a woman is inside. Seeing a woman feel beautiful in the most important dress she’ll ever put on is such a great feeling. What is one goal you have for your business? We want everything about your experience at Plume to be a celebration of who you are. We want you to feel beautiful in your gown… we want your time with us to be an extension of the most magical day of your life. What makes Montana weddings unique? Montana weddings are truly spectacular due to the endless options for picturesque nuptials. Whether along a river, by the white rocky

mountain peaks, in a field or under the stars of the big sky, Montana is a magical place to say “I do”! About Leigh and Plume Bridal I grew up on Long Island, NY until I left to study retail/marketing at Syracuse University. My junior year I studied abroad in London where I had the privilege of working alongside merchandisers and buyers from Harrods and Selfridges. Upon graduation I accepted a job as a buyer for Bloomingdales in the womens sportswear department. In 2004, I moved to Australia where I lived for 5 years and raised my daughter Ella. I now live in Paradise Valley, Livingston and am grateful to be a part of the Downtown Bozeman small business community. Contact or Visit: 406-577-2070 | plumebridal.com 40 W. Main St. Bozeman, MT

What makes a mountain man? Is it their likeliness to have facial hair and a scruffy do, or the constant smell of campfire that lingers with them around town? Have you ever gone to a wedding and seen the “mountain man?” Here are RMB, we understand that you want your mountain man to look his absolute best during your special day. We are here to help and to show you that your mountain man can remain himself but impress the rest with his sharp style, good looks, and even better attitude with just a little help from our friends. Bozeman, Montana - a popular destination for a mountain man, located in the western Rocky Mountains is known for Yellowstone National Park, Hot Springs, mountains ranges, rivers, fishing, and skiing. Hours were spent in waders and water up to your waist with Tom Melvin, Bozeman local and flyfishing guide for worldreknowned, Yellow Dog Fly Fishing. Tom was ready for a day with the Rocky Mountain Bride make-over team. Warming up slowly, Cali Frankovic captured the perfect images of Tom in his element, at one with nature, fishing the Madison River, just outside of Bozeman. With his southern charm, the ladies are going to be taking a second look after this transition. Tom went from luscious locks to a shorter British-styled haircut thanks to the The Loft Spa in downtown Bozeman. It was time to trade in the waders for a black classic tuxedo from local shop, After 5 & Weddings. Dressed to impress, we headed to The Baxter Hotel and Baccus Pub located in Bozeman’s downtown historic district - open since 1929. Cali was able to capture the elegant, sophisticated side of Tom, however, he will always remain a true mountain man at heart. rockymountainbride.com

Boutonniere: The Manly Way

Why should a man wear a flower on his lapel, especially when he is likely to be the only fellow sporting one? I’ll give you three reasons: 1. It’s a great conversation starter – I guarantee someone will ask about it; the key is to be confident as to why you are wearing it. If a compliment is given, simply say thank you, and then move on with the conversation unless your conversation partner(s) wishes to dwell on it. Nothing sours a conversation more than a man who displays arrogance and who talks about himself too much – the flower in your lapel 32

rockymountainbride.com

should be like a spark….a conversation starter, not the subject of the conversation. 2. You have something to give – How many times have you spent a wonderful evening with a woman you just met, and at the end of the night the only thing you can give her is your business card? Try leaving her with something a bit more unique and memorable. Or perhaps you want to make your aunt’s 70th birthday even more special – there are few things nicer to receive than a sincere showing of love accompanied by a flower. 3. It shows you pay attention to details – When wearing a boutonniere, it’s about realizing and showing that the little things matter.

Lockie Photography, Floral: Labellum

How to Choose the Flower for Your Jacket’s Lapel First the flower should fit the occasion – simple white or red blooms for formal occasions, while for less formal occasions more colorful and exotic flowers are fine. Second, the boutonniere should be coordinated with the clothing you are wearing. If in doubt, a simple white bloom, like a white pocket square, is always a safe bet. And speaking of pocket squares, you are permitted to wear a boutonniere with a pocket square, although a boutonniere by itself can stand in for a pocket square. The rule here is balance; avoid too much of a good thing by muting down the color of your square or wearing a white pocket handkerchief. The final factor in selecting a boutonniere flower is how long you plan on wearing it – many flowers will wilt after a few hours in the heat and without water, so if you are looking for something that will last all day in the West Texas heat consider consulting a florist. The Carnation Boutonniere – Simple, affordable, easy to find; of all the flowers a man can choose for his boutonniere, the carnation is perhaps the most versatile and

easiest to pull off. White is always acceptable, although it is best suited to more formal occasions. Red is a close second, and can bring a dash of color to a black tie outfit or dress up a sport jacket and jeans. I personally prefer miniature carnations; however, a normal bloom that hasn’t fully opened works well. The only downside to a carnation is that it will begin to droop after a day of wearing, so wear it fresh or if for a long day consider having it professionally prepared by a florist. The Rose Boutonniere – About as easy to find as carnations, roses are more complicated to wear as they are substantially larger and must be free from imperfections. To the general public, they are considered the most formal flower, and they are perfect choices when celebrating love at either a wedding or anniversary. Rose boutonnieres look best when they are professionally prepared as then they can be permanently tilted and even hydrated with a tiny water stop. If you head down this route ensure your jacket lapel can support the weight. Other Flower Options – Gardenia, Lily of the Valley, Sweet William, Orchids, Hyacinths, Daisies, and Lilacs are all excellent choices. You may have to special order these, but

the reward is that you’ll have a unique and beautiful companion. Remember that flowers have meanings and that these meanings change across cultures. Carnations are one of the most common boutonniere flowers in the United States, are the national flower of Spain, and show respect in Korea. In France however, carnations are a common funeral flower and considered unlucky outside of this setting.

Remember Wear It with Confidence – Do not be afraid to be an individual. Wear a boutonniere because you want to. Pay Attention to Proportion – If you’re a small man, wear small flowers. If you’re a large man, consider something that is more befitting your size. Never Upstage the Ladies – A boutonniere is a single flower or a small collection of tiny blooms; never wear something unwieldy. RMB is simply smitten by these gorgeous photos! The rugged, raw landscape blended with the classic gold and rich floral is perfection. Orange Photographie, located right here in Montana, traveled to Oregon to capture this look – “We had the opportunity to photograph this organically styled wedding shoot

during a workshop hosted by photographer, Erich McVey. While it took place in Bend, OR, we feel it is a style that fits equally as well in the rugged and majestic Rocky Mountains. It is a graceful blend of effortless and elegant, from the ethereal gown to the uninhibited florals and organic calligraphy."

The natural elegance of the gold blends in perfectly with the rugged and raw landscape – A 2014 trend to look out for brides. Choosing Floral – choosing flowers rich in texture and color will give you the “WOW” factor! Weathered Woods – Market Tables are simply fabulous! The natural wood grain gives you the more rustic feel that works great when blending modern with the Montana landscape. Whimsical White Dress – Organic is the perfect word to describe this dress. It’s natural shape and airy feel fits in perfectly with the outdoor space. RMB Trends – Gold is back! Just like the candlesticks and vase is these photos, gold is the perfect way to add classic elegance to your big day. Gold accents work in any space too! Whether you are getting married in a ballroom or in a meadow – gold will create the perfect blend of “organic and ethereal”. Paper Perfection – Sometimes when it comes to invites, less is WAY more! By choosing a natural, textured paper, will give you that organic, yet classic feel.

"Laura & Billy were our beautiful couple that accompanied the details to create a styled wedding shoot for the attendees. Laura's ethereal gown form White Dresses has an effortless beauty and grace, paired with a simple Chloe flat and crown braids with interwoven silk ribbon. We imagined this couple embracing a blended design both understated and graceful. This was accomplished with exquisite unruly florals, organic calligraphy and paper, and a rich and graceful table nestled within the brush." - Stylist, Ginny Au

A Rocky Mountain

Honeymoon

by: Alexis Hyyppa

The Coeur d’Alene Resort opened in May of 1986 and recently went through a multimillion dollar renovation in March 2012 highlighting a new, fully renovated lobby, completely redesigned on-property Dockside restaurant and lounge with new atmosphere and menu. The resort is home to an awardwinning golf course with the world’s only floating green, a full-service spa, signature restaurants and year-round recreational activities. Coeur d’Alene Resort is located in 60

northern Idaho approximately 31 miles east of Spokane, Washington and 100 miles south of the Canadian border. So many popular honeymoon locations are classified by their prime attraction: water, mountains, adventure, food, or spa. But after months of planning the perfect rocky mountain wedding, a bride also wants the perfect rocky mountain honeymoon. Lots of Montana brides want the perfect rocky mountain honeymoon with water, mountains, adventure, food, AND a spa. Somewhere that was easy to get to without

Coeur D'Alene Resort: A Resort On A Lake spending hours in transit but far enough away to feel like a true respite. That place is the Coeur d’Alene Resort, which, quite literally, has it all. It is easily accessible by car, plane, or rail. Each transportation method offers a scenic route winding through forests and quaint mountain towns only to be greeted by a vast mountain lake at the end. Upon arrival, couples will notice the architecture of the resort mimicked the surrounding mountains with copper trimmings catching the sun for an amazingly romantic sheen. Within the first few steps inside couples become acquainted with the resort’s dominating characteristic: comfortable elegance. The entry is decorated in precious metal tones with floor to ceiling windows looking at the lake, while lush seating areas made it a very comfortable view to enjoy. The Coeur D’Alene Resort staff makes sure that honeymoon couples have a very special occasion made for two. Even the front desk is separated out so each arrival experience is private. Amenities in each room include a raised level for a better view and an easily controlled fireplace and curtains by remote control, not to mention the window seats giving amazing views of the lake. Cuisine at the Coeur D’Alene Resort is unparalleled. There are lots of options in every price range for every type of dining experience. Dockside is the main restaurant with a large menu and a great view of the lake. There is a small café for snacks and a great bar with intimate tables in every nook and cranny. Room service has a “Rose Petal Brunch” with delicious wild huckleberry pancakes. When it is delivered, the server scatters fresh rose petals on the table, too. However, the pinnacle of the Resort restaurants is Beverly’s. The menu

Pacific Northwest’s largest wine cellar. Every day there is a complimentary wine tasting with the sommelier that is friendly and fun. The menu options ranged from comfortable burgers with exceptional ingredients to prime rib and seafood. Couples enjoy the amazing services as servers greet them with friendly congratulations on their wedding and aim to make you feel relaxed despite the pristinely elegant atmosphere of the restaurant and food. Be sure to sample the orange rolls when offered. To finish with a grand flourish, your server might even present a couple with fresh cotton candy swirled on a delicate cake stand that encased delicious homemade rockymountainbride.com

ice cream. The chocolate plaque said, “Congratulations.” Once again, the Resort combined comfort and elegance with ease. The spa is another unexpected “built for two” experience. In addition to an extensive menu of services for women they have a great selection of options for the guys. Their treatments are focused on sports, deep tissue, and minerals. Couples can stay in each other’s company in a co-ed relaxation room with wall to wall cushions, an epic fireplace, and tasty snacks. Insiders tip: order the “Sole Soak” and reserve a spot earlier in the day so you may be lucky enough to watch the fog lift from the lake. There are several couples treatment rooms so even though different services are selected, you can still enjoy them together. Couples leave the Coeur D’Alene Resort well-rested and more in love than ever before. Because it is such an easy trip to make you can plan to return for your anniversaries to relive the magic for years to come. A perfect rocky mountain wedding concluded with the perfect rocky mountain honeymoon.

cities, Big Sky Resort is sought out by many brides and grooms for their “Best Place” to say “I Do.” Destination weddings today have become more of a wed-cation for the wedding party, family and friends. The scenic backdrop and outdoor activities may be tops on everyone’s mind, but quality accommodations, a professional staff, catering and food services are just as important in bringing a couple’s dream to life. Planning and finalizing the wedding day can be very stressful. Add in planning an outdoor destination wedding and it can be downright daunting. Big Sky Resort has a specific Wedding & Events Manager, Margo Humphries, to help each bride and groom through every step. “I want to give each of my brides the peace of mind that everything can be done in one place. It’s their vacation too and I want them enjoying Big Sky Resort with their guests” says Humphries. Summer is a popular time for weddings in the Big Sky, each as unique and special as the bride and groom hosting. With Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin merging as one resort under one name, Big Sky Resort, it’s now the largest ski resort in the United States. So, it isn’t unusual to host winter weddings. Cold temperatures and mountain snow aren’t usually in the picture when brides dream up their perfect wedding day. But for Tracy Corwin of Dallas, TX, Lone Peak in December was the ultimate backdrop for her white wedding to husband to be, Mike Martin. For her big day, Mother Nature offered up an unequaled mix of sunshine and snow to make the ideal backdrop for her dream outdoor nuptials.

APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR OUT:

• • • • • • • • •

Buy a binder, the best place to hold ideas, contracts and other info, and keep it nearby -- you never know when inspiration will strike! Make a guest list, and start collecting snail-mail and email addresses. Hammer out a budget -- figure out where you can cut back and where you want to splurge. Decide on a destination. Unsure? Talk to a travel agent or hit the internet. Research the marriage requirements in your chosen destination. Look into the potential wedding and reception sites, hotels and wedding planners in your locale. Book your engagement photo session. Start shopping for your gown, taking into consideration the ceremony site and the destination's climate. Choose your maid of honor, best man and other attendants. Design a wedding website. Add links to the tourism board, hotel and venues so your guests can have important info and get excited about where they're going.

SIX TO NINE MONTHS OUT:

• • •

• • • • •

Set the date, reserve your site and pick your planner. Send out your save-the-dates with your website address. Select vendors, including caterer, photographer, florist, and band or DJ. Get recommendations from your hotel or planner, and check references from past clients. Choose an officiant, and start planning the service. Research activities and tours available in your locale, and plan at least one group option per day. Order your gown, and select attendants' dresses. Investigate any ethnic customs or cultural traditions you might want to incorporate into your event. Register for gifts or create a honeymoon registry.

FOUR TO SIX MONTHS OUT:

• • • •

• • •

Order your wedding rings. Obtain your passports and visas, and if necessary, get any needed blood tests or vaccinations. Arrange any rental needs like chair covers and sound equipment. Order your wedding invitations and thank-you cards, plus any special stationery (welcome letters, menus, maps, itineraries, signs). Buy or reserve wedding duds for the groom and wedding party. Buy gifts for your attendants and family members, and start composing your thank-you notes to them. Book accommodations and airfare for your wedding and honeymoon.

• •

Bride

Magazine,

Make hair, makeup and spa appointments for you and your 'maids. Shop for wedding accessories (shoes, jewelry, headpiece, lingerie), resort wear, decor and other goods (cake topper, guest book, ring pillow).

TWO TO FOUR MONTHS OUT:

• •

Arrange and confirm all of your group activities, including transportation for off site excursions. Finalize details with your vendors, including menus, photo poses and locations, floral specifics and special songs -- and get everything in writing.

Make or order the guest favors and welcome-bag items.

ONE TO TWO MONTHS OUT:

• • • •

Send out your formal invites six to eight weeks before the big day; include a program of scheduled events, plus dress code, if applicable. Arrange for when and how welcome-bag items and decor should be delivered to your hotel. Have your final gown fitting, complete with lingerie and accessories. Assign wedding-weekend tasks to trusted friends and family members. Write your vows.

TWO WEEKS OUT:

• •

Review all the details you agreed on with your planner, caterer, photographer, videographer, florist, musicians and any other vendors involved in the wedding events. Confirm your travel bookings. Put together a seating chart, if needed, and make place cards.

ON ARRIVAL:

• • • •

Confirm details with your planner and officiant. Apply for a marriage license. Inspect ceremony and reception sites. Assemble or approve welcome bags, and have them delivered to guests' rooms before they arrive.

THE WEDDING DAY:

Forget about all the planning and focus on having a blast!
