EDITOR’S LETTER
Being born and raised in Colorado, I found my love for the Rockies in a state that holds so many beautiful places. Through the years, I’ve been lucky enough to travel to many of the other cities across the Rockies including Park City, which was the first vacation my fiancé and I took together. I have a special place in my heart for the small town, the quaint main street filled with adorable shops and restaurants, to the Olympic Park where we bob sledded down the mountain. Park City is the perfect fit for any couple, from ranches to lux hotels. I can’t think of a better place to say I do! As I begin to plan my own Rocky Mountain wedding using RMB, I hope that within these pages you will find all the inspiration and tips you need to make your day everything you want it to be. We’ve scouted the best of the best in your area to provide you trusted local vendors. Happy Planning! xo

S E A S O N A L W E AT H E R Just 30 miles from Salt Lake City and brimming with winter and summer activities, Park City shines as an ideal mountain wedding location all year round. From July to August, the weather is warm and sunny, making it the most popular time of the year to tie the knot. If you are looking for that warm weather vibe and plenty of rays, July might be your best bet with average temps in the high 70s. For a backdrop of fall leaves and cool nights, September and October are beautiful months to say “I do.” If you are wanting a cozy ambiance to your day, look to January when the city is often blanketed with snow. For a more moody day, check out March. While there is a high chance of afternoon rain, storm clouds instantly add a dramatic feel, and they say rain on your wedding day is good luck, right?

W H AT T O P A C K Guiding guests on what to pack for your wedding can take a lot of stress out of their decision. Feel free to add your wedding attire, whether it be cocktail casual or black-tie optional, to your wedding website. Here is also a great place to add little tidbits too, such as packing a shawl for the cooler months, sunglasses if you are having an outdoor summer ceremony, and reminding guests to drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness.
ACTIVITIES From Alta with Snowbird and Brighton to the heart of Park City with Park City Mountain Resort and Deer Valley Resort, Park City and the surrounding area is home to six ski resorts! For beginners to experts, Snowbird is the perfect resort for all levels of skiing. After a day on the slopes, enjoy apres ski snacks and sips at The Tram Club, a casual local hangout. During the last two weeks of January, Park City becomes a Hollywood hotspot when the Sundance Film Festival comes to town. Spread between Salt Lake City, Sundance Resort, but mainly Park City, catch some of the best independent films during the festival with many going on to win Oscars, including The Unusual Suspects and Get Out. The festival has also launched surprise hits like 500 Days of Summer, Little Miss Sunshine and Napoleon Dynamite. Just north of downtown Park City, explore the Utah Olympic Park, which was built for the 2002 Winter Olympics. The massive venue houses one of only four sliding tracks in the world for the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton events along with six Nordic ski jumps. Watch as Olympic hopefuls train for various sports and learn about the history of the 2002 Winter Games in the on-site museum.

Make it Official In the state of Utah, you can get your marriage license at any county clerk’s office. Your partner and you must both be in attendance with proper identification. You will be asked multiple questions while you are there such as when and where are you getting married or if you’ve had any previous marriages. It will cost $30, and the license is valid for 30 days. The state of Utah does not require you to be a resident or have a blood test, but two adult witnesses must be present at your ceremony.

Kayla + Darin a lta l o d g e
Kayla and Darin met in a very 21st Century way - online! After six years of dating, Darin knew that Kayla was his forever. Darin planned a romantic date night at Log Haven restaurant up in the mountains. After dinner, Darin presented Kayla with a gift. Kayla opened the gift to reveal a wooden sculpture with the words “You’ve always been the one” written on it. Kayla looked up to see Darin proposing, and she happily said, “Yes!” Kayla and Darin planned a Moroccan boho wedding for July 12th.

rose ceremony
“I loved having our closest family and friends while Darin and I read our vows. It was the perfect breezy, warm, and sunny day with the picture perfect mountain landscape behind us. Also we had a family “rose ceremony,” which involved 3 vases, one with white roses, another with red roses, and the third with both. It was to symbolize the combining of our families. It was important to my grandma, and I’m so glad we included it.”

Laura + Kevin 4u
ranch
Laura and Kevin met while working at Park City Mountain Resort. Kevin was in his second year of ski patrol when Laura was hired as a lifty. Over the next five years, the pair moved around from Park City to Seattle to London, UK, to Philadelphia. Skiing continued to be a huge part of the couple’s lives and relationship, and Kevin knew he wanted to incorporate it into the proposal. During a trip to the French Alps to Vallée Blanche, the pair planned to ski off of Aiguille du Midi. Surrounded by the surreal beauty of the mountains, Kevin asked Laura the most important question of his life, and while completely surprised, Laura said, “Yes!” Laura and Kevin planned a relaxed ranch wedding for September 7th.

During college, Mariah frequented the coffee shop that Christoper worked at. Months later, Christopher worked up the courage to ask Mariah out. She said yes, but then backed out later; however, fate had other plans and their paths crossed a year later and a friendship turned into a relationship. After four years of dating, the two set off for a backroads cycling trip from Prague, Czech Republic to Vienna, Austria. Before the start of their adventure, Christopher proposed in their Prague hotel to kick off the trip as an engaged couple! Mariah and Christopher planned an elegant mountain wedding for August 11th.

Marissa + Josh st. regis rehearsal dinner
real beginnings
Marissa and Josh met in high school and started dating their junior year. They dated long distance throughout college before being reunited in New York City to start their life together. After ten years together, Josh planned a chilly surprise proposal on his sister’s apartment’s rooftop. When the couple arrived on the roof, Marissa was met with a blistering -4 degree windchill, but also the surprise of her life. The roof was covered with roses and twinkling lights, and there Josh asked her to be his wife! Marissa and Josh kicked off their wedding weekend with a laid-back country-inspired rehearsal dinner planned by Michelle Leo Events at the St. Regis Deer Valley.

Located in the countryside and just 20 minutes from Park City, 4U Ranch sits on 75 acres with the beautiful Weber River running through it. The custom timber-frame barn venue was carefully designed by the owner, a former event planner. Boasting 360-degree views with a soaring ceiling of white timber and skylights, the natural light inside the barn is only matched by the views outdoors. The ceremony site along the banks of the river offers a mountain backdrop for your vows like no other. After your I dos, enjoy cocktail hour on the barn’s expansive lawn before coming inside for your reception. The clean white walls of the barn creates a blank palette to design your perfect wedding! The owner’s dream of having a “river runs through it” property to share with those who share their love of the outdoors is indeed a dream come true and truly emcompasses their intention for the ranch as a welcoming space to create a lifetime of memories “for you!”

Q & A with
Michelle Leo Events By: Erin Mitschele What is your favorite part of the job? I love the aspect of getting to know my clients and creating a custom design for their events. It’s such a fun, creative process and the reward is seeing everything come together on event day.
Do you have a favorite tool of the trade? I am a Honeybook user which is software designed for event professionals.
Where do you come up with your ideas? I pull from all sorts of places! I love the stories my couples are able to share with me about who they are as individuals and a couple. From these stories, I search for personal details that will make a difference. I also find inspiration through traveling to different locations, thumbing through home improvement magazines, art, music and literature.
What is one thing you wish you could educate your clients on? Weddings don’t have to be the epitome of perfection. They aren’t fairytales, they’re real live events produced by human beings and sometimes, things don’t go according to plan (hello rain when you expect sunshine). It’s how you react and roll with things that make or break a great event. Besides, isn’t that what life is all about with your partner? Rolling through the punches and doing so as a team?

Favorite Wedding Moment? A few years ago when we had to call an outdoor wedding due to rain. The bride was devastated that her wedding was going to take place indoors at the venue instead of outside. However, during the ceremony, the skies cleared so we pulled the groom aside to get his approval on an extended cocktail hour so the team and I could break down the set up and move everything outdoors. He approved and we hustled! 1.5 hours later, we introduced the bride to her outdoor dream reception, and happy tears started flowing from everyone’s eyes. It’s a moment I’ll never forget!
What is your idea of perfect happiness? That feeling of accomplishment through honest, hard work. And knowing that I’m right where I’m supposed to be.
What is your favorite journey? The work I put into becoming a certified, advanced open water scuba diver. The reward is beyond amazing!
What is your biggest indulgence? Vacations on the beach (I may live in the mountains but my heart is home on the water).
If you could have one, what would be your super power? To eat anything I want without gaining weight.
