Jane & Keenan
While Jane and Keenan ran in the same social circle, the two never met until Jane spotted Keenan with her group of friends at a local restaurant where she worked. Shortly after, Jane’s roommate formally introduced the duo and the spark was undeniable. Eight years later, on a rainy Saturday morning in September, Keenan proposed to Jane in the comfort of their home as the couple played cards together. “He hid the ring inside our card box,” Jane shares. The following May, Jane and Keenan tied the knot with an intimate elopement, just the two of them on Balangan Cliff in Bali, Indonesia overlooking the ocean. One month after their island nuptials, the newlyweds celebrated with 225 loved ones at the Alberta Aviation Museum. The vision? A lush tropical flora with a spirited bohemian nights vibe. “Our June event was a party to celebrate with all of our friends and family. Having everyone we care about in one room was an overwhelming feeling of joy and happiness,” explains the bride.
In addition to hosting a lively reception at a historic airplane hangar in Edmonton, the couple posed for portraits in an unlikely locale: Sepp’s Pizza. After Keenan had seen a photo of a groom and groomsmen walking down the street holding a six-pack of beer and smiles on their faces, he couldn’t help but hope to recreate the iconic moment with his bride and their siblings. We mentioned it to Christina, our photographer, she loved the idea and even suggested adding in some pizza. We thought it was a great idea plus that way we could have a quick bite to eat before heading to the party. The photos turned out to be some of our favourites and it is such a happy memory with our siblings,” shares the couple.

DANIELLE + SKYLAR
Danielle and Skylar met on a dating app or as some might call it, the new school way. After two dates under their belt, Skylar knew something felt truly different, turns out his intuition was right. Over the next two years, the couple fell deeper in love with each other. While visiting Danielle’s family in Toronto, Ontario, Skylar decided to make it official and propose. “After breakfast we were exploring the Toronto waterfront when Sky tricked me into taking a waterside photo that turned out to be a video as he popped the question!” Danielle reminisces. The newly engaged couple documented their engagement with a photoshoot six storeys off the ground in Calgary’s Beltline, aptly called High Park.

SAMANTHA + ELBERT
Couples who laugh together, stay together, research confirms. Fortunately for Samantha and Elbert, their initial encounter eight years ago commenced over a joke at work. “Thankfully Elbert had a sense of humor, and acquaintances turned into friendship which then blossomed into love, and the rest is history!” Samantha shares. By the couple's seventh anniversary, Elbert proposed in the comfort of home surrounded by candles, rose petals, and golden balloons that said, “Marry Me.” “He initially wanted to propose on a jet ski in the middle of the ocean, but considering how clumsy I am, he opted to do it at home,” Samantha jokes. Following the intimate proposal, the newly engaged couple celebrated on the water riding jet skis.

When Emily, a registered nurse, met David, a paramedic and firefighter in the emergency room at a hospital in Lethbridge while working, the two shared an instant connection. Fast forward nearly two years later, the couple planned a spontaneous trip to the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for a weekend escape. “A few of my friends bugged me asking if I thought David would propose to which I replied, ‘No way, it’s too last minute and doesn’t give him a chance to get organized,’” Emily says. What Emily didn’t realize was that David had been designing an engagement ring for months prior and had been hiding it in his sock drawer at home. After a blissful getaway in the Canadian Rocky Mountains and one last breakfast before heading home, David suggested taking a walk to the opposite end of the lake. “Once we got there, he said he was going to take a photo of me overlooking the water and when I turned around, he was suddenly on one knee,” Emily shares. While Emily admits she doesn’t recall what happened next from being in total shock, fortunately David captured the proposal on video to reminisce.

TAYLA + CHRISTIAN ELBOW FALLS
Although Tayla and Christian attended the same high school, the college sweetheart’s love story unfolded during Tayla’s final year of university. “I knew from our very first date when he took me to my favourite restaurant, opened the car door, but still beat me at bowling, that he was the one,” the bride-to-be confesses. Five years later, Christian began planning a proposal at a small set of waterfalls along the Elbow River in Kananaskis. “Christian asked me to go on a walk one beautiful winter morning with him at Elbow Falls. On the drive there I realized that we hadn’t been back since our second date,” Tayla shares. As the pair strolled beside the river, Christian bent down on one knee and asked Tayla to marry him. For their engagement photos the couple chose the falls, a sentimental location to capture a sense of nostalgia and sweetness.

Thanks to their respective families, Preet and Manny’s love story began in April 2011. While their introduction was planned by both sets of parents, the initial attraction translated to the feeling of falling in love instantly without officially knowing the other. “It was love at first sight for us,” Preet reminisces. After a year of dating long distance, the couple wed on October 5, 2012. Preet and Manny celebrated a decade of marriage with an epic anniversary photo shoot revealing their elevated sense of style. The two posed in front of a vintage Chevrolet Impala, of course, with the convertible top down.
ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES

Dimple & Rishi
Dimple and Rishi’s relationship started shortly after meeting on a dating app. “We both were seeking true love and wanted to settle down in our lives,” says Dimple. Once Rishi asked Dimple’s father for her hand in marriage, he got down on one knee and proposed over dinner with their families. On April 28th, Dimple and Rishi tied the knot tucked away in the Fraser Valley among the snow capped peaks of Mount Cheam with bison roaming in the surrounding fields. Planned by the bride and groom themselves, the couple envisioned an intimate spring wedding infused with pale pastel hues and ethereal rustic elements found in the Rocky Mountains.
To honour their Indian culture, Dimple and Rishi followed a traditional Hindu ceremony performed by a priest on the Mandap which translates to “a covered structure with pillars.” As the centrepiece where the rituals will take place, the Mandap is adorned with florals and set upon a raised platform allowing guests to witness the vows from their seats. The couple included several different unity rituals, such as the Jaimala, where the bride and groom exchange garlands woven with flowers. “While the very essence of a Hindu wedding ceremony is the physical, spiritual, and emotional union of two people; it's also about the coming together of two families through prayer and celebration,” the bride shares.
ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES
“Enjoy planning the wedding together, even the small details. You'll cherish these memories your whole lifetime.”

Joyce & Sam
Sometimes love is closer than you imagine. For Joyce and Sam it happened to be in the city where they grew up. While the two crossed paths a number of times before becoming friends, it was one of the largest American music festivals of the year that brought them together, Coachella. Sam had attended the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California with the same group of friends for years when Joyce was finally able to join them in 2014. After that weekend, the pair maintained a friendship over their shared love for music, which naturally evolved into becoming a couple. Nearly three years later, Sam organized a deeply romantic and thoughtful treasure hunt where each clue led Joyce to a place that was significant to their relationship. The final clue guided Joyce back to the couple’s candle-lit apartment where Sam was waiting. Wondering why Sam wasn’t at work, Joyce soon realized what was happening and was overcome with emotion as Sam got down on one knee to propose. Spoiler alert, she said, “Yes!” After a few postponements, Joyce and Sam planned a wedding infused with Chinese and Iranian traditions.
TEA CEREMONY - GING CHAA
As Joyce is Chinese and Sam is Iranian, it only made sense for the couple to include wedding traditions from their respective cultures into the celebration. The bride and groom kicked off the wedding festivities with a Chinese tea ceremony before recessing into a condensed version of the Persian Sofreh Aghd. The tea ceremony, known as Ging Chaa in Chinese meaning, ‘to respectfully offer tea,’ is a tradition where the bride and groom serve tea to their families symbolizing gratitude towards their parents, new in-laws, and elders. In turn, the families will give their blessings to the newlyweds by gifting them lai see, red envelopes containing money.
PERSIAN CEREMONY - SOFREH AGHD
An essential part of a Persian wedding ceremony is the Sofreh Aghd, in which the bride and groom sit in front of an elaborately decorated spread featuring an assortment of symbolic items, each representing an element of marriage and the newlywed’s life together. During the sugar blessing, guests of honour take turns holding up a delicate cloth while rubbing sugar canes to symbolize sweetness for the couple’s life and marriage. The couple then dip their pinky fingers in honey and exchange it for an extra dose of sweetness. Following Joyce and Sam’s ceremony, guests gathered beneath the jaw-dropping stained glass atrium of The Permanent where the reception took place. As an award-winning cake artist, it was only fitting that Joyce took on the baking and designing of her own wedding cake. The cake boasted floating tiers, delicate hand-piped buttercream floral embroidery representing the couple’s respective cultures, and vibrant fresh florals.
ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES
“Communication is key. We needed to make sure we were clear with one another and what each other’s expectations were. As well, no matter how much you plan, something will always deviate from what you envisioned on your wedding day. Unless it’s something extremely dramatic, there’s very little that can actually ruin your wedding unless you allow it to. Lastly, hire a planner! Our planner, Hasti, gave us so much great advice and she worked hard for us to have the best day ever. We are eternally grateful to her commitment, care, and dedication.”

Biljana & Marko
Biljana met her now-husband, Marko, when they were 14 years old performing Serbian folk dancing. Talk about a throwback. A decade and a half later, Marko proposed one evening as the couple were showering sunscreen off, following an afternoon of basking in the sun in their backyard. “We were talking about our relationship and how much we’ve grown together throughout the years and how we wouldn’t be the people we are today without one another. Marko started to get emotional. He quickly hopped out of the shower, grabbed a little box out of his closet and got down on one knee. I couldn’t have said, ‘YES!’ faster. Both naked and overwhelmed with emotion, we laughed and cried and popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate,” Biljana shares. For their nuptials, Biljana and Marko envisioned a Vancouver wedding with modern, city vibes. L’abattoir, located in the heart of Gastown between historic Gaoler’s Mews and Blood Alley, immediately fit the bill. With the venue booked, the bride and groom set forth to wed with an intimate guestlist.
As a bridal stylist at Rituals of Love, it was no surprise that Biljana had impeccable taste when it came to choosing a wedding gown. The bride wore a breathtaking mermaid silhouette in structured silk mikado with a petal-inspired bodice and full skirt from Pronovias. Based on a photo of a new sample the boutique was expecting, Biljana said yes to her dress without ever trying it on. She accessorized with a Theresa Chen cathedral length veil and custom hand embroidered gloves by Kerry Parker that read: to have & to hold - to love & to cherish. The raw emotion continued as Biljana walked arm in arm with her father down the aisle toward her groom. “The second we turned the corner, I squeezed my dad’s arm and looked up to see Marko’s eyes welling up. It’s one of those moments in life that you wish you could pause and hold onto for a little bit longer,” the bride reminisces. Once Biljana and Marko were pronounced husband and wife, guests made their way to the cocktail hour before finding their seats among a candle lit tables immersed with black and white accents. Upon entering the reception, Rakija, a traditional liquor was served from a beautifully carved wooden flask called a cutura, as a nod to their Serbian heritage. The newlyweds took advantage of the city’s downtown scene to pose for portraits while Biljana transformed her style entirely in an ivory satin corset midi and shimmering Jimmy Choo pumps.
ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES
“Don’t forget that whatever it is you're planning, should be a clear depiction of your love and who you two are as a couple. Don’t let other people's opinions sway you in any direction. Use the wedding traditions that work for you and forget about the ones that don’t. Allow yourself to be creative and try and have fun with it, no matter how stressful it can be. Keep your partner involved and communicate with one another so you’re always on the same page. Lastly, try and have everything done at least one month before the wedding so that you’re able to sit back and just look forward to the big day!”

Alexandra & Spencer
If you ask Alexandra and Spencer how they met, the exact moment is up for debate. Although, what the couple does agree on is that they once baked a boxed cake together and the rest is history. After nine years of dating, Spencer got down on one knee. On an ordinary Sunday, Spencer suggested taking photos together since Alexandra had mentioned it months before. Lake Louise was an obvious choice as the two regularly enjoyed the crown jewel of Banff National Park. Surrounded by the breathtaking mountain scenery and an approximate temperature of -27 °C, Spencer found a quiet spot in front of the turquoise lake. He assembled the camera on the tripod, clicked record without Alexandra knowing and walked back towards her so he could take a photo, or so she thought. Alexandra needed to adjust her headband for what felt like five minutes to Spencer, however, it turned out to be 45 seconds according to the video. Now ready, Alexandra turned around and Spencer at last began his speech and asked her to marry him. Alexandra and Spencer planned a classic wedding at the groom’s family home.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Not only did the bride and groom exchange vows on their ten year anniversary with those nearest and dearest to them, but little did they know when they began dating, the two shared an anniversary with Spencer’s parents. On June 7, 1980 Spencer’s mother and father were married in the same city. During the reception, the newlyweds snuck away with their photographer to a nearby park where the groom’s parents posed in front of a camera forty-two years earlier on their wedding day.
ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES
“There are two things that are the most important to have a successful relationship: communication and compromise. Have courage to communicate and say what’s on your mind. Listen to your person because what they are saying takes courage. Compromise because it’s not only about you. It’s also now about the person you love. Balance your life between each other so you are on equal ground.”

Elly & Mark
When Elly and Mark met nearly twelve years ago, it was all due to their best friends who were dating each other at the time and thought the pair would be a perfect match. A match indeed, a budding romance began between them. During a weekend retreat to Panormana, an alpine village tucked deep into British Columbia’s oldest mountains, Mark popped the question while the couple sipped wine on a deck overlooking the stunning Canadian scenery. A year after the proposal, Elly and Mark hired Julianne Young Weddings to execute their vision of a sophisticated black-tie wedding at Pinebrook Golf & Country Club.
Elly and Mark said “I do” in front of 120 guests with a warm and welcoming al fresco ceremony inspired by the natural elements of the property’s picturesque backdrop and breathtaking vistas. The wedding party processed down the aisle while a live cellist performed Bach’ s “Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major” followed by the bride’s entrance to the classic “Canon in D” by Pachelbel. “My favourite moment was walking down the aisle and seeing Mark’ s expression. It’s true when they say that time stands still in that moment,” Elly shares. The couple married beneath a Chuppah covered in verdant greenery and white roses where they exchanged vows and family members recited purposeful readings. After the bride and groom were pronounced husband and wife, the newlyweds participated in breaking of the glass once the ceremony was over. “I am Jewish and Mark is Catholic so we included some traditions from both religions,” Elly explains. An indoor reception followed where wooden accents and floor-to-ceiling windows spanned the interior of the room. The evening consisted of dancing the night away with those who travelled near and far to celebrate before a final snack was served from McDonalds. “It was a huge hit!” the bride exclaims.

Mariah & Jonathan
While Mariah and Jonathan have come a long way since they first met at 15 years old, their love story has a humble beginning. Like many young teenagers, the two were bashful when around each other, but fortunately in the years before Snapchat and Instagram there was MSN Messenger. Aside from an embarrassing username that haunts ‘90s and ‘00s kids, it was where you interacted with your crush. When the time came for a real in-person date, Mariah was deeply anxious, so much so that she brought conversation starter cards. As fate would have it, Mariah and Jonathan found the perfect opportunity to go out again once they were older. “We didn’t need the cards anymore and have kept the conversation going ever since,” says Mariah. Fast forward seven years, Jonathan recreated one of the couple’s first dates from when they were 16. A nostalgic walk around Burnaby featuring candy cola bottles proved to be just the place for a proposal. Mariah and Jonathan hosted a romantic Italian wedding in their hometown.
The couple’s ceremony took place at Our Lady of Mercy Parish where the bride’s parents were married. The traditions didn’t stop there; Mariah donned an opulent wedding day look which included operalength gloves made from her mother’s wedding gown that she hopes to pass down to her children as well. After exchanging vows in a traditional Catholic Mass, the bride and groom welcomed guests to the backyard of their home where the property was transformed into a whimsical and intimate setting ideal for an al fresco reception. “Whenever we got nervous it was so nice to see our cat Piccolina in the window!” the couple shares.

OAK BAY // JULY 31
When Miranda and Max first started dating nearly nine years ago, they went on a weekend escape to Max’s godmother’s cabin on Galiano Island. Since Miranda had never been, the two spent their days visiting the bluffs and soaking up British Columbia’s coastline. As their relationship progressed, Miranda and Max confessed that they began falling in love with each other on that very trip. Fast forward seven years on British Columbia Day, the couple found themselves visiting Galiano for the long weekend. Before hopping on the ferry to go home, Max proposed to Miranda at Bluffs Park Lookout. “I had been a little suspicious because he was very insistent we bring binoculars, and I felt there might be something hiding in the case!” Miranda recalls. While waiting at the ferry terminal as fiancées, the newly engaged pair witnessed a pod of Orcas travelling through the ocean followed by a sighting of humpback whales as they neared their destination in Victoria. “We still joke that the whales were paid actors!” laughs the couple. Exactly 364 days later, Miranda and Max had a happily ever after wedding.
With full creative direction along with one request from her soon-to-be spouse, a beach ceremony, Miranda infused her vision of a European garden party situated on the Pacific coast surrounded by tranquil waters. On the wedding day, Miranda walked down the aisle with both of her parents to the tune of a live harpist toward her groom. The couple then said their vows beneath an ethereal baby’s breath arch by Wild Floret as boats sailed in the distance.
Right after the ceremony, the newlyweds welcomed 115 loved ones through the wrought iron gate of St. Ann’s Academy National Historic Site for an outdoor reception tucked away on acres of open space. Between rows of fruit trees and formal gardens, guests sat at a luxuriously long table covered in crisp white linens and a gauzy runner. The bride and groom each had a signature cocktail, hers, an orange ginger mojito and his, a dirty bourbon sour. A celebration isn’t complete without a champagne toast done right. “Our lovely bar vendor set up a champagne tower and it was the best interactive and immersive experience. We took turns pouring and chatting with those around us and I swear it is the closest I will ever feel to being a celebrity!” Miranda says.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES
“Weddings definitely aren’t cheap! It was an eye opening experience realizing just how much things can cost. Our advice is to prioritize and budget for whatever you consider to be non-negotiable, while saving money on other expenses that may not be as important to you. Remember that at the end of the day, you get to marry your partner and live happily ever after. Wedding planning can definitely be a draining experience, but look for the joy and make the absolute most of it.”
Lynnea & David
During the summer of 2019, Lynnea was working in Victoria for the Pacific Football Club while David was playing for the Vancouver Whitecaps. One day, Lynnea and David attended the same event in Nanaimo and took notice of each other, however, nothing ever came to fruition until months later when David was loaned to Pacific. “I might have had a little crush. I tried to involve him in whatever was being filmed at training and made sure I was always in the tunnel on game days when the team was walking through, hoping he would say hi to me, which he always did. Most notably, I set up an interview with him which included a two hour sightseeing tour,” Lynnea shares. While Lynnea hoped to spend more time with David after the unforgettable tour, she did not want to cross professional boundaries with the Canadian soccer player. Then on the last game of the season, Lynnea met David’s father. “David’s dad told me he had watched our interview and he thought I should date his son. I didn’t disagree, but hopefully, I played it pretty cool,” jokes Lynnea. The evening came to an end and David was headed off to play for his new team in Miami, Florida. Throughout the next few months, Lynnea and David shared interactions on social media yet remained platonic. That was until July of 2020 when David asked for Lynnea’s email. “I sent him my email and for the next half hour I wondered why he could possibly need it. Finally, I got the notification. It was a letter he had written months before, saying he never stopped thinking about me and had been trying to suppress his feelings, but it wasn't working,” says the bride. Fast forward two years and a mere two days after Christmas, David proposed at Black Sand Beach along the Road to Hana in Maui, Hawaii.
For their rooftop wedding in Calgary, the couple had a vision of something “timeless, joyful, and heartfelt.” As a wedding filmmaker and professional soccer player, the duo discussed hosting a winter wedding in British Columbia among destination “I do’s” during David’s off season, although once they saw the season schedule it became an obvious choice to tie the knot in Calgary. On the special day, Lynnea leaned into romance and whimsy for her bridal ensemble with a custom organic linen gown designed by Lily Kennedy featuring a deep V-neckline and voluminous sleeves. To complete her look, Lynnea styled with a tulle veil characterized by exquisite 3D organza flowers, a vine-inspired pearl headband, and braided Dolce Vita heels before slipping into a pair of classic white Puma sneakers.
The couple wed on the roof of the red brick Simmons Building in the East Village known for its sweeping views of the Bow River that begins within the Canadian Rocky Mountains and winds through the Alberta foothills on to the prairies. David’s pastor from home officiated the Christian ceremony which included a reading of Ecclesiastes 4: 9-12, the very same Bible verse that Lynnea engraved in David’s wedding band. “Our ceremony was full of special moments that I hope we remember vividly for our whole lives,” the bride reminisces. After sealing the deal with a kiss, the newly married couple snuck away with Brooklyn Caroline Photography to capture golden hour portraits around the lively urban atmosphere. “Before we went back to join the party, David asked if we could spend a couple minutes sitting on a picnic bench, just the two of us. We soaked in the beautiful view of the river and reflected on the day together. I really appreciated that time as it gave us a quick reset before heading back onto the dance floor,” Lynnea explains. At the reception, Lynnea and David selected “Lifetime” by Justin Beiber for their first dance as husband and wife. Lynnea joined her father on the dance floor as Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” played. David and his mother chose Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” to which Lynnea surprised her mother by pulling her on the dance floor to join them half way through the song.
ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES
“It’s your special day, it can be whatever you want it to be! Plan and prepare as best as you can and then on the day just relax and enjoy. Although you have your whole life ahead of you, make sure you stick close to your new husband/ wife. It’s easy to get pulled in different directions but this is a day you’ll want to spend together!”

Hayley & John
Similar to most modern love stories in the 21st century, Hayley and John found romance on the dating app, Tinder, after swiping right. When the Canadian from Ontario and Irishman from Cork met in real life, there was no denying that they shared an interest in one another. Four years later, John proposed on a Sunday afternoon in the couple’s small town situated on the Sunshine Coast. With years of experience planning events, Hayley wasted little time to begin the wedding planning process. “I loved every aspect of the process, especially design. It was incredible having the help of Blackcomb Creative and Bespoke Decor. It was a 16-month project and watching all of our ideas finally come to life was an amazing feeling. At the end of the day, I really just wanted our family and friends to have the best experience possible as most of them were flying in from Ontario, Asia, Australia and Europe,” shares the bride. Hayley and John said “I do” surrounded by 130 guests at North Arm Farm. For the special day, the couple planned an English garden party with a touch of wild whimsy. To set the tone of their celebration, Hayley worked with Debbie Wong Design to create a soft and refined invitation suite, complete with calligraphed initials within a lush floral wreath. Handmade paper, stamps, and raw edge silk ribbon further elevated the fine stationery.
The couple painted their nuptials in a colour palette of cream, white, and soft blues, so naturally it made sense for Hayley’s bridesmaids to sport an enchanting array of silhouettes featuring delicate florals in beautiful blues from V. Chapman. The bride, herself, donned a silk crepe Monique Lhuillier gown with draped off-the-shoulder sleeves and a mesmerising slit at the front. At the ceremony, an ultrafeminine aesthetic continued where a meadow of organic arrangements lined the aisle and a simple arch wrapped in colourful florals stood amongst the rolling countryside of Pemberton. After stealing a mid-recessional kiss as newlyweds, custom cocktails garnished with lavender were served under an open-air sailcloth tent. Guests noshed on fresh oysters, lemon sorbet, and New York steak before indulging in traditional wedding cake. Who said you need fondant to make a statement? The couple’s three-tiered confection featured layers upon layers of buttercream filling leaving the cake completely naked dripping with lemon curd and dotted with raspberries and blooms.

ADVICE TO FUTURE COUPLES
“Be present. Enjoy every aspect of the day and evening as it comes. It’s going to be the best day of your lives!”
WHERE LUXURY MEETS THE COUNTRYSIDE
Nestled in Spruce Grove, on 65 acres of serene countryside, mature trees line a winding lane that leads to meadows that will simply take your breath away. Upon stepping foot onto the property, you will find a whimsical fountain framed by white polished limestone walls and a sophisticated atmosphere designed for your special day. Intentionally named after the venue’s entrance, Sparrow Lane, is a pristine estate immersed in historical French romance. Inspired by the elements of old world charm seen in fairytales, wedding planner and designer Engaged By Darcie, fashioned a real life happily ever after with Lindsay Nickel Photography and a phenomenal team of creatives.
ONCE IN A LIFETIME KIND OF LOVE
Following in the tradition of folklore tales, the bride evoked a sense of enchantment in a delicate lace sweetheart ball gown designed by Martina Liana. The contoured bustline, intricate boning, fashion-forward puff sleeves, and glamorous wrap detail highlight the design and shape of the bodice while the floral lace motifs offer an ultra-feminine appeal by cascading down the tulle skirt. An elegantly modern fireplace constitutes as the focal point indoors, overflowing with soft blush and creamy ivory coloured roses. The entire installation from Calyx Floral Design feels as though it occurred organically from the ground to create a blooming centrepiece for the vow exchange.
MODERN ROMANCE
The dual purpose ceremony and reception space was effortlessly transformed into an intimate dinner party where stunning chandeliers hang from the ceiling and natural light illuminates through the large arched windows. A lush floral runner was stretched across the crisp white table linens, complete with a single rose beneath glass dome table numbers synonymous with the classic love story, Beauty and the Beast. Each place was set with gold chargers, stoneware dinner plates, white napkins, and a printed menu accented with a soft pink ribbon and gold flatware.
TIME TO POP THE BUBBLY
As the evening grew later, the bride changed into a simple yet striking look featuring a low back with dramatic draping and fabric covered buttons. A pearl-studded cathedral cape topped her clean silhouette to further turn heads. The newlyweds then celebrated with a tower of teetering coupe glasses filled to the brim with bubbles before cutting into an all-white fondant wedding cake on the covered patio located just outside the French doors of the reception area.

Love in the Fast Lane
Situated on the waterfront at the bottom of Lonsdale Avenue in North Vancouver where unobstructed views of the vibrant city’s skyline can be seen to the south and soaring North Shore Mountains to the north, the historic Shipyards District offers a spectacular setting for lovers who seek rich heritage bursting with life. Drawing inspiration from the always chic black and white aesthetic, the team at The Wednesday Wedding Co. created a fresh take on an old classic with the help of Kaitlyn Mari Photography.
Romantically Inclined
With 3,600 square feet of open concept blank space and heritage inspired architectural details, The Wallace pays homage to its unique location in Canada’s West Coast harbour. An abundance of natural light draws your eyes exactly where they should go without the harshness of artificial lighting. Modern romance flaunts itself through moody candlelight and a floating floral installation from Lizi + Fern Floral Design consisting of stark white blooms against the black backdrop. The bride says “I do” in a dramatic silhouette framed by voluminous puff sleeves and an off-the-shoulder neckline before slipping into her second look, a stunning crushed satin gown with playful cut outs from Bisou Bridal.
A Cakey Kiss
At the open-air reception some elements of the celebration look almost too good to eat, namely a bold design by Bjornbar Bakery where buttercream brush strokes emulate an abstract painting. After dinner featuring the flavours of the season, guests gather as the chilled champagne is served into an old-fashioned glass on top of a tower, allowing it to overflow and trickle into the tiers below.

A Touch of Lavender
Rustic Elegance
Perhaps it’s appropriate that Black Barn is a historical labour of love. After all, it is authentic love that brings couples to the original homestead established in 1902. Situated near the banks of Pipestone Creek, surrounded by 454 acres of Alberta farmland, Black Barn has evolved into a rustic chic atmosphere coupled with vintage elegance. With an open air patio and views of the southern vista, Sugar Plum Couture Events focused on an overtly feminine aesthetic to capture the essence of a lighthearted, youthful romance. The bride and groom wed beneath expansive open-beam ceilings and four antique-inspired chandeliers where lush floral arrangements touted their free flowing beauty.
The Love Boat
A backdrop of tree-lined paths as you row across calm water provides a serene setting for an intimate moment alone. The quintessential white row boat synonymous with Nicholas Sparks’, The Notebook, sends us back in time to an achingly tender story about the enduring power of love. With Katelyn Anne Photography present to snap portraits, soak in the precious feeling with your newly minted spouse and the raw emotions that follow before the excitement of the reception.
The couple returned to shore and entered the 3,800 square feet of indoor space which was effortlessly transformed into a charming yet modern dinner party. Lovely, sweet smelling flowers, soft hues of lavender and pale blue graced the colour scheme. Guests found their seats in the form of delightfully presented love notes. Simple centrepieces showcasing just a few blooms and berries alongside ice-cream toned tapered candlesticks lined the family-style tables. An ultra-tall cake designed by Wild Rose Cakes created a stunning statement while keeping the décor subtle.
At the end of the evening, the newlyweds said a final farewell before driving away in a vintage Jaguar convertible. The bride’s bespoke diamond ring by Sonja Deklerk against her apple blossom floral dress with voluminous sheer sleeves, a lace up corset bodice, and fluid tiered skirt established a harmonious sense of style reminiscent of the romantic, Victorianera. The modern tale of true love comes alive through the art of celebration narrated by the creatives who sought to provide a soulful, whimsy experience.

Set SaiL
With a nod to its English heritage, the cosmopolitan city of Victoria is rich in architectural design and time-honoured traditions like afternoon tea. Though the capital is filled with stately museums and hotels, the inner harbour is just a stone’s throw from the charming downtown neighbourhoods. Escape the ordinary on a private yacht charter while traversing through picturesque waters. Inspired by the allure of old money romance, Photography By Taiya tells the story of two lovers sailing across the sea following an intimate afternoon on higher ground.
love afloat
Modern times call for contemporary style, and the bride delivered in an ivory satin slip dress from Park Fifth & Co. An elegantly draped cowl neckline completes the simplicity of its figure-skimming silhouette allowing for effortless movement and comfort. To further elevate her minimalist ensemble, the bride accessorized with tulle gloves and chunky braided heels nodding to a vintage era while the groom embraced his own individual style sporting oval sunglasses and a masculine bun. Of course, champagne was served as the setting sunlight danced across the misty coastline before their escapade came to a close.

From the dazzling high ceilings to the unique pairing of two mezzanines, the atmosphere is one of Vancouver’s best-kept secrets. As for the bride’s style, she kept it effortlessly clean and modern in a figure-hugging midi silhouette with pearl adorned straps, billowing arm bands, and fabric covered buttons. Her accessories were feminine and masculine all at once as she sported an oversized blazer and satin mules.

While we are used to seeing muted tones from the last several seasons, it’s quite the treat to see a candy-coloured palette just in time for spring. A runner of garden-inspired floral arrangements by Celsia Floral and taper candlesticks shifting from dark mauve to pale pink to seafoam to navy lined the centre of each table. For dinner, everyone dined on a mouthwatering menu where an unofficial rainbow was front of mind, even the cocktails and cake from Bee Bop Sweet Shop were intentionally upbeat.

to have & to hold
Inspired to tell the story of love without limits, planner Heather Johnston of Orange Trunk and photographer Tess Lucas created an editorial to highlight the celebration of two becoming one in marriage. As the cold of winter melts away, spring brings a new beginning that feels fresh and renewed allowing for nuptials to take place in a season with a sense of awakening in the air. The overall aesthetic of the design was romantic modernity with an organic approach played out amongst the hum of downtown Calgary. To achieve this mood a team of local creatives used a dusty blue and tangerine colour palette starting with an invitation suite from Lovesky Designs in shades of soft peach and swirling calligraphy.
urban oasis
Enamoured with the desire to bring the outdoors in, The Brownstone speaks to the contrast of a Chicago courtyard and an elegant industrial vibe flooded with natural light. As a nod to the modern oasis, Creative Edge Flowers formed a subtle backdrop of greenery climbing on the walls making guests feel as if they had wandered into a ceremonial garden.
swept up
From the planning of the ceremony to the table setting, vintage styling can be seen throughout the inspiration such as embossed goblets, gold flatware, and satin upholstered armchairs. Following the intimate dinner situated on a metal framed dessert cart, a watercolour buttercream cake with effortless texture embraces the delicacy of fine art details.
