In life, we celebrate the "in between" moments and when it comes to photography, those that cherish the connection captured over "technicality" tend to be part of our tribe. We're in it for the couples that choose off beat and whimsical over traditional and mainstream. We're in it for all of those adventurous brides & grooms out there that aren't afraid to be their authentic and silly selves. Most of all we're in it for the magic of love and celebrating love and chances are if you're reading this, we're in it for you!

behind the scenes

e d i t o r’s l et t er

Hello Darling! I have a confession - the RMB team is head-over-heels in love with New Mexico. Their state phrase, “The Land of Enchantment” is totally true! Last year when we were creating the first New Mexico edition we started to uncover how amazing of a state it was, and with this second, we are simply smitten. With the guiding force of our resident New Mexican local and Sales Director, Hilary, we got down to the roots of New Mexico and unearthed some amazing finds, locations and inspiration. It is through her sincere love and respect of this beautiful state that we are able to connect on such a deep level with the culture, local cuisine and history of New Mexico, and why this magazine is as amazing as it is! Throughout the magazine you’ll find a common thread of staying rooted and true to what New Mexico is and stands for. The love stories selected focus on ceremonies that are rich in culture and authenticity through locations and the natural landscape. We traveled down to Las Cruces to the Valley of Fires for a gown guide both soul-stirring and visually striking against the matte black lava rock. Our inspiration told tales of backyard elopements, farm-to-table soirées and even a grand ranch wedding! Working alongside so many talented creatives was truly a highlight for RMB. Above all, it is because of the local talent here in New Mexico that we are able to create and dream up so much pretty for our readers! We at RMB are so honored and excited to help be a part of your wedding day planning. From inspiration to finding your perfect vendors through our Gem Collective, and all the Instagram stories of the team along the way, we love that we can help be a part of your New Mexico love story!

S TO RY “We met in London in 2014 and eloped 10 months later. Despite getting officially married without friends and family, we always knew we would have a traditional wedding to celebrate in the future. Just over two years later in 2017, we decided to celebrate in New Mexico on a gorgeous October day and invited guests to travel to see the International Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque earlier in the week. Blessed with truly wonderful weather all week, nearly 50 Londoners and guests from around the country joined us at the Balloon Fiesta. In Santa Fe for the wedding, guests were treated to a mariachi parade around the historic city Plaza. On La Terraza patio, at La Fonda on the Plaza, guests experienced a classic New Mexico watercolor sunset during cocktail hour while drinking margaritas and gin and tonics - a nod to both of our home cities. A bright red British Royal Mail postbox, straight from the UK, served as the card basket. Dinner featured traditional New Mexican cuisine of green chile enchiladas and carne adovada tamales. Speeches, laughter and dancing into the night followed on what was a perfect evening for us and all our loved ones. - Tatianna & Duncan, wedding October 13th Alicia Lucia Photography

from the bride “It’s hard to pick a favorite part of our engagement session because Sarah made it so relaxed and easy! It felt like we were just exploring a cool place with our friends, which was great because we’re not picture people. But the time of year and day created the most sublime colors and atmosphere which Sarah perfectly captured. There were a couple of moments during the session when we just stopped and were in awe of everything around us. It was a pretty special experience for an engagement session. Above all, Matthew and I both appreciate where we live for so many reasons. We think it’s important to love and celebrate your place, no matter where it is. That’s why we couldn’t think of a more perfect place for our wedding than our backyard with some local beer and food surrounded by family and friends.”

Allison + Brian santa fe

tony gambino photography

Six months before Allie met Brian, he matched with Allie’s sister on a dating app. They exchanged numbers, but, as busy life goes, they never got together. Shortly after, Allie’s sister swiped right on her now husband. Happily taken but still on a hunt for Allie, she messaged Brian informing him that she had met a guy, but has a sister that she thinks is totally his type. That day Allie received a text from a strange number she didn’t recognize. A week later she was sitting across from Brian at a local cafe! The two quickly became inseparable and fell in love. In Fall of 2016, Allie, Brian and their darling pup, Rhodes, packed up and left the city to explore Lake Minnewaska, one of their favorite getaways Upstate. Upon their arrival the couple found the most perfect spot on the lake for a family picture. After setting up the tripod and camera, Brian ran back to join Allie and Rhodes. Before the trip of the shutter, Brian told Allie to check out whatever was on Rhodes. Fidgeting with his collar she came across a new dog tag that read, “Will you marry my dad?” Completely shocked, she stood up to find Brian on one knee. Of course, she said, “Yes!” They planned a breathtaking destination wedding in Santa Fe for October 21st.

let’s be adventurous, darling

Family ties brought Allie and Brian to Santa Fe, but it wasn’t long before they too fell in love with the capital’s historic architecture, unique culture and desert mountain landscapes. Coming from their home in New York, the couple wanted to embark on an adventure with their loved ones to celebrate their new chapter as husband and wife.

& to hold

As a wedding favor, each of Allie and Brian’s guests were gifted a handcrafted, Texas mesquite wood pen to write marriage advice on the inside of their place cards and, of course, to take home. Instead of having family and friends sign a traditional guest book, the newlyweds instructed people to take selfies while entering cocktail hour and place them in the place cards along with their personal advice. Allie and Brian saved each card from their day and put them in an album to treasure for years to come!

Shelly + Cody albuquerque

loryn x chris photography

Shelly and Cody have their mothers to thank for their coming together as they are best friends. The two met at a family redneck themed barbeque on the Fourth of July. However, Cody fell for Shelly one night when she left her jacket over at his house, and he answered the door to return it to her. Their mothers tried playing matchmaker, but Shelly was hesitant. Cody left to be in the military for four years. It wasn’t until his homecoming that Shelly realized her feelings had changed for him. Their relationship grew quickly and the couple fell in love. Three years later, Cody proposed in front of their favorite Starbucks, the coffee shop they shared their first awkward date and kiss. Moved by Cody’s thoughtfulness, Shelly said, ”Yes!” The two planned an intimate and authentic celebration in Albuquerque for January 6th.

Shayley+ Eric l a s c ru c e s

ashlee kay photography

Shayley and Eric met through mutual friends who knew the two would be a perfect match. Though both Shayley and Eric were not looking for a relationship, they kept finding excuses to spend time with each other. As time passed, their friendship grew into something special, and they both realized it was meant to be. A few years later, before Shayley’s 22nd birthday, Eric decided to post pictures of the two, once a day, with captions describing how God had worked in their relationship and why their love was fate. On the 7th day of posts, Eric planned for the couple to go to Shayley’s favorite spot, Elephant Butte Lake, to pose for a current photo. The location held a special place in both of their hearts as that was also the location where Eric asked Shayley to be his girlfriend over four years ago. Once they arrived and started to pose for the photo, Eric got down on one knee and asked Shayley to spend forever with him. The two celebrated that night with a surprise dinner for their families at Shayley’s grandparent’s lake house and decided on a stunning spring wedding in Las Cruces on May 5th.

Their vintage wedding was filled with family heirlooms and thoughtful details that Shayley always dreamed of incorporating.

the best day “Eric and I have been together for five years now, so I feel like we have made so many memories together already. But our wedding day is probably the one thing we both are so incredibly thankful for. The friends and family that came together and the evening as a whole was perfect. I know we will cherish that day for the rest of our lives.

Alexandra + Ryne albuquerque

brandon harwell photography

In 2012 Alexandra met Ryne on one of her first job interviews in Los Angeles. At the time Ryne was working for a local newspaper, and he sure took notice when Alexandra walked in for an interview. As Alexandra’s interview came to a close, Ryne slipped into the boss’ office, sat down in the chair across from her and introduced himself. Alexandra was immediately charmed by his wit and Chicago accent. Shortly after, Ryne asked Alexandra out on a date to Barney’s Beanery, the best dive, sports bar on Santa Monica’s 3rd St. promenade. A few rounds of beers led them to the local pier where they walked side-by-side until three in the morning. Their chemistry was undeniable and they fell in love quickly. After four years of adventures and even long distance, Ryne knew he had to make Alexandra his wife. On a summer night in June, Ryne made dinner reservations at a restaurant over looking the ocean in Laguna Beach. After sunset, Ryne led Alexandra down to the most beautiful alcove. Just as Alexandra laid down their blanket to settle in, Ryne got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Completely elated, she said, “Yes!” The newly engaged planned a destination autumn wedding for September 3rd.

new mexico true Alexandra always knew she wanted to be married in New Mexico. Not only is it the most special place, but it’s where her family and home is. Ryne basically married into that decision! They found inspiration from surrounding desert landscapes, their favorite musicians and their family heritages.

foraged floral “For my wedding day blooms I envisioned an authentic, Southwestern design. I hoped to incorporate a rich, natural color palette of sage, rust and dark red. Sarah of Viva Flora completely read my mind! When she walked in with the finished arrangements, I was blown away. She even stopped along the highway, on her way to the church, to forage a cactus. It’s now planted in our home.”

let’s rock and roll

Alexandra and Ryne hired an organist to play their favorite rock and roll songs during their ceremony. At first the pair was hesitant to make the suggestion. However, Micahel the organist was inspired by the genre and fell into the part effortlessly. Before the ceremony began, Alexandra’s bridesmaids entered and closed the doors behind them. Just as “Thank You” by Led Zeppelin echoed throughout the church, the doors reopened and there stood the bride ready to meet her groom at the front of the altar.

a sweet escape The newlyweds wanted to share both their family heritages with their guests on their wedding day. During the reception they performed a Polish bread and salt ceremony to honor Ryne’s Polish family. For dessert Alexandra embraced her family’s French roots and served a traditional French cake. Both the bread as well as the croquembouche was handmade by the local baker, Laura at Le Chantilly Fine Pastries & Wedding Cake Designers. Guests raved over the non-traditional, sweet end to the night.

advice for rocky mountain couples “Your guests will not remember the details, but the experience and how they felt.”

love

from the bride “What makes me a Rocky Mountain bride is the love I have for New Mexico. Living in Albuquerque means watercolor sunsets, hot air balloons, and beautiful landscapes. Our engagement session is one neither of us will forget. It was at sunrise, at the crest of the Sandia Mountains, in January - it was cold. Between every few snaps we had to cuddle together under blankets to keep warm, and by the end of the session we were both numb from the freezing temperature and wind chill. But, what I loved most about our session is that the shots weren’t staged, we were cold and our photographer, Ashley, kept telling us to snuggle to keep warm. Dominic and I were shivering and had to continuously keep each other smiling and laughing! We look forward to including New Mexico’s rich traditions into our wedding.”

a new mexican rehearsal dinner celebraing mallory and zach

“Zach and I both grew up in Albuquerque but never appreciated the beauty of our home state until we moved away after high school. 10 years later we moved back to New Mexico and had the opportunity of planning our dream wedding in the Land of Enchantment. There were a lot of unknowns at the beginning of wedding planning but we knew one thing...we wanted to show off our beautiful state! We spent months looking for the perfect piece of land and after much searching we found the perfect spot. We spent the whole summer leveling the land, spreading out 13 tons of crushed rock over the designated space and ultimately turned a 1.5 acre piece of property into our dream rehearsal dinner spot. We named the venue “Doce Años”, which is Spanish for 12 years, representing how long we had been together before our wedding. We had absolutely amazing vendors who made our exact vision come to life! It was a night we will never forget.”
